The one available in the launcher has been changed some, since its original release. As its launcher name says, it is version 0.30_01c (not 0.30), even though in the game itself, it displays the number 0.30 (not 0.30_01c). However, if you load the JAR file in 7zip, you will notice that there are a number of folders and files that have a modification year of 2011, even though classic phase of MC ended at the end of 2009. I'm not sure why these changes were made, but they mean it's not the true version 0.30. While I do consider it an official JAR (not a modded JAR), as this was done by Mojang and not a player, I had always wished there would be a true copy of MC classic 0.30 somewhere, in its original form. And I finally found a copy. I found it by looking at archive.org, the internet archive "wayback machine", and searching their archives of minecraft.net.
Now in this JAR I found, examining it in 7zip, I found that no file has a modified year greater than 2009. This is the true original 0.30 classic MC JAR file. The JAR's file size is also smaller. It is 291,588 bytes instead of 297,776 bytes. I plan to send this JAR file to Mojang so they can add it to the launcher, but for now I'm posting the link below (just in case it takes them a while to add it to the launcher).
Here's the direct link to download the file JAR file.
While Mojang doesn't allow 3rd parties to distribute JARs, I consider this to be an ok link to post, as it is a direct archive of the official Minecraft site (like jumping into a time machine and viewing the official site at some point in the past). If Mojang didn't want it archived, they could have used robots.txt to block archive.org, as archive.org does respect the use of robots.txt.

Hmm, may have to take a look at this. Classic would be a real trip down memory lane, as I have played classic before.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Cool, hope they respond soon, I'd love to see what Classic was like back in the day.
You can still play Classic 0.30_01c in the launcher (and have been able to for a long time now)), but not the original Classic 0.30. What I linked to is the the original 0.30, so you can download it. Not sure what differences there are (they look the same to me), but there must be some improvements in 0.30_01c (maybe bug fixes of some kind?).

So they're not adding Classic 0.30 to the launcher because 0.30_01c is there?

I don't know. I've contacted them, and I'll see what they end up doing. Maybe they didn't even know that this was accessible on archive.org but I contacted them and let them know.
0.30 (released on November 10, 2009) the first one (and the one that most people remember) playing on the website.
0.30_01 (released on December 8, 2009) the one available in the launcher now, and also I assume the next one to be released on the website (but no longer on the website). It also introduced (supposedly) a player model using the MD3 character model, though I have never seen my character model when playing it.
0.30_02 (released on December 19, 2009) the first ever version of Minecraft to have the character Rana (even before Indev 0.31 came out). This I assume was also available at one point in the launcher.
0.30_03 (released on December 22, 2009), this one added Steve, Black Steve, and Beast Boy, as well as the giant. Again, I assume this was at one point available in the launcher, but it no longer is.
Now 0.30_01 supposedly was re-released in 2011, with a fix to make it keep working on the website (as the above poster said). Since the entire META-INF folder in the JAR has had new files put in it, I can only assume that this was because the old security certificate expired, and was no longer accepted by newer versions of the Java browser plugin. Whatever the case, it is a bit strange that they repaired and re-released the second oldest revision of version 0.30, instead of the latest version (0.30_03). I can only assume that had something to do with the models used in 0.30_02 and 0.30_03 being created by Dock, who later pulled out of the company, and in the process rescinded his permission for Mojang to use his models. Therefore, in order to avoid infringing on Dock's copyright, those at Mojang responsible for keeping a version of Classic on the site were forced to use the last version of Classic that did not have Dock's models in it, and that corresponds to version 0.30_01.
I have no idea whether or not there's still a copy of 0.30_02 or 0.30_03 laying around on some harddrive at Mojang's headquarters, but if it is they may not be able to release it in the launcher, because of Dock's copyright on the models used in those versions of the game.
The reason I had to use archive.org when looking at the Minecraft wiki, is because the current version of the wiki has no mention of the 4 revisions of Classic 0.30, other than to make the false statement "This version is available in the launcher, mislabelled as 0.30_01c, a version which never existed.". The fact is it did exist, but just wasn't labeled as such in-game (it always shows the text "0.30"). Of course Indev versions did the same thing, always showing "0.31" (on older versions) or "Minecraft Indev" on newer versions. But that didn't mean that Indev only had 2 versions, as there were many more than that. Same thing with Classic 0.30, as there were actually 4 revisions of Classic 0.30. Whether those 0.30_01, 0.30_02, etc, are the correct designations for those those revisions, I don't know (and I don't think it was ever published by Mojang), but the fact is there were 4 revisions of Classic 0.30. I just wish that the new version history entries on the Minecraft wiki actually mentioned these, instead of falsely claiming that there was only one version of Classic 0.30.

Hey! I changed one tiny tidbit in a c0.29_02.JSON file to make it run! Here is the link.
BTW this is a great find!
EDIT: You have to rename the minecraft.jar to c0.30.jar and put it in a folder named c0.30
More importantly, where did you get a copy of Classic 0.29_02? That version isn't even available in the launcher yet.
I don't know. I've contacted them, and I'll see what they end up doing. Maybe they didn't even know that this was accessible on archive.org but I contacted them and let them know.
Awesome, maybe find a way to make it run as c0.29_02? That'd be great.

What did they change to make it playable? Did they update which class files?
And according to an older version of the Minecraft wiki https://web.archive.org/web/20171106093857/https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Version_history/Classic there were 4 revisions of version 0.30. These are:
0.30 (released on November 10, 2009) the first one (and the one that most people remember) playing on the website.

The reason it was modified was so it could work outside of the browser
