To hopefully save any trouble, there are no NBT tags associated with mob spawner items; only the tile entities have any tags. You can view all tags associated with items here: http://minecraft.gam...ayer.dat_format So no, there is no possible way to /give a specific spawner in vanilla.
There are reasons why people might want to use traditional monster spawners instead of command blocks, namely: - Command blocks only work on multiplayer if you activate them - Spawners do not require redstone signals, or anything to trigger them - Command blocks cannot be broken, spawners can
And spawners spawn the mobs in a specific range, while command blocks have a certain block where they spawn
Edit: Ok so in 1.8 you can spread the mobs using /spreadplayers with a @e selector, but this would require at least two blocks of command blocks, while a spawner only takes up one.
Darn it. (new!) in 1.8, it is now possible to have blocks in your inventory with custom NBT data.
I'll look in to the command
But yes, it is possible to get custom mob spawners with /give in 1.8
There won't be any visual difference to the item in the inventory. But once you place down the spawner, it takes on the tile data within the "BlockEntityTag". So placing the spawner above would produce a spider spawner. Very cool addition; you can create things like one-time backpacks or reward chests. For example:

There are MCEdit schematics for the various spawners available (just google "blaze spawner schematic"). If you want to stay "in-game", you could also use dispensers with mob eggs. Its not the same as a spawner because the supply is limited and requires extra setup to dispense, but the flip side is you have a lot of control over when, where, and how many mobs spawn.
Better yet, get kamyu's custom mob spawner program, it pumps out spawner schematics for mcedit. And what's, more, you can customize a lot more than just creature types spawning. You can input their health, how many spawn, how fast they are spawned, how big groups they spawn in, how many before the spawner quits, what items they drop, potion effects, current 3d motion when spawned... I won't go on, there are so many things you can do. I love it.

you know, this is just a prime example of people not reading the other comments.

I just tried CTRL+Pick Block to get the block and its NBT data like you can with chests, command blocks, signs, etc., but Pick Block doesn't work on them. I see no reason why it shouldn't, but that's for the Suggestions board.
Well NEI updated to 1.7.2 and it works in multiplayer (If ur a admin) and singleplayer. Or you could just use the set block command if you don't wanna install mods. I would put the command put everyone's already put it...

or, as we keep saying, use the command
give @p mob_spawner 1 0 {BlockEntityTag:{EntityId:Blaze}}
actully you can do /setblock in any 1.8 snapshot.... do /setblock ~ ~1 ~ minecraft:mob_spawner 0 replace {EntityId:Zombie}
p.s. it dosent have to be a Zombie just make sure u caps the first letter of the mobs name ~ is above tab do shift+`do /setblock ~ ~1 ~ minecraft:mob_spawner 0 replace {EntityId:Zombie} that WILL work in any 1.8 snapshot

The problem is that the mob spawners only spawn pigs.

You can always just do a dispenser with some spawn eggs in it. You could do some redstone to make this repeat.
No you cant. You would have to go back to beta to use silk touch and get a spawner
