although most people may not know this, there actualy is a specific way to build an end portal. because although there is no visual representation, there actuly is an "inside edge." and while all the blocks can facein any direction, make sure the last block to reciev an eye of endr is facing in (like a piston, it faces toward you)

just make sure your inside the portal are when you place one of them, and make that the last one you put an eye in

You, sir, just saved my day. On my server people have to buy End frame blocks to build their own portals, and they were pretty unhappy when this didn't work.

You have to do it under sea level.
