I have been gathering materials for a blaze xp farm in survival mode for a little while. All I have to do is get sticky pistons, which require slimes(obviously). I've been in a swamp biome for a few minecraft days, and I have yet to see any slimes. I previously had torches down, and I thought this might interfere with spawning, so I took them away. The thing I am confused about is the spawning: do they only spawn under a full moon, or is it under a NON-full moon?? I've been on hard mode the entire time. Also, is it possible for the slimes to spawn during the day?

They spawn only under a full moon from what I understand, and slimes spawn regardless of the light level, so your torches should not affect the spawn. I recommend you find a slime chunk underground as its a much more efficient method of slime collection once you set it up. I recently tunneled out a slime chunk for myself and I go back periodically to clean it out, (I have yet to automate it) and the place is packet with slimes. I Will easily get a full stack on each check, and they drop a lot of exp orbs. If you need help finding a slime chunk on your world, Google *Minecraft slime finder,* and input your world seed into the chunk finding program.
Note: I have heard from some people that the chunk finders you Google are sometimes not necessarily accurate, but I have only heard this a few times and it was spot on when I did three slime chunks on my world.
I was actually more concerned with the torch blocks not being counted as air blocks. I have flattened an entire island in a swamp biome, and I'm currently Hoping for the best. I want to have this blaze farm since I already have an iron golem farm, an auto sugar cane farm, wheat/carrot farm, villager breeder, exp mob spawner, and so on. Thanks for the reply! I might have to resort to digging out the large spawning area under ground, which is exactly what I didn't look forward to.
Slimes will spawn most often during full moons, and I think that they can spawn atop of any blocks. You'll also want to make sure that your swamp is actually a swamp, since the biomes changed a while back. Swamp grass is a dark bluish green.
Could you check out my Minecraft I'm new at it and just use my name on here that's my tag thank you I'll be on for a few more minutes waiting if not come back tomorrow at ten or 11 OK I'll. Be there
Above ground spawning of slimes is different from slime chunk spawning.
Underground there is no light level needed. Above ground they obey the rules of a regular mob.
the no moon is no slimes, but from the phase after to a full moon the spawning gets more. Full moon being the most liable spawning. Since they require the same light level as other hostile mobs, you will get a mix most of the time. The ratio will go up during a full moon, and most likely you will run across them in those hours of the night.
Slime chunks are still probably the best to farm them though, as they don't have light requirements like the surface ones do. Don't know if the moon affects the slime chunk spawned ones... As I have not made a slime farm since the change. Have ran into slimes on the surface during a full moon though.:)

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
In swamps, slimes may spawn at night between the heights of 50 and 70 provided the light level is 7 or less. They spawn most often on a full moon, and never on a new moon.
i know slimes only spawn before morning comes, keep watching and be around 20 blocks away from them[or more] or they dont spawn, you dont sleep in bed though or they will not spawn, you should be in normal difficulty.;) goodluck happy hunting!

Thanks for all of the replies! I was able to retrieve 34 slime balls from my little area, and that's more than enough for what I'm doing.
Hope this helps!

yes blaze spawner stopped working after i made mine..and i start killing the random mobs in the nether instead lol.
Hmm... My blaze spawned has been completed now and it's working so far.. I just need to add some aesthetics and stuff. I do hope it continues to work!
But that's cheating. We'd like to do things without creative.
