I'm building a mob zoo on a large scale. The goal is to exhibit all of the mobs.
So, can an ender dragon be spawned in a cage in the overworld using spawners? I know ghasts can if the spawner is open to the sky, but I haven't figured out how to do it with ender dragons yet.

Ender Dragon cannot be contained because it destroys all blocks except Obsidian, Endstone and Bedrock. It will simply fly through them and escape and go off to destroy your terrain >:biggrin.gif:
I meant in a bedrock cage. I will just make a nice display for the egg, and maybe spawn one in every once and a while, as I plan to put this on my server when I get it running again.
Sadly this is impossible, since enderdragons are in 'no clip' mode. They'll just pass right through everything (Most things in a highly destructive manner). Just as a warning, they'll still go through the bedrock.
If this is for a server though, you could probably find a server mod that puts the dragon so that it isn't in no clip mode. I'd suggest doing that, and then spawning one in.
Yeah he passes through blocks like a ghost. It has to do with *cough lazy programmer *cough. Like said before, I'm sure someone will make a mod that you'd be able to cage the dragon in. But as far as vanilla minecraft goes, the simple answer is sadly no. D:

No, you cannot cage an ender dragon, ender dragons go through any block and destroy most blocks. only way to keep in an ender dragon would be by using command blocks, though this wouldn't work welll.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'll leave this here for future reference:
No, the enderdragon cannot be caged as such. However, you can exploit riding mechanics: try /summon EnderDragon ~ ~ ~ {Riding:{id:Item,PickupDelay:32767,Age:-32768}}. This will spawn an enderdragon at the specified coordinates, riding a dropped item. Because stacked entities have the movement of the bottom entity, and dropped items cannot move, the dragon is effectively immobile.
Also, an item cannot be picked up until its PickupDelay is 0. Oddly enough, if you set PickupDelay to 32767, the delay will not decrease, rendering the item unable to be picked up forever. Same idea for Age, so the item will never despawn. See the wiki for more information.

How?
This mod is Craftable Mob Eggs Mod. You can download it from there: Link Removed
btw...any idea on how to take an enderdragon out of 'no clip' mode in a bukkit plugin?
