I am working on a recreation of a house I used to live in on a server that has, sadly, shut down. Unfortunately, I've been forced to work from memory since I have no screenshots of the original house but so far I've been doing a decent job. However, I have come to an issue with the roof. Essentially the house has a large tower that is 17x17. At the top, there is a dome that goes around the whole thing and there were paths branching outwards to lead to bedrooms and things of that nature. I want to know what the minimum size would be for me to be able to build a dome without breaking apart my tower. Thanks in advance for advice.
The diagonal of a 17X17 square in just a little bit more than 24 (24.0416) so the inner diameter of the dome would have to be just a bit more than 24 and the radius a bit more than 12.
Since you can't do a really circular circle in Minecraft it's hard to know exactly what you should choose, anything larger than 26 ought to work.
If you want it to be as close as possible I would suggest looking at a site that has diagrams for 3-d shapes for MC and look at the biggest circle of a dome, starting with a diameter of 24 and see if a 17X17 square fits inside, if not try the next size.
