For quite a while now my friends have been trying to convince me to buy minecraft. However, im just not that convinced i should spend my money on it. I mean, its a good game and all, just i hardly ever spend money on anything. So im asking you:
AW man, too bad nobody is giving good answers (sorry guys).
Minecraft is cool because it's all about emergent gameplay. You make the game into whatever you want it to be. The basic part of the game is digging mines to harvest materials so you can make swords, armor, boats, doors, traps, stairs, bows, axes, shovels, signposts, walls, and so forth. Right now Alpha is single player only, but multiplayer is being worked on. Multiplayer is what really excites me, because I want to team up with my friends and build a fortress somewhere on a hill with a lot of lava or something, and then we can declare war on others and fight them, defend our fortress from random mobs, other players who are looking to make an easy buck by breaking in and plundering our treasure chests, and so forth.
Take the peaceful rout by mining really deep into the earth and selling the valuable ore you find to others for supplies! Or build a tavern and serve food and drink in exchange for gold, and then hire (real player) mercenaries to protect your tavern from thieves! Furthermore, you can go to the suggestion forum and suggest things you want to see in the game, since it's in alpha, if you have a really good idea, you could see it end up in the game.
The possibilities are really endless! Like, if I get tired of having a big fortress, I might go out and try to break into other people's mines, disarm their traps, fight their guards or whatver, and steal their stuff-- or if someone declares war on me, I might just find a way to flood their caves and force their surrender, at which point I would invite them to join my team and fight with me to dominate the map under my supreme rule!!
But would I really be able to trust them? Find all this stuff out and more by BUYING the alpha while it's cheaper, and then playing survival multiplayer as soon as it comes out with your friends. It's awesome.
And also, I'm paying for college, I don't have much money, I think it is a good game to buy, and I bought it.
Helpful tip: if you do buy it, be sure to check out some guides, or ask your friends how to do things, there's no tutoraial in teh game right now.
OH YEAH, it also runs on ANY COMPUTER, and you can play IN THE BROWSER if you want to. But you don't have to.

You are totally thinking about this signature right now. Read a book.
Even though the game is at Alpha, it is a lot of fun, and there are a lot of things to do in many different ways. Maps are also generated differently each time you start a new map, and they keep dragging on and on until you run out of hard drive memory. The game plays in 3D using FPS controls.
In the game mode survival, you are basically placed in a randomly generated world complete with beaches, tall mountains, high cliffsides, and creepy caves.
To see this go here:
There is a night/day cycle, and at night you must defend yourself against monsters, and you can do this in many different ways, an obvious one being fortifying yourself. You can also encounter these monsters in caves, and believe me, they are absolutely terrifying if they catch you off guard despite the blocky style of the game. You also mine for resources ( ) to make better tools and items which can use to upgrade your house, or whatever else you want to do, like build a roller coaster out of minetracks. You can "craft" a workbench ( ) where you can place your resources in a certain pattern, which will make certain items such as torches which will help you see better in the dark, or armor to increase your HP. There are a ton of things you can craft, all with their own properties, and there are definitely going to be more "crafting recipes" to come later in the future. A fun thing to craft is TNT, which you can use to blow enemies up or mine faster. Or blow yourself up, whatever you find enjoyable.
Eventually, Survival Multiplayer will be released allowing you to go about these events with a friend, or against an enemy. Its all up to you.
An Adventure Mode will also be released some time, which restricts your ability to destroy any block for resource, but instead you play through certain levels trying to complete an objective. Puzzles, Combat, Platforming, that sort of thing.
The price of the game will go up once it reaches beta and beyond. I was very curious about the game once I bought it, and it ended up being one of the funnest games I have played, maybe due to the sandbox nature of the game. Take my word for it, just buy it. You will get all future updates fore free including.
I'm just saying, I always thought Alpha was crap. I thought it'd be boring, then my best friend got it, went on about it, and in two days I got it.
It's freaking amazing. Just get it. And when multiplayer comes out, it'll get more expensive and infinitely better. Don't think about it, just get it. Worst case scenario, you play it for a bit, think it's okay, go on multiplayer a few times then stop playing. Onoes, you lost 10 euros. Best case scenario, you have an amazing new game. It's worth it.
Don't think about it, just get it.

The world prefers gilded fools over threadbare scholars
I think alpha is fun because with the way its constantly updated you can make a story for yourself. :3
For example, over 100 years ago we got red ore, which gave power to certain devices while emitting red particle flakes. The millions of flakes from the 7 segment displays went into the atmosphere and created a giant snowstorm, which the minecraftians had never seen before.
T'wasnt long untill all the mobs in the land were throwing snowballs at one another. Finally, the snow melted, and with that came bigger oceans, so minecraftians had to build boats to take them over the water so they could collect more supplies.
This led to the discovery of new life on the planet of minecraft; the cactus. Who knows what else could happen...we DO live in minecraft.
A lot of interesting reasons, but im still not convinced. What makes alpha so much better than creative? What can you do in alpha that just makes creative look like a spec of dirt compared to it?
Also: that picture of survival mode is really convincing :|
In Alpha, or the much better Survival mode, there is a night/day cycle, and you have to craft tools or other appliances by mining for resources. Then you can basically do whatever you want from there. I find it hard to explain what Minecraft is, but I'm very positive that you'll love the game, if you like indie games.
Also, I love the feeling of living in an endless world, with just you and the enviorment. Oh and the creepy monsters that attack you during night.
I can't believe that you need convincing... :sleep.gif:;
Anyway, just look at all the above reasons, watch tons of videos, pictures, EVERYTHING.
If you actually play it, you'll know how fun it is.
AND since you seem to have friends that play it, maybe you could let them have you test it yourself!
And if you need further convincing, look at this :

I was reluctant to buy it at first, because even the descriptions on the forums weren't that exciting. However, I blew some money on it because I had cash to spend. I fell in love with it. Minecraft premium is AMAZING.
Why should I buy Minecraft?
