When you find out about the shady deal Petra is going to make with Ivor, is it possible to actually GET the diamond? I chose to "hold down the fort" and with a few changes of dialogue it didn't change and they got the lapis. However, on the official trailer for episode one, it shows Ivor handing them the diamond. So I'm 90% positive it is possible. Is there some route in dialogue I should be taking? Because I'm sure the diamond would be useful later on, perhaps for a diamond sword in a future chapter.
I doubt it, as getting the diamond from the trade would prevent them from chasing after Ivor, to enter his secret lair, to find out that he is build a Wither.
It's one of those scripted events that can't change.
Another one is when you are fighting off the Wither Storm in front of the Nether Portal. There is one point where you run back to save Petra and the game makes you think you can quickly smack that tentacle to save her, but you can't. I've used a mouse and keyboard at the sequence with extremely high sensitivity, lined it up and mashed LMB but it didn't connect. Another scripted event to kick you in the nether to move the story along.
I understand how scripted events are a tool used for story progression, and that would be fine in a virtual novel. But in an interactive story-driven video game, I hate them. It takes agency away from the player, and is a very cheep cop-out.

There are other ways to progress the story.
Thanks for the response. Even if it is appearant there will be in later chapters some more player options, I am kind of dissapointed in the lack of current choices. I would have liked to be all epic and say "That's a command block" instead of "I think it's some sort of machine" or prevent Axel from snatching the potion. And I tried over and over again to get that tentacle without success. XD
Hopefully it will get SOMEWHAT better and there will be more than just Ellegard/Magnus decisisons.
Also, I can now confirm you can't. I tried all dialogue options by resetting th game. And....yeah.
I think the trailer was actually trying to deceive the players into thinking that Ivor would actually give a diamond. In other words, as an element of surprise.
You won't get the diamond. Think of how the story would plan out anyways. There would also be no use for the diamond.

Getting the lapis instead of the diamond causes a chain reaction leading to Ivor's basement, the Wither Storm, and the entire story of the game. Also, you wouldn't have had to chase Ivor into the hall, where Gabriel was, (spoiler alert) so if you had gotten the diamond you would've never gotten Gabriel on your team, so you couldn't reassemble the Order, and get the Formidi-Bomb, and kill the Wither Storm, and yeah...
I know it would be possible to script a whole different storyline depending on if you had gotten the diamond, but it would've taken a long time. So we would probably only be up to episode 2 by now if that was the way.
But then again no matter what, Ivor will get the Wither Skull, leading to the creation of the Wither Storm and etc.
I really hope I just brought up a new idea, because if I didn't I necroposted and I'm really sorry and I'm an evil person and pLeAsE uNdErStAnD mE...

I see what you mean here. Personally, I think they could've made it so the others convinced Petra that they needed to find out what was going on here, and take it from there. Not a whole different storyline, just some different dialogue.

Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.

If Ivor was so busy, how did he even manage to get lapis? Lapis is harder to find than diamonds.
