The next project I've got my eye on is a zombie pigman gold farm. Who has built one on the Xbox? Which style is it (overworld portal, above top bedrock in nether, etc)? What drop rates do you see? Any details or even a video of it would be appreciated.
It's on my to-do- list. I'm gunna make an above nether gold farm. It should be the best and easiest cuz u won't have to half slab the entire nether. Lol YouTube - gold farm 1.8. U'll get some very creative ideas and designs.
I've seen several. But I wanted to post on this forum and get some that are verified working on the Xbox. I've been burned a couple of times doing builds from PC tutorials that don't work or barely work on the Xbox because of some subtle difference.
We did an over world farm but it is not very efficient. will probably revisit and add a lot more portal area to increase efficiency. But right now it is in a part of the world that no one is working in so the chunk isn't loaded anyway.
Would it be more obsidian-effective to use the larger portals? I'm still not sure if the drop chance is "per portal" or "per portal block".
Great idea about the iron farm. My only issue with doing that is that my iron farm is couple hundred blocks away from my base, where my doors don't interfere with the iron farm village center. And from what I've read, the pigman farm will operate as long as the chunk is loaded, without regard to player distance. So, I was thinking put it about 50 blocks from my base and have it run all the time in "afk" mode where they fall to their death. Then have a switch to make it "XP/drop mode" where I can drop them a little less far and give them the killing blow. Kinda like you do in your vid, which was my inspiration for this project.
I recently built this on PS4 but it should be compatable with xbox one. Probably could have added more portal blocks for more pigmen and made some small adjustments but maybe this will give you some ideas.
That's the vid I was talking about, Baldur. Ima get to work on something similar as soon as I get an obsidian generator going. I just wish I knew wha the specifics were on the spawning to forgive out of the individual small portals like in your vid are the way to go larger, long portals.
Oh, I just saw you answered that in another thread I was following. Lol.
I just built a load of portals with a water trench to feed the pigmen into a masher with a hopper and get pretty good drop rates. It's also next to my main house so it generally stays within the spawn chunk keeping it quite efficient
I am using a design that was showcased by Dan kotes last year, but of course I had to make it bigger... : D. I have four sets of 40 mega portals 23 × 23, similar set up as baldurs set up above in a cross scction, and five ghasts in each tube, ( and yes it took quite some time to catch 20 ghasts) sweeping the pigment out of the portals in a central collection area in the Centre of the four tubes where I afk with my army of iron golems, I have not done any real testing on rates but I get on average 12 to 15 gold blocks per hour, so it's not too bad, only down side is the three double chests of obsidian needed to build it and of course the twenty ghasts...
But yes you are better off use the largest portals, 23 X 23 because pigmen spawning goes by the more purple portals blocks you got in you're farm so using smaller portals you are using more obsidian which is reducing the amount of portal blocks you could have. And of course pigment spawning in portals depends on you're range to the farm so don't build it too high, mine is just above ground level so it runs while I'm around the base working, but that was also why I went with a ghast sweeper so it still works when Im far away...
Actually after doing the math it was over four, 160 portals at 83 obsidian per portal is 13000, plus I built it in all obsidian, all the rail lines afk spot the works so one could add on amother chest... =)
and no no tutorial but he gives a basic explanation through the video, all it is a simple 1 tick comparator clock powering the lines, if you pause and look quite carefully you should figure it out, and the two last end rails I have them wired up to a switch incase they become out of sync, normally due to auto save and such, he had them wired up to a hopper clock but says a lever would do too, I have four of Dans forming a cross shape but only went 40 long to his 64, cause some comments were saying to many pigmen were despawning inside.
You should also check out "pugnation" he has a nice gold farm design which is one I built for my girl, or "AlexCosta" has another nice showcase design... hope and of them are helpful, I want to build Alex costa's one some time myself too cause it looks pretty mad...

I doubt that farm will work on console, for the following reasons.
#1 Entity count is seriously low on the console version, and guess what exp orbs count as an entity, item frames, and the item within, and all mob drops, so a good part of your drops (exp and otherwize) is simply going not going to generate because your already at the cap. I've run upon this issue multiple times, hopefully one day we'll get a bump to our entity count, yes it would still work but at MUCH reduced rates.
#2 Minecarts on console move MUCH MUCH MUCH faster then on PC, and they move at such high speeds that mobs would have a near impossible time tracking, and following you in the minecart, and thus likely wouldn't argo others as it should. There are ways to somewhat control the speed but it makes minecarts misbehave, (for the love of god 4j Please give us an option to use minecarts at regular speeds).

Dang, that's a lot of obsidian. 😉

Lol. Wish we had an obsidian generator that worked for the console.
Watched the Kotes vid. Is there a tutorial on that sweeper system? For either the Ghast or the slime variant?
But we do, I play on xbox one. ; )

Cool. Thanks!
Alex Costa's farm is INSANE. Pure craziness..

But its a very nice design.
