started a new world for 1.8. Now I'm trying to solve the mystery of the disappearing villagers. I saw one villager push another into a wall and suffucate it. I also had a farmer who wouldn't farm, and I swear I had a blacksmith pick and replant some potatoes.
Then today while branch mining at Y=15 (i'm almost done with this level) I heard a lot of skeletons. I found a spawner down at lava level, with no lava nearby. I had about 5 skeletons to deal with then I got the spawner itself, which was covered in gravel. The loot was mostly mundane, some ingots, redstone, a saddle and a bucket, plus a crowbar. But I also found a Desert Acacia sapling and a Sequoia sapling. The latter is a 2x2 tree and requires 4 saplings to grow. This was my 4th one.
Why are you mining at y=15? I can only assume you aren't looking for diamonds because y=15 is the maximum height they generate at, and are very rare (mind the log scale; at y=15 they are only about 1/10 as common as y=5-12) on that level since veins only generate down from their start, meaning lower layers have veins coming in from higher layers but not vice-versa (otherwise, the distribution is uniform, as seen with emerald ore, as it is only single blocks; bedrock cuts off the lower end of the range of other ores, with ocean reducing iron/coal around y=40, otherwise the same % of stone up to near their respective maximums).
As I showed my Amplified Extreme Island Survival home (AEIS?), in the "Show your homes" thread I did a little more.
Premise:
The original idea was simply to start a home on an amplified world, however, when I spawned - it was on an island mountain. I kept it and it became a survival island type of challenge but I added a twist.. I have built so many homes in a mountain, if I did it again it just wouldn't be fun. So I decided this:- I can build on the mountain, but I cannot build inside it. This means once the main home is built - if I want a fully functioning world, any rooms like storage, enchantment rooms, farms would have to be build of the mountains, on platforms or something. It also makes going adventuring across seas to get materials challenging.
Previously:
So I did a bit yesterday and the plan was to start roofing the house and make it weather secure, I got somewhat distracted however..
I ended up cooking a stack of cobble to make more stone-brick stairs for a second alternate set of stairs down the other side of the mountain:
Unfortunately, a little way from the top of the stairs (It had been done through the night), was a creeper. I backed away but he blew anyway - so now I have to fix the hole in the path and make more coarse dirt. You'll also notice the little balcony on the stair landing down to a mine.. Originally there was dirt across there which I removed because it looked funny, forgetting it would expose the landing down to the mine. Was gonna be a stained glass window but then I'd have to put block on top and try to make it look natural. Besides which, after doing 1 row - I kinda liked the balcony look.
On top of my house I was intrigued by this formation in the distance:
After hopping on a boat, (This is where I got distracted!) I went over there but it was nothing extra-ordinary. I went right round it then headed staight on the far side to see what else would generate in this amplified and got more beauty:
I almost died because of a chunk that failed to load but somehow managed to survive. No sooner had I got back than I was off again. I thought I was headed towards the other island I originally imported the trees from but I had gone the wrong way; heading towards a stone beach instead. Within distance I thought my eyes were deceiving me and I saw lights under the sea. An exposed cave perhaps? Something was telling me it was something else however and I had a feeling what..
You probablly know what I'm thinking..
When I thought I was near enough I swan towards it, but it was further back than I thought, so I went back to get my boat and get nearer; and I was right. It is one of the new water monuments. I guess my destiny is set out and pushed towards a certain direction!
As soon as I roof the house and make it secure, I guess I will be building a science/brewing lab platform off the side of the mountain! I've a long way to go before I'm ready to go down there of course, but it looks like that's where I'm headed eventually. I also went mining (After getting the sand to do that glass balcony) and initially went down for more coal. I needed up stating to do a mine off the main corridor and something was guiding me to this one spot. I reached a section of granite in the wall 5 blocks long, perfect for whacking a mine corridor dead in the center.
I didn't get much - bit of gold but I did eventually come out into a cave system... right by a spider dungeon! I swear it was fate guiding me to mine in that spot. There was 2 bread in here too, but I really, really needed the health!:
Since the beginning there's been a horse off the island just floating in the water - and I already have a golden apple. (When you have gold to waste!) All I still need though is slime balls to make a lead and to safety. I know I can't exactly ride him on a tiny island, so I guess I'll just save him and keep him as a pet. I took pity on him the moment I saw him when I began this world.
Might do some more later today, as the save is still in my saves folder.
EDIT: Spoilers are being temperamental, so I've had to show all picstures.

The main reason is that it is a multi-level branch mine which I started a long time ago (over a year) in this world. I started it out at Y=51, and worked my way down. It is my largest mine at 200x201 blocks, with side tunnels every 20 blocks. To aid in mining such a large area I went with IC2 powered tools, a diamond drill and mining laser. To allow longer mining, I made a lappack, which stores 300,000 EU. Later I upgraded this to the advanced lappack and then the ultimate version, and once I had enough UU Matter made, I upgraded that to a Gravity Suit. It allows flight and can store 10,000,000 EU, and can thus power any tools that use EU. With the standard lappack, I was only able to mine out 4 tunnels before my tools ran completely out of energy; with the Gravi-Suit Chestplate I can mine much longer.
To cope with the massive amounts of cobblestone and some other blocks I did not want, I had to upgrade my storage in my base to an Applied Energistics system. Then I set up two systems using Buildcraft Gates, RedPower2 Filters and a Retriever, and some Timers from RP2. Each system is connected to an Ender Chest (mod item, not the vanilla one) and is also linked to an Ender Pouch. Into one pouch goes all the cobblestone, dirt, gravel and Xycraft Quartz to be recycled and then turned into UU Matter in my Mass Fab, while everything else goes into a different pouch to either go right into my AE system or get sorted into a gold chest for later processing. The latter is where most ore blocks go. I have a diamond transport pipe set to send 9 ore types (iron, gold, copper, tin, silver, lead, ferrous, monazit, and cinnabar) directly into the chest, with aluminum ore going into the AE system to be smelted later.
Anyway on to what I have done recently. I finished layer 15 of the branch mine and am now on layer 12. This puts the start of the lava at floor level. I had been bringing cans with me to collect some of it, but found two stacks of them were getting quickly filled, so I gave up on this after a while and just started keeping a water bucket on my hotbar to turn any lava I encountered into obsidian. This is the final level of the mine, and once I get done I am thinking of setting a Buildcraft Quarry up on the surface to get anything I missed.
I had to stop my Steve's Carts tree farm as I had around 14,000 wood in my AE system, and another 17,000 in a barrel.
I also set up the first of many Extra Bees machines, the Genepool. At this point it is all I can do as I haven;t gotten any Imperial Bees to make Royal Jelly (used in the Serum Vials) yet.
This was over the last four times I played (a "diamond" Ender chest is an Ender chest, separate from regular ones, I made with double chest capacity, intended to be used to transport items long distances; mining the chest (taking 4x longer than obsidian), even with Silk Touch, only returns the obsidian and diamonds used to make it (discouraging trying to use it as a backpack, a regular Ender chest is plenty since I've stopped using Fortune, which triples the amount of coal I'd otherwise get, after what I use); using this, along with a regular Ender chest and my inventory, I can transport up to 117 stacks of items at a time back to my main base):
I also got a lot of other stuff such as 7 stacks of mossy cobblestone, 3 stacks of rails (from just a small mineshaft) and some chest loot, stored in a separate double chest until I return to my main base.
Not only that, I've made over 100,000 torches:
(I enabled the stats for monster spawners so it tracks how many I've mined)
(note that I've actually used only two pickaxes for most of that mining; since I stopped using Fortune I've been repairing it with new pickaxes instead of diamonds, which is also 4x more efficient, enabling around 6,000 uses between repairs, when repaired just as the durability bar becomes empty, with around 240 uses left; because of this, I did not include my amethyst tools mod in this version, which is actually less efficient despite 3x the durability since that only gives about 4,600 uses between repairs, though each repair is only 25% at a time so there is less need to watch the durability)
Here are updated maps of my world; the area I've most recently explored is the arc near the bottom center; it also appears that there is a fairly large cave system where I last left off based on what I've seen of it so far (at -800, 780, seed -123775873255737467 in 1.6.4):
Also of note, I've found an oddity with my world - it has at least four strongholds, with the fourth one about 200 blocks to the west of a another one; this is due to the modifications I made to world generation, which changes to locations of strongholds (a similar effect can happen when upgrading to a new version, including a conjoined "super" stronghold with two End portals). In addition, I've found six of the biomes I added so far; Tropical Swamp, Bushlands, Mixed Forest, Mega Forest, Mega Tree Plains, and Spruce Tree Hills (the last is a technical biome in the preceding), in that order, and despite the new biomes I've not found any chunk walls; the only possible glitch I've found is in the stronghold, which was rather small and located close enough to the other one that chunks were previously generated up to about where it is located (it does have an End portal; this is one way it can fail to generate).
Here's a full-size closeup of the area I've explored; you can see a secondary base I built near the center, as well as multiple pillars with torches that I use to mark exits so I can easily find them when returning, including one in the ocean):
From left to right you can see a Tropical Swamp (I'd previously found another one on the other side of the world), Mega Forest, Mixed Forest, Bushlands, and on the other side of the ocean Mega Tree Plains and Spruce Tree Hills.
how did you do the ore mined setup thing its awesome
That's a mod I made myself; I added a class that keeps track of how many times certain blocks were mined, then the counts are displayed in the inventory screen (only the one shown when pressing E and only in Survival); similarly, I get the coordinates and player score for display (the latter can normally only be seen on death). I even made it so that mob kills are broken down by mob, as you can see in this post I made earlier (some uncommon mobs, passive mobs, and Nether mobs aren't shown or counted). This only counts from the time you loaded a world; opening another world or quitting the game will reset it.

It's the first link in my signature - but that is a complete mod, more like a modpack than a single mod with how many different things it changes, and it is only for 1.6.4.
I took a break from branch mining, having only about 24 tunnels left to go on the lowest level to go to the Nether and kill some Wither Skeletons as I wanted to get a Nether Star and build a Beacon at my wizard tower in Age 80.
But before doing that I was in my base and heard a zombie nearby. I determined that he was in the mineshaft complex near the base and went exploring there. I found a few areas I had not lit up yet, and some ore I had not mined (mainly copper and iron with a little bit of tin), but did not find that zombie. I did find another one, a normal spider, and a creeper. The last of these was on a narrow ledge across from me, and rather than path around to me, he came straight at me only to fall into the cave just below. I activated my Nanosaber and one-hit him before he could do anything. I kind of got lost in the caves nearby, but found my way back to my base after a bit.
I am currently in the Nether camped out in front of the skeleton spawner I put there, standing in the 2x1 corridor out of reach of the Wither Skeletons. I just now got my 3rd skull from them while using my diamond sword with Smite V and Looting III on it. I am going to stay a while and get some more skulls, then look at setting up a Wither battle arena using MFFS. Also it will be time to make my first pair of Tesseracts, those being Energy Tesseracts.
Main World Started: Alpha 1.2 Resource Pack: Painterly Synopsis: Home built inside a mountain.
On my main world I've gone back to Mount DOOOOoooom (Overseas from my main home) again and continues work. Originally the idea was to just make the exterior walls go from 1 block width to 3 to give them depth, but it has expanded since. At the front the exterior walls are very square-ish so I've added some round towers in the corners to break it up, from there I could make the walls the 3 block width I intended. I've also been adding a wish-bone shaped colums all around the exterior walls for decoration topped with a redstone block. (Not sure how I feel about the redstone block yet though.)
Before and after pics:
Also in the back courtyard, I removed a mount of dirt that was as high as half-way up the walls where the torches are:
Not sure what else I can add to a court yard? It's a fort, it's not meant to be pretty but it's very bare after clearing the grass mound.
1.8 base
I've cleared more of the inside of the mountain - now we're getting somewhere! Can even see the immediate farm on this side now from the entrance way, so I added a glass separation:
CreatureCraft! (Modded 1.7.2 - Mo'Creatures/Modded.)
I haven't really done any more to the glass tower coming out of the ground, though it is getting higher, Instead In the rest of the home (Underground), I had to address a few immediate things. The bed, which was in a very small nook of a cave has been moved to a freshly dug out section, although it's just a dug out corridor at the moment and still has it's stone walls, so isn't worth showing. I filled the nook in and had to address the immediate storage problem, I need a storage room now, getting too many items.
Down one of the many branching caves, there is a nice open spot.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
I have been turning this into the bare bones of a storage room:
I also found another small water pool which will become an indoor farm:
Back at the main entrance however I have been planting trees down below the stairs and I have a new addition to the family - Blotch!
*May have used a bit of bonemeal to speed up the tree growing process. XD

I stayed in the Nether until I got 9 skulls, then went back to my base.
Once there I started digging out the battle arena for the Wither, making it the same size as the one in World 2, 11x13 with a 5x7 floor in the near center where I would eventually locate the force field.
It is close enough to the base that I would not need to use Energy Tesseracts to power the Force Extractor. Instead I can run Redstone Energy Conduit from my power room to the arena. I would only need about half a stack of them. Why waste Ender Pearls when I have plenty of Redstone and the nearest power conduit is quite close? In this case it is only 5 blocks below and 25 blocks east of it.
While I was starting to clear out the tunnel to the arena area I heard a skeleton inside my base, and rather close at that. He had spawned behind my Blulectric Alloy Furnaces in my RedPower2 room, in a block that was only cobblestone. The block above it was not empty space, but rather some cabling to one of the furnaces. I am wary of mob noises inside my walls like this, as they have on occasion glitched through them and ended up in my base. I had this happen after using MC Edit to correct something in the world (bad idea when mods are concerned as it cannot handle block IDs higher than 256), and if left holes where mobs could spawn around my base.
One of those was a zombie, which was easily dealt with, while the other was a creeper. In both cases they gitched through walls and ended up in my base; this same thing has also caused my chickens and a few animals to get caught in the ground and suffocate to death at times, though this has nothing to do with using MC Edit. The creeper glitched into my base and ended up behinf me while I was standing at the MFE in the center of my main IC2 room. The main use for this one was making Electroyzed Water Cells for my Centrifuge Extractors and recharging my tools and Lappack. Because of the armor I had on (I had a full Quantum Suit at this point), he did no damage, but the blast took out the MFE, 2 Electrolyzers, a Geothermal Generator powering it all, and a nearby gold chest. The chest was not destroyed, but it and everything in it were scattered around the room as a result of the blast.
Edit: I have seen the glitching through walls occurring in Forgecraft LP videos by Direwolf20, and he said it is a desync issue. It might be Forge related.

XD
