Pretty awesome stuff ya got here. Can't wait to see your finished product.
I hope you don't mind me asking: What's the texture pack that you're using?
I am temporarily using SMP's Revival Texture Pack, because its got that medieval feel to it, but I'm hoping the community will be gracious enough to give me a special one.
This is Fantastic! i was just thinking of embarking on this journey aswell. what i wanted to know was what scale are you using on the map because i havn't found one and have serious motivational issues to look through the books to find it, for between cities in the books and also on your map? also i hope you make the white tower round because i have heard people say its square. if you make it square i shall be very VERY upset.
The Westlands are roughly 4000 miles across. Which is almost twice the size of the United States. :ohmy.gif:
Yeah... That's huge. So, I don't know how to scale it down or leave it 1:1. Of course, 1:1 is impossible without upping the ceiling... Idk yet, but I am not yet out of concepts, so I will find out.
And about the White Tower: It's round. The Wheel of Time game that came out, made it square because it was easier for them to make it that way. And Tomm Cameron's painting of the White Tower was square also, so it's a common misconception.
Glad to see someone is attempting this. Since finding out that the Nether was partially based on the Ways, WoT and MC have become linked in my mind. I think of 'Waygates', not Portals, wolves don't 'teleport', they Travel/Skim, etc. And, of course, it's the reason for my username on here.
Anyway, I look forwarded to your progress. If you haven't checked it out yet, you would probably find the Encyclopaedia WoT website useful. It has things like lists of where in the books places are mentioned. Here are the pages for Tear and the Stone: Tear The Stone
A couple suggestions...I'm sure you're using Portals for Waygates, but they'd be appropriate for the twisted doorway ter'angreal as well. Maybe even embedded in the Portal Stones and as the testing arches for the Wise Ones and Aes Sedai. Even if you reduce the space between cities, this map is still going to be far larger than is comfortable to travel without plenty of access to the Nether/Ways.
Steddings deserve a place on your to-do list (it's certainly not too short, but making tree dwelling place things with oversized furniture sounds fun).
I've always thought that Soul Sand would make a wonderful fireplace for Ba'alzamon. Though I fear that adding Tel'aran'rhiod makes this project even larger.
Heh. As long as I'm making your list insanely long, I'd like to mention the Choedan Kal, Ebou Dar, Hawkwing's Spire, the Black Tower, the Tower of Ghenjei, Far Madding, Fortress of the Light, what's left of Malkier... There are, of course, a ton of other places, but those are the ones that I think have enough description to give you something interesting to work with. I'm sure I'll think of others soon, too, though I'm still sticking with my vote for Rhuidean for now.
I love The Wheel of Time series. if you pull this off i'll be seriously impressed. Tar Valon is one that i'm most excited to see. mostly because then not only will you have the city to create, but the you'll have to sculpt the land. so the river splits around it and the mountain! We must not forget one of the most important mountains in world's history! I'm excited to start reading the books again.
EDIT: I just looked at the pics and i see you've already made Dragonmount. Finish the area with Tar Valon! or not, i'm sure you got something good on the go.

Wow! Thanks for pointing out so many things. You know what? I'll make a concept stedding real quick, and see how it turns out. Now where did I put my big tree?

I'm glad that you're excited. There's a lot of hype from people who are not posting, because they don't play minecraft, or they don't have accounts. I saw 34 guests one time.
Tar Valon will be hard. I admit that. You're right that I'll need to modify the terrain, because obviously everything is going from bedrock to the ceiling. (Just found out that 1:1 will require a huge flat map. :mellow.gif: )
But, Thank you for posting and giving a vote. I'm also glad to see that you saw the pictures on Planet Minecraft. I don't post them here because its a pain to upload somewhere else, (like not PMC), then post here.
It would be amazing if you could make Shadar Logoth.
I "am" doing the entire thing, but I am only going "west" from Rhuidean. The lands beyond the knowledge of the people of the Westlands are not going to be created. So, Shadar Logoth is included. Not to worry!
But, I'm thinking of doing it "before Rand" and an "after Rand" type thing.
Because the world changes as much as the characters.
Which city/monument should be done first?
Tar Valon. (5 votes [22.73%])
Tear. (4 votes [18.18%])
Caemlyn. (2 votes [9.09%])
Two Rivers. (4 votes [18.18%])
Avendesora. (The tree of life) (4 votes [18.18%])
*Anything that had 3 or more votes is being counted in this "standing" of the poll.*
And Tar Valon is in the lead! Being closely followed by Tear and the Two Rivers! My, those two are stubborn! And look, Caemlyn brings about the rear but seems to want to catch up. Tar Valon holds close to the inside and doesn't let those two pass.
oooOOOooo. Shadar Logoth. That is an excellent idea. So excellent, in fact, that I am currently attempting to reskin Silverfish to look like bits of Mashadar tendrils. I haven't much practice with reskinning non-humans, so no guarantees how well it'll turn out. I'll post it here when it's done and Furox can decide if he likes it enough to use. The tendril bits won't be connected to each other, of course, but with enough of them together that shouldn't be noticeable.
I'm not too familiar with MCEdit or Creative...can you place Silverfish spawners? I'm thinking that you could put a bunch on the rooftops. During the day they'd have too much light to work, but at night they would start to fill up the buildings and then trickle out into the street... ...heeheehee...
As far as which you start with, I think that if you flip back and forth to whichever is most popular you won't ever get anything done. And getting some part completed to show off is essential for both your team's morale and your project's visibility. I suppose that it doesn't hurt to give the poll a little more time now if you're spending it doing research, but I really think that you should be doing whatever you're most excited about now. You'll have time to let polls get voted on while you're busy building--and after more interested people have had a chance to find you. Surely there are more than 25 WoT fans hanging out on this forum! I know the population here skews young, but it's not all 9 year olds. And anyway, I want to see more stuff built. :laugh.gif:

While in concept, we have to flip back and forth to get a better picture of the place we're doing. We won't do what's most popular in the concept phase anyways. The main reason the poll is in place is so we know what to focus on when concept phase is finished. Sure we may have pictures now, but just wait, it's all going to change.
I hope there are more than only 25 WoT fans here! I posted this in the Minecraft Thread of Dragonmount Forums. I sometimes wonder if they actually took me seriously! :mellow.gif:
I also planned on the poll going for about 3 weeks to gather a large enough population of votes. So no need to worry about that!
Silverfish spawners for Mashadar tendrils, eh? Interesting idea. But that'll make it in the Survival mode. Creative mode is the current setting because it is easy to build everything. And MCedit can take any spawner and copy it, so, I could theoretically get different spawners in different places.
And, in other news which will be posted on the front post sometime when I get a chance. I am going to use a world painter for Randland. All --- 3800 --- miles. And then raise the roof of Minecraft. BUT NO WORRIES! We got it.
Thread is again under heavy construction. I am making it more optimized for other browsers and to clean up links. I get better at BBcode the more I use it! So expect a bit better looking front post.
Also, does anyone have good artistic skills? Please, let me know. Cause a new banner would be awesome. Or just modify the one we have.
I like to see how other people see a fictional world. I want to read the books but can not find them anywhere!
Haha, I have a little present for you! This link will lead you to find all the books. Just have them shipped to your address. Consider it an early Christmas gift!
*It's not widely available in the USA, so it's easier online.*
Well, what I meant to say was if you were to make a film out of this world, (Series or such) Loial's appearance could be a problem, because of his height.

I managed to stumble across this thread via google actually, and might be able to give you a tip or two!
A program you can use for mass block managing is MCEdit, I've been using it for quite a few of my builds and it has definitely saved me a LOT of time. I'm not sure if you already do use it, didn't want to really read through 3 pages of comments :tongue.gif:.
It could make creating things like Dragonmount a lot easier though, especially if you were to create a large hole in the ground (down to bedrock) and then build Dragonmount up from there, you can then go into MCEdit and move the entire mountain upwards and it can go over the height cap.
The same thing could be done with the White Tower, perhaps building sections of it on the ground and then piecing them all together via the program.
I hope this has helped! Let me know how it goes.
PS, if you need any help with the actual construction I am MORE than willing to help. Been messing around trying to construct a few things to do myself but really it is extremely time consuming by yourself.
Great fan of the books and it really is a tragedy that Robert Jordan died :sad.gif:

Thnaks. And here's a small tip for you: The first post is the most important! So, if its not on the first post, yeah... Planet Minecraft has easy uploads so I post them there.
