i skipped a few post, so sorry if someone posted this.
I'm ok with others using hacks, I just hate it when they use it for competitions against those who don't have them.(like spleef, building competition, ect)
Hacks just ruin the challenge of things, so people shouldn't be proud of things that took a long time to make w/ hax because it would have taken even longer w/o hax.

I see a Minecraft map as, basically, a world where you can build whatever you want, but where you're still limited by things like gravity, physics, and time. You can build a huge upside down tower coming out of a flying whale's rear fin, but you'll have to work to overcome the fact that you're suspended in the air and you're building downward instead of upward. That's what makes it fun for me. It's a building sandbox, but it still has some basic conventional rules. For me, if I'm just going along my scaffolding to build some cool structure, and someone zips by like they're on rocket boots, the feeling I get from the game is shattered.
Also, I tend to see a difference between the structures built with the aid of hacks and those without. With hacks, people are more keen to construct large, attention-grabbing things, and this can cause servers to look like a landscape with nothing but really big structures.
With hacks, the basic layout might be something like:
(That's four large buildings, all of which probably look very different from each other.)
WIthout, they look more like this:
(That's a lot of buildings, with a noticeable gradient in building style between them.)
The second model is more appealing to me, since it makes the world seem smoother than with the first.
I don't care if hacks are used for building. Like Chariot said, since I've started using hacks I've been more willing to make larger structures. The way I see it is:
Creative Mode -
An infinite sandbox. Should we be limited to taking a long time to walk across 512^3 maps if we choose to build near the edges of maps (like myself.) I think some sort of flying feature would fit nicely in Creative Mode. After all, it IS a sandbox game.
Survival Mode -
No hacks. It would be far too easy to play with them. There's no point.
Hacks would create anarchy in survival mode, ultimately, and I don't think that's we what we need right now.
I don't give a darn about using hacks and not using them, because I can't even use them as is. That said, I do enjoy the sheer challenge of building in lieu of construction tools. A true mason.

I don't mind nor care about hacks currently. However, if and when they cross into Survival Mode, that's a whole other problem. That is where I draw the line for hacks.
I'm sorry for posting another thing that is going to be ignored but really think about it! Does it really matter if someone is zooming by while your scaffolding to get the last little bits, you think that ruins the game and you complain about it, yet you should be feeling proud because your not using hacks. Here is another thing, if your so 'good' for not using hacks the way I see it your not, your always the one to start the Hacks Argument when someone builds a giant thing with hacks, they posted it and they were proud and I don't care if you get a slightly better feeling of achievement just because you had to get a little scaffolding.
Before you go on about contradicting my point on non-hackers always starts the Hacks Argument because of Dysgalt, he was just posting his opinion on hacks of which probably spawned from seeing a hacks argument.

Talent didn't go anywhere, it just gets lost in all the noise. You have to find it.
Translated, people who use hacks are no more or less using "easymode", they simply must ascribe to a higher degree of quality to prove their investment in hacks was worthwhile.
A regular user making a 3x3 cube on the ground is not very impressive.
A hacked user making a 5x5 sphere suspended in midair is not very impressive.
A regular user making a 20x50x20 stadium complex is impressive.
A hacked user making a 50x120x100 stadium, complete with three playing fields, seats with fans, and players on the fields in the center, is impressive.
The choice of the server operator is whether to seek smaller constructions to save on server resources, or to seek "epic" constructions and upgrade or expand their server resources apace.
Hacks in survival would just be plain unfair, especially when multiplayer free-for-all survival comes.
But in creative mode, I see no problem with them. All they do is make building faster, they don't make it easier to come up with an impressive idea or design. My opinion is that if you don't like hacks in creative, just don't use them.
@Duh just because we have hacks doesn't mean we have to do any better it just makes going about building things easier, just because we have hacks doesn't mean we have to make this amazing 3 field stadium because as I am sure you noticed that people with hacks still need to place blocks at the same speed(The only exception is auto clicker but I don't use that).

You never have to do anything. However, you do have to do better than normal in order for it to be impressive, was my point. I attack the issue from this angle because besides the "hacks made griefers grief more" argument, the quality/difficulty of creations is the main argument against hacks, IE, "Hacks make building too easy, they ruin the game".
I think this argument goes deeper than just whether or not hacks are acceptable. It's a matter of personal philosophy when it comes to games. Many people get more enjoyment modifying a game to make it what they want it to be. Then there are those who prefer to play games the way they were intended to be played. I'm in this second group, and I see Minecraft's player physics as an important gameplay mechanic rather than a limitation to creativity.
Hacks can be usefull for ops. The speed and flying particularly, as you can watch greifers from above, or easily chase them down.
So +ophax, but otherwise...
DIE HAXS, DIE!
Just my opinion. :smile.gif:

In Survival: I'd never consider it.
If someone made an epic tower with hacks, I'd clap just as loudly as I would if they had made them without hacks. It's still an epic tower.
However, hacks in survival? Hell no.
