And since it seems we're going into more detailed things, what about survival when it goes multiplayer? do you plan to use hacks then too and completely destroy the purpose of that too?
Not often. Maybe occasionally with close friends who are okay with it, for purely recreational purposes.
By the way, video games? They're usually about recreation.
gigaman, everyone can tell that that is a strawman/mockery.
Mother of ****, you can tell all that from the two words the guy's said?
Strawman – A straw man is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. (Wikipedia)
It doesn’t really have to be long, but I think he’s stretching the definition a bit.

I would prefer the game not to have hacks, but I use them because everyone else does, and would rather not be at a disadvantage. My ideal solution would be hacks enabled or disabled on a per-server basis, like what Notch is working on.

I believe he's referring to the TVTropes Definition of Strawman, the Strawman Political, a caricature of the opposing viewpoint portrayed in a purposely stupid way, in a very weak attempt to discredit the opposing argument.
To quote the site directly,
If someone writes a story about Bob the Foolish Liberal (or Bob the Foolish Conservative or whatever) doing nothing but foolish things in a way intended to make Liberalism/Conservatism look bad without really representing it honestly, it's a strawman.

Don't strain that fancy English, there, pal. :tongue.gif:
I think hacks should be available, but Notch should figure out a way to make noclipping impossible. If the client hack had everything except for noclip, I'd be able to go to bed without having to shut off my server in fear that people would noclip out of spawn jails. When people are flying around, i can watch them because I can fly too. The only thing that ever bugged me was noclip.
Have I made myself clear?
Also, flying is REALLY helpful for server administration because it makes it really easy to watch for griefers.
I don't even see why noclip is necessary for anything except for griefing. It doesn't help with anything except for cheating. WoM should have really thought this out before they created the hacks.

It has a few applications, but this is one of very few instances where I say the potential for griefing outweighs the small amount of good it could do.

Unless you get rid of XBox live/Minecraft.
I... don't see what that has to do with the debate.

Also Koopa_King ignores the fact that the specific restore/map lock "scripts" are not available to the public at this time.

Ecrider has done it already.

So, yeah. It still doesn't make sense.

Here is how useful each hack is to griefers, imho: noclip > speed > flight > minimap/compass
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
