I ask because I have 3 Xboxes in my home. I also have the family gold plan for me, my wife and my two oldest kids. My youngest daughter only has a silver membership and I really don't want to have to pay for a separate gold for her just so my household of 5 can play together...
I don't think it will have lan support. Your best method of having your family play together in one "server" is 1 on each individual console, while 2 out of the 3 playing on an individual console will have to play split-screen with 2 of your kids. One of the great things about this version is the many combinations that you can use to play online.

This method would still require my youngest to either a) get a gold membership or play as a guest, with gonna be very very very very VERY VERY VERY upsetting to her

They did say you could system link "LAN", 2 boxes with 4 players per box (up to 8 players total). So Id assume any combo of boxes and players up to 8.
This will probably never be directly answerd till the game is out and people experement.Based on what info they have given us though it should work in theory.
The split screen doesn't bother us, we play split screen with their cousins on Total Miner all the time since Total Miner supports LAN. I just want my wife, three kids and I to be able to play together with our regular profiles, and I don't want to have to upgrade my youngest daughter's account JUST for Minecraft...
No, but if the game does not support LAN you will need a gold membership to play on multiple systems together in the same house. Kind of like since Transformers: War for Cybertron does not support LAN, my son and I both need to have gold to play together in the campaign on separate systems even though we are both in the living room together...

sadly many many games are not using lan anymore, so while minecraft is likely to folow this trend, we can only hope that LAN is supported

Jyggalag's forces are gathering in the Fringe...And I HATE IT when people gather forces in my Fringe!
What sucks about the games that do not support LAN is that once online support for said game dies, the multiplayer component dies with it. Try and imagine no LAN support for Halo 1 or 2 or even Conker's Bad Fur Day. I wouldn't be able to pull theses games out and enjoy me some LAN parties with friends and family...

Of course you can, but only when your xbox is running Minecraft, not some other game, as with all console games.
Ah, of course. How did I forget that part?
