i was wondering what the odds actually are of having a wool construction getting hit by lightning. i have this massive fortress that is mainly made up of wool. i am worried about this since the load tip says wool burn when hit by it, and that woud pretty much destroy my fortress
A shield wouldn't be useful at all. Lightning can pass through things to hit the ground. You shouldn't really worry about lightning setting anything on fire because it rains while lightning is going so the rain puts the fire out almost immediately.

Unless you're in the desert! and possibly snow. does snow put out fire too?

I doubt it does. Besides, I'm pretty sure lightning only hits where it rains. Even though you can see lightning and hear thunder in a snow biome, I don't think lightning can hit in a snow biome. Same goes for deserts.

woud it be wise to make a glass shield above it? or is it a waste of time?
Nope.
