Sorry to take up forum space but i didnt know where else to post
Ive made some maps and stuff but what would Java or Lua do?
How would that work?
Sorry i just didnt completly get it
Lua is a pretty simple scripting language that in theory will allow you to create your own game modes. Depending on the depth of implementation you might be able to pull off things like tools, weapons, npc's ect. We won't be able to know until it's in though. You can google lua up for more details.
With lua there will be plenty more gamemodes than there would be with java, due to the fact that lua is simpler than java in many ways. (but it cant do EVERYTHING java can do) Lua can make... weapons (with or without custom models), gamemodes, auto chat things, trackers, simple GUI edits (without textures unless you want an advanced GUI edit then you would need textures), more menus (needing textures unless you can do another menu with main textures), sadly... anti-grief things (like ownership) :sad.gif:, and other things i cant think of right now.
I also hope that Notch post a list of commands and stuff.
I think that's the general idea.
I've never actually modded something with Lua, but I believe what he'll do is release a bunch of Lua based commands that allow us to mess with servers.
Oooooohh,
Someone must code a Mine Fortress 2 mode! MUST, i say!

And like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the giant Screen itself, all of which we inherit shall dissolve. And, like an insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a byte behind.

Well in the latest blog Notch said we'd be able to make our own gamemodes with it.
The Lua stuff is going to be completely server side.

Notch is saying both plugin and API.
Which one is it?
Do we make our own server based off Notch's code, or make plugins?
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
The plugin is the engine that allows Lua to run on the server.
