I'm new to Minecraft, I've only been playing for a few weeks, but am interested in placing color text on the signs I create. I've spent several hours searching through videos and other posts and at this point am really confused how the color of text is changed. One person says it's done this way, another says it's done that way. But none of their information works. Some videos show using Mods, others don't. At this point in time I'm ready to settle with just black text and not pursue this subject any further.
I log into Minecraft, and play single player, yet some videos show color text can be used in single player mode. Since this seems true I'd like to know how, or what's needed, to produce color text on signs used with Minecraft. Thank you for any help
There are two sign mods, I believe they're called, that allow signs to be edited without using an map editor. One is called Sign Edit and the other SimpleSignEdit. From the videos I watched both let you edit text on signs on the fly, that is, not exiting Minecraft, open an map editor to make changes, and reenter Minecraft.
What isn't made clear in both videos is whether these mods are meant for use with servers, something I'm not using, nor how to use or if needed. Until I can find more information about the use of both of these mods I'll continue using McEditor as I have been.
Don't even go onto THE SITE for SimpleSignEdit! I did that, and it gave my computer the worst virus ever! It starts the download AS SOON AS YOU GET ON THE PAGE! Don't do it!

Thank you for your help. In my several hours of working on this I did find this same information.
Thank you for the help. This isn't something I looked into during the time I spent trying to figure this out. I will look into this.
Comic Sans is the best
I think there's some plug-ins and stuff that can do that as well, but of course MCEdit is probably the easiest way to do it.

Thank you all for your input.
