My brother got that kind of virus the other day. Nothing could run. Task manager would open, but would close 2 seconds after so I had my brother hold Ctrl+alt+delete while I ended the process and brought in malwarebytes on a flash drive...
Each specializes in a particular area of AV, but they all detect I wide array of viruses from each category. Malwarebytes seems to be the most effecient when it comes to detecting viruses, but there are some it hasn't picked up.
Superantispyware is also pretty decent but godawful slow.
I have AVG free, and it works well. But it wont let me paly mapelstory for some reason. It has saved me from like, ten trojans and countles other spyware.

I had a similar problem. I was smoking crystal meth all night and suddenly my computer starting doing some weird stuff.
I got hit with this yesterday as well, after downloading the multiplayer server files. I am sure it was related to the site being hacked.
It installs Security Tool, a program that will generate many false virus warnings and urge you to enter your credit card info. It will prevent you from running any program or task of any kind.
Here is how you fight back:
1. To run a program, you can rename its .exe file.
2. If you have another login account on your comp, that can be used to load windows without security tool. You can then manage accounts to give yourself administrative priveledges to fix.(what I did)
If not, safe mode booting will work as well.
3. In your allusers/appdata/local *or* roaming you will find the icon of security tool, it won't let you delete it unless you --> rename the file, and reboot then delete away. Make sure you can view hidden folders and files or you will not be able to get to the containing folder.
4. Run Malware bytes after to clean registry entries and root out the backdoor trojan that loaded it.

On the subject of how I got it, I have both Malware and AVG running and up to date.
I did only 2 things after getting home from work that day:
1. checked the Server List page on this site, a popup box greeted me saying "sorry, you lose, Game Over: with an OK button. I started taskmanager and killed my firefox right away, without touching anything else.
2. Downloaded both multiplayer server files following that, figuring I would start my own server. Bam! Security tool a few minutes later.
@OP: Sounds like you're a Windows user, so here's a very useful suggestion: Microsoft Security Essentials. Completely free to Windows users, works with 2000 and up, small memory footprint, has just the features you need and nothing extra (unlike McAfee and Avast, which have who-knows-what bundled), real-time protection, automatic daily virus definition updates, simple interface, total shell integration, and lets you choose where to scan: quick scan (Windows directory, My Documents, and a few other vital areas), full scan (EVERYTHING on every hard drive and removable drive on your system), and custom (you tell it what drives/directories to scan). The real-time protection nails almost any virus trying to download or install itself.
About the only problem I've found with it is .iso disk iamge files, which I've only had to deal with once when I was downloading Visual Studio for my C++ class. Security Essentials seems to define each "disk sector" of an .iso as a seperate file, so if you're scanning a physical drive that has one of these files, be prepared to wait a looooooong time. The "items scanned" readout got up to 1,000,000 "files" before I told it to stop, then ran a custom scan of everything on C drive except the Desktop. But a typical quick scan takes only about ten minutes or so, and runs in the background. I seriously don't recommend playing Minecraft while doing a system scan, but the program itself won't complain.
What's your opinion on AVG Pro 9. Eventually something says that your license would expire.
Microsoft actually did a good job on software for once in their entire history, Security Essentials is pretty good. Downside: It's windows, so the virus makers will probably thwart it easily after they adapt their scripts and ****

If a creeper walked in to my house, I'd either be cowering in a corner or unzipping my trousers.
I have had a similar expierience just yesterday. I was forced to download "Security Tool" which also posed as an anti virus, said I had a billion viruses and told me to purchase it. It would not let me do anything, saying everything on my computer had a "virus", even Minecraft. I couldnt uninstall it, so I went online for help, and got it done in a jiffy :biggrin.gif:
