Before i start this thread please note im very new to Minecraft for those curious. Anyways im trying to build a animal pen i can get them in but they somehow escape. My first attempt i carved two blocks down(from ground level) and put a fence around the area with fence door on each side.. i managed to get a handful of cows in there breed them etc etc... but they started escaping. i then trashed that pen thinking it was wall glitch or something and started another pen. i made this one out of cobblestone at ground level 2 blocks high and a fence atop the wall. the only entrance was a double door and yet they still escaped... anybody know what im doing wrong? again im a noob to minecraft so be nice lol
They may not be escaping, but despawning when you move a distance away from the pen. Are you actually seeing them escape, or just missing them when you go back?

How big are these pens? There's a slight issue at the moment in Minecraft with animals despawning in large areas. If your pen is less than 20 by 20 then you should be fine. I tend to use around a 5 by 5 pen. You still might have issues, but hopefully not near as many.
As for the pen's design, users have noted that digging down two blocks and putting a fence on top seem to keep the animals in fairly well.
Hopefully this solve your issues. Welcome to the forums!
