Not really sure where to post this, but is it possible to play Minecraft Indev via any sort of download or tool or anything? I want to play it for historical purposes. Sorry If I seem noobish asking this.

Why don't you just continue playing the Beta version pal?
Cause indev is much different than infdev, alpha, and beta, and a want to try it out.
I haven't saw that many indev video's, so what is the difference between the things? As far as I know, indev is just an oldschool version of beta. But I haven't played indev yet so I'm not that good in knowing it!

It was really more like classic, with elements of beta...
It was the first step in development that included:
Mining
Smelting
Crafting
Tools
dynamic lighting
day/night
And basically everything that in the game now...
There where distinct differences though:
Maps werent infinite, instead you got to choose what the size, and map type was. Map types where incredibly diverse from each other, like:
Paradise: Always daytime, lots of recources, good farmland, mobs only in caves
Hell: Lava replaces water, always night, very little resources, terrible farmland, no grass
You started off in a pre-made house, the 'indev' house. When you died, you started over.

I loved indev, if not for the floating worldtype, then for the floating sand and the water physics :biggrin.gif:

Actually, yes it is still possible to play indev, along with all the other versions of Minecraft. Go here and download the version

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this is relevant to my interests as I remember playing indev way back when. In particular, there was a map that someone here made called 'DungeonCraft' which I'd like to try and play. Do you know if the Minecraft Version Changer that you linked allows someone to load original indev maps and play them? It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that back in the day, you just put the file into a folder somewhere. If anyone knows this information and could share it with me, then I'd really appreciate it.

And I don't think it's possible to play Indev anymore. It's a shame though, I had a pretty nice base on my old map.

Those were the good ol' days when you had to be extra careful when digging up. The whole cave could've flooded in an instant.
Remember the 90s?

Lol it makes me feel old because I played during early alpha... Which was only a few months ago
I bought the game about a month before the halloween update. :biggrin.gif:

I got it on December of last year, Alpha 1.2.6, just about 5 days before they released Beta. :biggrin.gif:
