I've done some googling on this, but I'm finding conflicting information and raising more questions. I'd be very grateful if some of you knowledgable guys would weigh in on these:
1. Does resetting the nether disable achievements? It kinda seems a little like "cheating" to me, but what I've read seems to point to no, that it doesn't disable achievements.
2. Does it move the nether fortress? I've seen conflicting answers on this one. Not that I've found my nether fortress yet. I'm just curious.
3. Some have said that resetting the nether multiple times can cause wither skeletons or other mobs to stop spawning. Others say no. Any truth to this?
4. Are there any other negative affects of resetting the nether? Other than any mining or building I might have done would go away.
5. Can you reset it infinite times? Wiki uses the word "infinite". Just double-checking.
6. Does it restock nether fortress chests? Infinite loot! Lol
7. Any other points or warnings about resetting the nether that this noob might not be thinking of?
Basically, I think the Quartz block is hella-cool and would like to build a big stockpile of it by mining near my portal, returning home, reset nether, rinse and repeat. Glowstone too, although that one isn't such a big deal if I can ever get my witch farm working right. I haven't really done much in the nether so far. Looks like a lot of possibilities. Infinite source of lava for infinite obsidian, infinite quartz, netherrack for cool fireplaces, if I don't accidentally burn my house down (again). Any thoughts, answers, or advice would be greatly welcomed.
I reset the nether to get more soul sand, quartz etc. I also keep everything in hard survival so getting those materials is more dangerous than just about any other materials you can get. I love building with obsidian blocks and quartz on hard survival. Here is a video I made about resetting the nether to get infinite materials but my standard resets are maybe once a month or two solo and every week or two multiplayer. I do not build any grinders or xp farms in the nether. I like keeping part of the world dangersous. I also don't build xp farms in the end either.
I've read the wiki and know basically what it is. I was just curious what Baldur was doing with it that he needed a lot of it. He always has some cool, unusual designs for stuff.
A couple of things I have done are building a temple and a mote. The temple was built in the desert with the end portal in the center of the temple and it was about the size of a desert temple structure. Light sources were flowing lava. The temple was built to display the armor and weapons used to kill the dragon and display the dragon egg on a platform about 30 blocks above the end portal. The mote was built around my house and was 6 blocks wide and extended from the surface down to bedrock with soul sand lining the walls and floor. The house was built out of obsidian and a wall around the mote was made of obsidian.
i haven't reset the nether in a long time, and i only tried because i couldn't find the fortress....... it didn't help.
so from a previous attempt (think it's still valid)
1) no

for me the limited "infinite loot" as you call it doesn't out weigh the usefulness of building a trains station, mob spawner and blaze spawner etc
With # 4 I have one word of caution, all your farms and things you have built will disappear so before you reset make sure you are aware of what you will lose (in terms of farm output materials)
No the soul sand dragon temple was destroyed by TNT when some people came on the world and then we got an update so I started a new world. I do intend to build another one but getting 5,000 to 8,000 blocks of soul sand is dangerous and time consuming so it's one of those projects I work on for months just to gather materials in between doing my other builds. I play on hard survival and my current world is very open in the nether so when I'm mining sand the ghast are shooting and then the glitch where fire doesn't show up so I have sort of decided to wait for the update. The update will probably change the way the world generates anyway so I'll start again.

I totally get that. It's something I would do early in my world (like now) before I start utilizing the nether like you're talking about.
Yes, with the same loot, nothing more or less.
Resetting the nether is just get it back as the first time.
Btw, you are cheating lol (I tried it too, but it's boring, if you want infinite loot just play in creative mode).

Lol. Yeah, I just really was thinking easy quartz. The other questions came up while I was researching.

What do you do with the soul sand?
