You need 3 players really because one of the players are bound to cheat aha. This is the internet!
Oh well, come Lua, I'm sure someone will be able to script something for this. I hope. XD
It's pretty easy to tell when someone's cheating, either they're peeking around the side, or you can clearly see them atop the pillar they make, trying to peek.
It'd be possible to make it cheat proof, put admin blocks all around it creating just room for the board and the players to move around, that means there'd be no way for them to sneak around without clearly being seen by the other player because they'd have to go through the board :biggrin.gif:
The ships are placed just as you would in regular Battleship. 5 ships, with lengths 5 4 3 3 2
When they're hit, you place a red block on top of the hit coordinate, when you miss, you place a white block on that coordinate.
It's not that hard, people.
At the moment, the only server that has Battleship on it is down. I could jump on something like the Reddit Public and build it there, if everyone wants.
No, JTE isn't confused or anything. JTE just thinks a lot of the "sports" would be much better off with server scripting. Particularly, instead of constantly breaking glass, placing a block, and then building glass over it again, one would need only to break the glass and the rest would be performed, even checking if it's a hit or a miss...
Similarly, it's silly to play "soccer" (football) by having to constantly go back and forth between building and breaking the same block again and again. And annoying to have to rebuild the arena manually for Spleef. And keep track of how much monopoly money you have. These minigames, despite not being a complete game mode of their own, and being playable without it, need programming.

But part of the simple joy of games like Battleship is having it NOT be automated.
It'd be cool if some redstone engineer made all the colors have buttons, so when you pressed one on the X and Y coordenates (in the battleship game) it would have some piston thing that lowers a block on the other side. Would be INSANE to do though...
Edit: The boats could be made of Adminium to prevent cheating.
Dreamt up by a user named ehgo some weeks ago. The only thing I take credit for is refining the design.
The gameplay is EXACTLY the same as regular Battleship, except you're calling out colors, not letters and numbers.
If I can remember right, the dimensions are 29 long, 14 wide, and 14 tall, for those that want to recreate it.
Great fun for when people get bored.
Thoughts?
What do you mean, "Needs programming"?
Legacy thinks that JTE Misunderstood, and believed it was a suggest, while it is entirely player based.
Former #minecraft channel operator.
Makes sense. And yes, it is entirely player based.
