Sorry I wasn't clear it seems. There was no lava. I poured lava into a mold and then poured water over it.
However, when you poured the lava and before you poured the water, the lava may have turned another air block around you into a fire block that may have been still burning when you walking into it. It's rare that happens, but still a possibility.

No.
You're not getting it. You're saying it's a known factor and I'm telling you it isn't.
I made obsidian, I continued to do what I was doing, and found I made the obsidian too long. I went got my diamond pickaxe and started to destroy the block. This is HOURS after the lava was LONG gone. The spot I was standing in had gravel in it that had been removed AFTER THE LAVA WAS GONE FOR HOURS.
This is NOT THE FIRE ISSUE WITH LAVA. It is something DIFFERENT.
In multiplayer, when you are at someone else's server and you throw an enderpearl in the air and exit the game before it lands it will cause their Xbox to freeze.

Do you know for a fact that there was no lava for up to four blocks underneath you?

YES I do. Again, I'm telling you this is NOT what you think it is.
Try this cause a friend of mine had issues before and it worked for him.
