I found the first clear case of modified cave generation in my world (aside from the changes I made to the water check code so they go around/under bodies of water instead of simply dead-ending, most obvious in ravines, and making sand patches generate sandstone over air so they don't collapse):
Looking at the main chamber:
Looking from one end to the other from both ends, the second was taken from the "dark" area to the right of the center in the first (it looks dark due to fog obscuring it, if it were day it'd be white):
Looking down from the top of the main chamber, 28 blocks up, 30 blocks total height (not the maximum as I pillared up from a ridge in the middle and the ceiling went higher, perhaps as much as 40 blocks at the highest spot):
By "modified cave generation", I added in extra caves with a much larger size variation to vanilla 1.6.4 cave generation, with about one extra cave every 150 chunks, most of them no larger than regular vanilla caves, which is about 2% more caves overall (there are an average of 0.325 caves per chunk in a pre-1.7 world, 0.25 in 1.7+ with the biggest differences in the size/density of cave systems, down from 4.875, max 39 caves/system to 1.75, max 14). The largest of these caves can get up to 80 blocks wide and 336 blocks long, which are triple the maximum sizes in vanilla, although those sizes are very rare due to the distribution.
I also added in rare, large cave systems on average once every 7,500 chunks, similar to the biggest cave system I found in the world (as I mentioned in a previous post, the one at -800, -1050; this map showing the lower 20 layers of my world gives you an idea of its size), otherwise so extremely rare I've ever seen only one cave system like it in vanilla, across multiple seeds, even using some code I wrote to search for big cave systems, though I did find cave systems/complexes even larger overall (cave systems like this are truly impossible in 1.7+; with a maximum of only 14 caves per cave system and about 150 caves in that cave system you'd need 11 maximum-size cave systems, which have a probability of only 15^3 (size ranges from 0-14, 15 sizes, this is passed through three randomizers which cuts the average in half each time) or 1-in-3,375 each; by comparison, in 1.6.4 there is a 1-in-8 chance of a cave system with 20-39 caves; as it is, it is made up of six main cave systems with 20-26 caves each plus several smaller cave systems).
I also made 1 in 10 ravines have a larger size range as well (no extra ravines, just existing ones; with one ravine every 50 chunks this is one modified ravine every 500 chunks), up to twice as wide and three times longer (of note, ravines are basically just caves modified to be deeper with patterned walls and less curvature), again averaging close to normal (here's an example of one from a test world; I also made the walls more varied, which is easy to see in ravines crossing old-new chunks).
By only changing a few caves/ravines this mostly prevents chunk walls due to changed generation, with a relatively low chance of any modified ones cutting off at chunk boundaries, rather similar to what I did to get biomes to smoothly transition (although up to half of mineshafts will be cut off at new chunks since I made them less common due to them being too common prior to 1.7 more than 80 chunks away from 0, 0; this isn't so noticeable though due to their layout and the chance is flat across the world so they are actually only rarer past 40 chunks, leveling off at that point).
Made this huge map recently. turned the world into a server with my friends. If I can get enough of my friends on it I might divide the map evenly and we will have our own sections.
The map itself consists of 9x4 Zoom step 3, 1:8 scale maps. or just regular map size. Covers an area of 36864 metres / blocks. more or less the size of the xbox one edition. took about 3 days according to the statistics of my launcher, in actuality it took a little less then a month because im lazy. I plan on expanding it once more across the top for my friend to see if we can find the packed ice biome or a mesa.
I noticed that my village at my base no longer had an Apiarist, so I decided to make a Mystcraft Age that would have villages in it. I wanted to make it a plains biome, but found I was missing that page from my biomes notebook. So off to Age 80 I went, having had good luck there earlier with finding the desert page. I started a 3000x3000 grid search with NEI in Creative mode so I could cover long distances and fly continuously instead of relying on my Gravi-Suit Chestplate. I search several libraries, both last night and tonight,. but had no success until I searched one I had found when searching for the desert page. In it on one of the lecterns was a plains page.
I then headed back to the Overworld and made an Age using that page and others. I made it an eternal day age, but forgot to specify weather type. As a result I got a snowy plains biome and had to redo it. This time I got what I wanted. This age has a village near where I spawned there, and there are Thaumcraft Barrow Hills, Greatwood and Silverwood trees. It is going to be a good place to go if I want to create a pure Aura node as I currently have only 3 saplings. The village had an Apiarist in it, who was trading Parched Combs for wheat. There were some farms in the village with enough fully grown plants to get 9 wheat initially. There was also a Thaumcraft priest here, and his church had some good loot in a chest. I got a Thaumium ingot, a couple Knowledge Fragments, some glass bottles and a skeleton skull (the normal kind, not a Wither one).
Back in my base after exploring that age a while I found another skeleton had spawned behind my Blulectric Alloy Furnaces. I decided to deal with the problem once and for all and dug out a single block hole on which I placed a torch, and ran the blue alloy wire along the ceiling. I also had some bees I brought back with me from the age. Two of these were Tropical Queens, which I placed in my Apiarist's Chest for now. I will not be able to use them for regular breeding of that species to obtain Silky Combs, as bees found in villages are unstable and tend to mutate into different species after a few life cycles.
Main World Started: Alpha 1.2 Resource Pack: Painterly Synopsis: Home built inside a mountain
.
Starting a big project with my church across the ocean from my home. Originally the plan was just to double-height it, as I couldn't expand it behind or to the side of it because of the big mountain. I'm currently boxing round said mountain and will e cavate it inside once I've filled the sides in. It will allow for proper sized stain glass windows.
As you can see - big project and I have a small birch tree farm on the top. It will effectively turn it from a church into a cathedral, eventually the old church will be demolished. All saplings are planted at different times so I always have one tree on the grow before the rest. This so far was all done this morning when I was a bit delirious with flu.

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?"
There is a hill where I am standing, the second photo is on top of a tree that I planted on top of the hill. I attached a screenshot looking towards the hill I am on.
I don't use mods (other than texture packs) nor cheats. Playing on survival hard.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
