Thnaks. And here's a small tip for you: The first post is the most important! So, if its not on the first post, yeah... Planet Minecraft has easy uploads so I post them there.
And, stumbled across this from Google? SWEET!
Ahh apologies, I completely read over you saying you use it! :/
I was having a play around with MCEdit and I need to correct what I said earlier, you can't actually go over the height cap using it.
I think the only way you will be able to build Tar Valon and Dragonmount with sufficient height is by lowering the whole average land height to near bedrock. You should allow 5-10 blocks for the river/harbours but then start constructing the two from as low as possible.

I was just about to post what he^ said, but I have been saved from the effort. It'd be easier just to bring everything near bedrock.
It's unfortunate that the White Tower, one of the places most in need of the extra height, is also the place with multiple levels of basements. And there's enough significant stuff that goes on down there that they'd be hard to leave out even if Furox & company weren't set on accuracy. That's going to greatly reduce how close to bedrock they can put ground level.
Furox, I did notice that you were doing it in Creative, but I assumed that people will eventually want a survival version to run around on, fighting with Zombie/Trollocs and dodging Machin Shin/Ghasts and so on. There is a way to convert a map, though I don't remember the details of how to off the top of my head.
I did get the Silverfish "done". I put that in quotations marks because I have a tendency to not leave well enough alone. Silverfish/Mashadar seemed an appropriate parallel to me because both deter people from rooting around old ruins, and also because traditional modes of fighting just make things worse when dealing with them. And it helps that the shape was convenient. Here's the skin and a couple screenshots if anyone wants them:
Skin--> <--Nearly invisible, sorry.
Excuse the crosshairs. For some reason, toggling them off removes the partial transparency from the Silverfish.
On a separate note, I've been fiddling around a little with texture packs. Don't get your hopes up: I need to improve a lot before I'll have something that I wouldn't be embarrassed to share. As I work, though, I've been trying to figure out what changes need to be made. I thought that I'd post them here to help anyone else who tries to make or compile a pack. And so that you can weigh in with your ideas of what should/should not be changed.
Cloth: The Ajah colors need to be used as tiles in the White Tower. I've seen texture packs that give decorative patterns to the wool which allows for cool decorating details, so the other cloth colors could have designs on them. What designs, though?
Glass & Ice: I think Glass divided into panes looks nice, but that would make it unsuitable for the glass column ter'angreal. Which just means that Ice would need to work for that instead.
Bricks: Probably brick stairs should be usable for tile roofs (like the red one on the Winespring Inn).
Leaves/Pine needles: One type should have trefoil leaves for Avendesora.
Rose: Elaida always went to a lot of trouble to grow them. It seems appropriate that they remain red roses.
Redstone wires: I've seen people use them as blood before. I was thinking that they should be able to work as Trolloc graffiti, in case you want to do...um...a certain dungeon after...um... Gosh, I need to learn how to do spoiler tags.
Iron Block: The Mistress of Novices keeps a mirror in her study. A certain someone else had a mirror in his chambers in the Stone. Temporarily. Didn't end too well, as I recall. Seems like there are other mirrors mentioned, too, so the iron block would be useful if it could be used as that.
TNT: Nightflowers or Aludra's Dragons. Naturally.
Obsidian: Needs to be Waygates, so should be stone with a leaf texture.
Netherrack: Dark pitted stone (like the Ways).
Railroad Tracks: The use of tracks is extremely limited in the books and not essential to duplicate. However, it would be very useful to have tracks to speed travel through the Ways. White lines ran from the Waygates to the nearest Guidings, so I was thinking that they could look like that. I don't believe they ran between Guidings, but I doubt anyone would quibble with having that extra help to find their way around.
Soul Sand: Needs to retain faces so that it can be used for Ba'alzamon's fireplace. Just because it's awesome.
Art: It is possible to do partial transparency. So to add variety, with our limited number of paintings, I've been experimenting with making art that can change color depending on what colors are placed behind it. So, for example, making just the outline of a banner with some transparent shading & highlights (like the ones that hang around Pedron Niall's study) so that you can place it over blue wool and it looks like a blue banner, over red wool it looks red, etc.
Different designs can be made alone, then added wherever decoration is needed--so a White Flame that could be put over the top of doorways, used as a border on walls, etc. all over the White Tower. A White Lion would be useful in Caemlyn, a dragon would be useful for the dragon banner (if nothing else), the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai for banners and such. Probably the Red Eagle and the Wolf's Head would be useful, too, though maybe they should just simply be banners?
I've been trying to think of famous or important paintings/tapestries/stained glass windows/etc. The most obvious would be the Dragon Reborn vs. Ba'alzamon at Falme. It seems like everyone has a copy of that. There are all those portraits of the Andoran Queens in Caemlyn (I've been working on that with transparency, so that changing the color of the wool behind it can change the color of different parts of her dress or hair. Then one or two versions can look like many different queens). Elaida had that triptych in her study. Siuan had a picture of some sort in her study (of fishing boats, I think). That's not exactly important, though, if the space is needed for something else. Also in that category are the random generic tapestries hanging in various castles. Any spare picture space can be taken up with those. There was also a picture in the Fortress of the Light gloating over one of their successes. Can't remember who they were hanging, though, so I'll have to look it up. I think it was a hanging. Could have been a beheading or a burning, though. Anyway, what other paintings and such were there?

Furox, I did notice that you were doing it in Creative, but I assumed that people will eventually want a survival version to run around on, fighting with Zombie/Trollocs and dodging Machin Shin/Ghasts and so on.Yup. There is a way to convert a map, though I don't remember the details of how to off the top of my head.As always, I google it. =)
I did get the Silverfish "done". Oooo!
On a separate note, I've been fiddling around a little with texture packs. Don't get your hopes up: I need to improve a lot before I'll have something that I wouldn't be embarrassed to share. Of course! As I work, though, I've been trying to figure out what changes need to be made. I think I can help a bit. In my quote markings.
I got no ideas for this.
And for any other brick roof. I already thought of this and I think SMP's revival really has "brick" down well. It fits my description of brick anyway! Hehe.
Leaves/Pine needles: One type should have trefoil leaves for Avendesora. I agree, pine needles do have that, look.
Rose: Elaida always went to a lot of trouble to grow them. It seems appropriate that they remain red roses. Yup. I don't remember anything that should have them be anything different. Other than taking yellow flowers and changing them into roses.
Redstone wires: I've seen people use them as blood before. I was thinking that they should be able to work as Trolloc graffiti, in case you want to do...um...a certain dungeon after...um... Gosh, I need to learn how to do spoiler tags. Let's just say that trolloc graffiti and ogier writing is a good use. The ogier writings in the ways?
Iron Block: The Mistress of Novices keeps a mirror in her study. A certain someone else had a mirror in his chambers in the Stone. Temporarily. Didn't end too well, as I recall. Ew... I remember that part. By not well, you mean almost *slices neck*... Seems like there are other mirrors mentioned, too, so the iron block would be useful if it could be used as that. Wish mirrors were more, "pre-made" though...
TNT: Nightflowers or Aludra's Dragons. Naturally. Perhaps even fireworks? But I don't know, since I just used redstone torches as fireworks.
Well, you kinda were thinking what I was thinking. Because "Banners" being made in minecraft is oversized. I want to take just the colors. But if we get close, we should have the banners.
Anyway, what other paintings and such were there?
The paintings that were put in the tower when Siuan was... no longer there. You have me doing your "secrets". But, that's all that I could think of. I'll dig around the books.
I'll start working on this 6 months from now. :mellow.gif: *Big shock? Well, I had inspiration that was bleeding my brains... I HAD to work on it or die from my imagination overflowing the dam.*
This thread will remain "open", so you can all discuss things.
Cya, guys! *sniff sniff* :sad.gif:
Oh and Tar Valon wins the poll. When I "finish" projects, the first thing you'll see is Tar Valon.
Hey, if your team wants to get something completed before you go, I would suggest... Warning! Winter's Heart spoiler!
...a replica of Shadar Logoth. Post cleansing. Hand everyone a couple stacks of TNT and you should have yourselves a fine city-sized crater in no time. :wink.gif: Sounds like it would make a nice going away party, too (if it doesn't crash the server).
You know, in six months I might have a texture pack worth looking at. :laugh.gif: Speaking of which. I'm glad to hear we're on the same page regarding bricks and roses. Though honestly, I was less worried about you arguing than I was about someone else making a texture pack and not considering those things. I'm trying to be practical and anticipate any potential problems.
I love the idea about the Ogier script! That'll be great.
You didn't mention anything about my proposed changes to netherrack, obsidian, and tracks. They're the most drastic changes, so I'm most concerened about the results of that. I'm going to assume that means you can't think of any problems that would cause at this point. If you or a team member do think of something later, let me know.
Yeah, I didn't know that was possible with the paintings either until I tried it. I didn't expect it to work, but figured it was worth a shot. It does cause issues with the frame, but I think I worked that out reasonably ok.
The paintings and patterns on the wool really ought to be the last thing completed anyhow (even though I've been having fun playing with the paintings right now). I didn't expect you to know all you'll want right off, I just want you to keep those in mind. Then as you're building and find something is very plain you can come here and say something like "I really need something for the Stone...maybe one of the wools could have a Tairen maze on it?"
Actually, I'm thing of that for the gold block. They do favor gold in Tear, if I recall correctly, and then you could embed it in walls and floors as a design. The only other place I remember large amounts of gold right now is the sunburst in Pedron Niall's study. If the design is subtle that shouldn't be a problem there. We'll see, though. In addition to the wool and gold, diamond blocks and lapis blocks could also have a design.
It occurred to me that another use for pictures would be as signs, such as the one on the Queen's Blessing. Those would be very, very, specific, though. Maybe in six months there'll be more pictures for me to replace. That would be nice.
Will your team be able to get on the server to work at all while you're gone, or will they just be doing research and planning?
Anyway, we'll see you in six months. I hope that all works out well for you.
Edit: If anyone's interested, I've just uploaded several WoT skins to my Planet Minecraft account.
My team is going to be reading the books and writing things down, since there won't be a server for them to go onto. Subtle things that they "imagine" when reading are actually ways to fully comprehend what the place looks like.
Well, I didn't say anything about Nether things and tracks because it's... near-perfect of an idea.
If only Notch had more blocks... then we could get real creative! :dry.gif:
Keep the thread high on the forum list, it helps us to get people who don't know about it to see it and it'll help you guys stay "on top" of all our updates!
And really, 4000 people who have seen this thread should be making comments... Just saying...
I think one of the big reasons people don't comment is because a good portion of Minecrafters don't read very many books. At least, not good ones like the Wheel of Time.
I think one of the big reasons people don't comment is because a good portion of Minecrafters don't read very many books. At least, not good ones like the Wheel of Time.
Well, when you put it that way, but I did put this past Dragonmount forums where people "do" know about it. So I'm just wondering why people who knew about it from there haven't posted at all... Because the number of views from around here wouldn't even top 500. So 4k? People who understand the books.
But you're right about a good number of Minecrafters. They equal a bunch, (around the age of), 12 year-olds who are illiterate. (Which is proven through multiplayer, they can't type worth a dime.)
My definition of illiteracy is very loose, because I name literacy as being more knowledgeable rather than confined to words. For example: "You babbling, illiterate fool!" is a common way for me to say, "You're an idiot," with larger words. :laugh.gif:
They are also planning on making lots of games. Its Obsidian and Red Eagle Entertainment doing them. At least one of them is going to be an MMO. Whether or not this they actually are going to make them depends on the films I guess.
There are also rumours that the films might actually be a TV series.
A TV Series makes sense since i really don't think they could cover the amount of content in Wheel of Time with films.

Perhaps not that many of the people who saw your mention on Dragonmount played Minecraft? Or maybe they expected a crummy half-arsed land with distances so short that people in Cairhien could see Falme?
...Now I'm just contributing questions with their positive answers most likely not being true.
Awesome.
Will you make the Nether into the Ways? Not neccesary, but it fits. Nether portals could be waygates and you could just delete all the blocks in the Nether and build the bridges and islands that make up the ways. Ghasts would do farily well as Machin shin too.
Anyway I would like to see how this turns out. Good luck :biggrin.gif: .
...and then we find a medical condition that I had no knowledge of...
Wow, I'm sorry. :sad.gif: I hope it's something treatable or (better yet) curable.
Good to have you back, anyway, even if it's for a lousy reason. Guess I need to work faster on my attempt at a texture pack. Still hoping someone else with more experience will give it a shot as well, though.
As far how many views there are, half are just me checking back for updates. :tongue.gif: Actually, I think you're right about not many Minecrafters having read the books. The average age is just too young for them. And I'm sure there are a number of people who are waiting to see more completed before allowing themselves to get too excited about the project. That's the approach I usually take when I see something getting started that could be cool. There are, unfortunately, a lot of threads around here demonstrating good ideas minus the tenacity or skill to actually pull those ideas off. But your team will get more credence once you start posting more pictures and such.
Yes. I believe that is how people will start to pay attention more now.
Our next project is being completed and might be run with a video instead of just pictures, so stay tuned in that area. In other words, we believe this latest development was good enough to be put into the actual map, so its a completed building, not just concept. (That wall you see, is just concept...)
Ahh apologies, I completely read over you saying you use it! :/

Boot is manageable, if not much fun from what I've heard. You'll come out of it a stronger person. I have faith in you! :smile.gif:
Yea, and now I come back with a disabling medical condition. Well, T-50 is better than nothing.
As was so stated above, yes I have returned!
I got to T-50, and then we find a medical condition that I had no knowledge of, and I get my butt sent home...
Well, it's not like I didn't learn anything. I'm a better person because of it.
AND it's back to work. Not as vigorously as last time, I have no time crunch. But it's late and I'll get some more info up later.

That's the approach I usually take when I see something getting started that could be cool. There are, unfortunately, a lot of threads around here demonstrating good ideas minus the tenacity or skill to actually pull those ideas off. But your team will get more credence once you start posting more pictures and such.
Our next project is being completed and might be run with a video instead of just pictures, so stay tuned in that area. In other words, we believe this latest development was good enough to be put into the actual map, so its a completed building, not just concept. (That wall you see, is just concept...)
May the be with you.
