This is my first time playing Minecraft, had no idea I would get hooked!
I had a few questions...
1. Can you save your inventory some way? In Terraria anything in my inventory follows me around, here I keep showing up in new games with absolutely nothing :/
2. Is there an easy way to get my map back after I died? This is one item I feel you should never drop upon death but maybe there is a reasoning behind this?
3. Can you pick up a boat after you put it into the water? Also can you pick up say a chicken and bring it back to a coop?
I have played a dangerous amount of hours of Minecraft since it launched on PS3, but can't seem to figure these things out. Any help would be appreciated guys and thank you for your time.
Glad you like it, welcome to the forum.
1- Nope. A new game is a brand new game.
2- Yes and no. I think your inventory items stay where you died for about 5 minutes. You'll be re-spawned and if you can make it back to where you died in time, great. If not, they're gone forever.
3- No on the boats- but you can break it with a tool or your hand and get a boat back (if it 'busts' all you get is planks and sticks). No on picking up the chickens- but you can get them to follow you with wheat.

I believe it's wheat seeds for the chickens, wheat for the cows and pigs, and bones for the wolves.
1. Inventories are saved per world.
2. In the PC version you don't even get a map at the beginning, and honestly the first thing I did when I started the PS3 version was find some lava and toss the map in there, if I want a map I'll make my own. Anyways, I'm not sure if you can do it on the PS3 version, but what you do with maps is you create a new blank map (you need to create a compass and some paper) and then with the blank map and your desired map in the inventory you create a copy. If you're going to use maps to get around, it's a good idea to make a bunch of copies and keep them in a chest at spawn in case you lose one while adventuring. Though honestly I find adventuring simpler and more thrilling by simply caring a compass around (the needle always points towards the original spawn).
3. You'd have to break the boat and pick up the drops. As for chickens, and animals in general, you can lure them with various food. For a chicken, have seeds in your hand and it will follow.
