Nothing biologically adds up for a pig or a cow to allow for them to be aquatic in real life. Let the squids and silverfish be the swimmers and being the majority of the sea, not farm animals.
I agree with this, except for silverfish. They would probably only swim if they absolutely had to.
I personally think they're much more intimidating in real life.
Thanks for the chills and extra 10 minutes of trying to sleep tonight
Haha nah I'm only joking, I saw a couple pictures of them when I googled them after you replied to my first post and they are horrendous creatures!
They almost look like they would beat earwigs on the nasty factor!!

BLEGH! Good thing I don't have to deal with those on a daily basis like I do the Earwigs! They're such ninja's and come out of no where... Thank god it's winter and their done for now.

they are a sub family of your basic army ants... though one of the African variety (given a large enough colony) can actually strip down an elephant carcass in about 24 hours, now ain't THAT scary?

You both lose...
The caterpillar is actually harmless, most likely. I imagine the horn things are an aesthetic effect to ward off predators. But good god is that thing horrifying... It looks like some sort of demonic alien creature.

No dude, I want one of those... O.o
That caterpillar is way too cool!!
I would name him.... Zim :b
edit: LOL at the top comment.

I have been playing survival on my Island seed and am very annoyed that all the animals seem to be five miles out at sea.
I find it strange that the animals can swim forever without getting tired and eventually drown.
I think it would be beneficial if animals would simply lose the ability to swim. This way they drown and can then respawn on the land.
This would save us from having to brave the deep blue sea to get wool and it would make worlds more aesthetically pleasing as you no longer see random cows out in the middle of the ocean.
i actually like seeing animals in the middle of the sea

I disagree. Animals barely respawn now, and after the next patch they won't respawn, so if animals got tired and drowned on a mostly ocean map, you'd have no animals. Also your character can swim indefinitely, unless you are on hard mode.
If after the next patch animals don't respawn dose that mean it would be possible to kill all the animals in your world and if it was possible dose that mean the only way to get more animals is by breeding them????
I personally am getting fed up with the lack of chickens.
With regards to the mobs that like to take a dip, ie, all of them at the moment, there is one thing I don't understand: When you are 30+ blocks away from them, they freeze/dont move. So if they are in the sea, surely the should sink and drown? I know they don't move, cause I've seen them freeze, then come back to life when I've gotten close.
Personally loving the amount of animals since the patch, but hating the less amount of creepers/skeletons etc that are now not forming due to there being too many passive mobs.
Passive mobs going underground/taking a dip, is a bug that needs to be fixed as a priority in the next TU, imo. I can live with the other minor bugs atm.

This is an assumption (because it could be very different when the next update comes) but, animals should respawn rarely, just like they did before the 1.8.2 bug fix.
I fenced my island and am turning it into a giant animal trap!
Hopefully that will work. I find that the fenced in animals tend to eventually just respawn outside the fences when I save and exit and then later re-enter the game. I've even tried completely independent and contained pens (i.e. fences that are 2 high, completely square, no gates, and not connected to any other blocks).

I don't believe I've ever encountered a silverfish.
Go to a fortress and start mining the stone bricks, eventually you'll get some silverfish
Worth it?
You'll get stone, mossy stone, and cracked stone bricks?
But otherwise, meh, silverfish arent that worthy of finding a stronghold
