I don't know if you realized but yes, the Minecraft one the Nintendo Switch is called Bedrock Minecraft, and the one on the pc is called Java Minecraft. They are two different ones.
If you have the Xbox One or Switch Edition you should be able to upgrade for free for something called 'Minecraft' which is what the community calls 'Minecraft Bedrock'. It's basically the future updates and the 'crossplay' update that allows for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, IOS/Android, and Windows 10 (I think that's all of them, yes PS4 and a few others aren't counted, and all other consoles are legacy and not supported) fall under the Bedrock banner.
However Java Edition which is for Windows, Mac & Linux is not connected to Bedrock or Console versions in anyway, where it be servers, mods, texture packs, skins and so on, if they are for Java, they are only for Java not Bedrock.
This can be confusing so I don't blame you for not knowing. But I'd recommend you get the upgrade if you don't already, you should have access to your skin, texture and mash up packs I believe, it's just that unlike the few that 4J studios made there is a marketplace now where players create all the skins, worlds, texture packs, behaviour packs (basically an early Bedrock modding API but it's more for IOS/Android and Windows 10 then Xbox and Switch from what I've come across) content and get a cut of the money.
I'd say watch a few Java versus Bedrock videos if you want but this is what I've come across from talk and looking between them. You could also find more on the Minecraft wiki if you want. https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki
I have Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition, can I use that to download and play on PC? Or do I have to purchase Minecraft AGAIN?
Hey platinumlove,
