then why cant I play saved games off line without it needing to sync with the cloud?
Try this: Go to Settings->Network, and choose "Go offline" (left side of the screen). Now try to play your MC game. My guess is that it will work fine. If not, you have other problems. (Not sure what that would be.) Don't forget to take the console online again when you're done.
Tomorrow I'll be running a few tests directly with Microsoft to try and further identify the issues being reported by players.

then why cant I play saved games off line without it needing to sync with the cloud?
If this hasn't been fixed yet with cloud...
on xbox one you can't play some games offline... Idk if this is still true but when I first got the one it was like that... I haven't tried this yet again but if it is that's why
top gun! we are talking about xbox one, not pc! and ohnou81, do me a favour then on your xbox one, remove your profile form it, then put it back, now try to play the worlds you saved! id like to know if you can!
I have my profile on multiple xboxs... I never have problems with saves disappearing...
I don't think saves go to the external at all. Your game files can be moved there, or installed there. But saves are treated like system files instead of user files. (They shouldn't be.) To my knowledge, they stay in the internal drive. If someone can verify that this isn't the case, I'd be grateful. Here is one way to test, for people with access to more than one XB1. Move Minecraft to the external, if it isn't there already. Take the console offline. Then do something in Minecraft--anything, even making your initials out of blocks. Save the game. Shut down the system, and unplug your external. Plug it into the 2nd console, and power it up. Make sure it is offline too. Now boot up Minecraft, and see if you can load up the new save game, and for completeness, verify that the changes to the world are there.
and yes you can save to the external hdd without having to copy iy to the hdd... I do it on every game..... If you have the external hdd as default hdd, then any and all information goes to the external hdd... You can't be forced to save your saves to the system hdd, and only save your games to the external hdd... I'm telling you from experience that an external hdd saves you from lost saves...
also so if it's on the external the console can't just revert the save because the console doesn't technically have the save on the console.. Th external and system hdd are two separate hdds.
I just read a lot of everyone's issues. So are most if not all of you trying to sync your world from the cloud? Why even have your world on the cloud? It's a lot easier to just keep it on the hard drive of the console. The only reason for cloud storage is maybe a backup or two of your world or if you play on multiple consoles.

Your experience doesn't mean a thing if you don't isolate the variables. Of course your saves are available across multiple Xboxes if your profile is on all of them, and you're online. The data gets synched in behind the scenes. The only way to make sure your saves are on the external drive is to perform an offline test, such as the one I suggested. Here it is again:

Huh, this seems to be a common area of confusion. With the Xbox One, there is no option to save to the local HD - it is done that way always, for every game. And the cloud save is also automatic, unless your console is offline. If you sign into Live, and play a game, the save will be synced with the cloud. All of this is clear in the cloud storage FAQ.
So, the answer to the question, "Why even have your world on the cloud?" is, "There is no choice, if your console is online and signed into Live." This is not some option that people are choosing - it is the way the system is designed. The merits of the system are debatable, though personally I haven't had any issues with it (knock on a spruce block).

Let me add this, if I can access my game saves on my computer, then my saves are on my external hdd...
And again... If you select the ex hdd as the default hdd then nothing will go to the console.... My console hdd only has the system updates... The amount of space left never changes...

I I don't know why they are saving to cloud anyway... But online if your not running through a ex hdd then cloud will ruin....
what is annoying me is... Some people on here think they are the only one having the problem, when minecraft is not the only one with this problem... For Xbox preview players then they know cloud saves for backwards compatibility is messed up, sometimes it doesn't save sometime it does.
i suggested a fix to it, and cobra keeps fighting back with me.... I have suggested this to many friends to get a ex hdd and they use to always lose theirs saves on the one because of some reason I still don't know how.... But when they got a ex hdd their one maps haven't disappeared at all.
On the 360 I got multiple friends to get the ex hdd because as everyone knows there's always that one update that deletes all your maps, and if on the ex hdd that wouldn't happen..
the ex hdd is no way part of the consoles hdd so selecting it as default hdd on any console will save you the hastle of losing anything on any game...

I just tried your way, my dads one doesn't have my account on it. So I put my account on it, unplugged the router, plugged in my ex hdd... Opened minecraft... To longer to load than normal, went to the load map screen, still took longer than normal... My maps were there...
i dont see see what your talking about, my saves are on my ex hdd... They are transferring over like they should offline...

Perfect. Thank you for going through the test. This is something I can't do myself, with only one console. Nice to know, and even nicer to know that I can access game saves on a PC from the external. I'll check that out sometime. Also, one thing I hadn't thought of is that you can back up saves if you have more than one console (even if they reside on the internal drive). That would be an awfully expensive way to do it, though.
so, just for you! I just took my xbox off line, went on mc and there is only one game save on there out of about ten that I have. so that clearly doesn't work! and fyi, I have been using games consoles and computers since the 70s so I know my way around thank you, im not an idiot like a lot of people out there!
I don't understand your reply, saying " you have your profile on multiple xboxs.... and never have problems with saves disappearing"? I have never said my saves disappear once! all I have said is every save I made before transferring my profile to a new xbox wont sync now, meaning it wont let me play!! it gives you an option to "play offline" even tho I am currently on line when trying to sync. I tried going off line then playing the game and only one save comes up, which tells me that the saves have gone to the cloud and are not on the hdd internal or external! except for just this one that's come up for some reason, the only thing I can think of is because it was the only one I played while I was streaming on twitch.
Bottom line on multiple games at the moment, cloud saves/ syncing is broken... It's like that for the backwards compatibility games on the one

I never called you an idiot. I was trying to help you. The fact remains that saves go on your drive first, then get synched online (if and when that troubled functionality actually works). Now, if you migrate to another Xbox, then all bets are off. Saves there must be either new ones or synched ones. All I can tell you is that nothing got deleted from the original drive (where you first played MC, and created save files). Synching doesn't delete, though it can replace files with newer versions. Since I always play on the same console, all my saves are always on my local drive, whether I'm online or off. Just last night, MC couldn't sync, and gave me the option to "use this app offline", which I did. All my saves were there. If your experience is different, please don't lash at me about it. That helps no one.
So... is this issue with worlds being unplayable happening only if you play on additional consoles or if you delete your profile from the console (can't see why anyone would, in the first place) and then put it back on the console?
What if you can't sync one day, then is it possible to load the game if you go offline? Still, I must admit it sucks to never be able to play online again, since you'd never be getting any more updates.
And does it make a difference wether you downloaded the game or play from a disc? Or if you transfered your world from Xbox360, maybe increased the map size? What if you played from a disc on Xbox360 and continue the same transfered map on Xbox One on a downloaded versjon of the game? Does any of these points make it more reliable to encounter these syncing issues?
In the meantime I see no other choice than to continue on Xbox360, where I always experience eating slower than normal and having to shoot at least 5 arrows to kill creepers. But on the other hand, on 360 you always see the outline of the block you're pointing to...
There are multiple threads discussing the matter along with multiple bug threads on the Bug tracker.

Exactly right ....How Long are they going to be "investigating " this for? 4J even though this "technically" isn't on your side of the fence. This is still your problem. You guys should be ALL OVER MicroSoft pressing them on this issue! you guys are the supposed care takers of Console Minecraft, IF YOU DONT GET THEM TO FIX THIS THEN WHO WILL? This is very disturbing, That we cant even confidently play our own world without the threat of permanently loosing our IRREPLACEABLE Time and Hardwork... My God man, when you look at the big picture of how things are for all of us poor console players its just downright sad!:(

He just said it's not his side of the issue, Microsoft has to fix it. If 4j tried to harrass Microsoft like you harass 4j, nothing would end up happening. Learn some tact, then try to approac this as a reasonable person.

Ive got news for you pal but your the one that needs to learn some tact. the sad truth of todays world is if you don't speak up then people are not going to care or know to help you. And i am not saying to call them and yell at them like belligerent idiots.
How about something along the lines of "Hey this problem that is taking you FOREVER to fix is Ruining our customers hard work and there ability to enjoy our game. What exactly are you guys doing to resolve this issue? What can we tell our customers so they can feel better that something is ACTUALLY being done to resolve this problem?" Its called Sticking up for your customers and there is nothing wrong with that.
I am a service director of a boating facility in CHI, IL. I deal with many subcontractors that handle some of our overflow work. And in one particular situation i had a company holding up me returning a boat to his customer . He said they were busy but he could squeeze it in and get it done inside of 4 days. 4 days later it still was not done, so i called up there and politely asked for the status. Was told no more than 2 more days for sure. And guess what 2 more days came and went. So this time i called him back and explained to him: That he was ruining my reputation by making me look like i cant deliver on a promised date. That this particular deal was worth over $15,000 and if he screws it up for me i'm sending all of my business from now on to his competitor. I didn't yell or get irate, i explained to him the damage this was causing my company. And what do you know? by the end of that same business day i get a phone call saying he put more man power on it and it was ready for return...
This is a business after all, both 4J and Microsoft and it doesn't have to be personal. But i would be damned to sit around as 4J and let Microsoft put 1 or 2 new interns on figuring out the problem because they had commitments already elsewhere. In this world if you don't stand up for yourself or your product then no one else certainly will. apparently you never heard the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Stand there and do nothing and thats exactly what you will get. Its already been over a year....how much longer should it take for a problem this serious?
