Hello Minecraft forums! The unknown man has returned after a long incubation period!
Though this subject has probably come up UMPTEEN times before, I haven't seen it and I'm too lazy to look for it, as I'll bet most of you are. So, the question: Is there a possibility that the fully completed game will have:
A. Support for the Steam Overlay (Might be a given when a client comes out.)
B. Availability for purchase through Steam.
There's probably a One-Hit K.O. answer to this.

Give me a box and I'll think out side of it. Give me nothing and I won't think.

If Yes:
Just add it as a non steam game and it should work wonders
If No
Change the name of your browser of choice to Minecraft
Add your web browser as a non steam game
Execute it
and go fullscreen
Overlay should work fine
I recomend censored though because the steam overlay appears on windowed mode with it

OK, so obviously no purchase of Minecraft on Steam, but I don't see why he wouldn't do an executable, or why he would want to prevent us from just having the overlay.

I like these single word answers, they really show the communities willingness to explore all possibilities and options.
Seriously though, steam support would be awesome for many reasons. Cross game communication, good server browsing and vastly larger selling potential, I definitely think Notch should look into it when he's nearing completion of the game. Short sited people and teenagers might be against this, but thank god they aren't making the game because it would probably be terrible if they were.

This.
I honestly have no idea why people think adding steam as an option is such a bad idea.
You can't be sure that he doesn't want it on steam because it's not on it now. Even if he doesn't, his opinions aren't ours, and we deserve to discuss the potential benefits of this service.
Just because "not on steam" is there doesn't mean he does not want it on steam, it could easily mean that he has not considered adding it to steam and simply pointing out that it is not on it. Steam would be a good idea once he raises the price when it goes into beta, as steam has a massive community and indie games are always liked, and I'm sure plenty of people there would like it.
Also, people simply replying "No" Is a ******** reason to explain why, instead of that why can't we elaborate upon this and give a more solid reason instead of this see through reason that falls out of our hands?
It'd be excellent publicity if he ever considered it. It'd make the amount of people purchasing the game skyrocket, and Notch could become richer than Garry Newmann!
I think he might enjoy being a rich indie developer.

It would seem notch is against DRM
He said he would try again when the game is full
And even(!!!) easy hacking potential!!!!
no, steam can be hacked too easily....
This man knows what he's talking about.
Also, nobody has brought up the fact that steam probably charges for hosting and selling indie games.
I do like steam, but this game just wasn't meant for it.
