Started a new save, set it to large biomes and got spawned on an island in the middle of an ocean. I thought this was pretty cool so I've been working to make the island my home (the only problem is no animals )
Here is the house I built:

Pretty simple but then again I'm not an expert builder
Just finished building the North Wall of my castle at long last. Now I just need to built the East, West and South walls, and the watchtowers, and all the missing building inside the castle walls, and the redstone gates, and...
Enchanted all my armor and tools, went to the nether, ghast knocked me into lava, lost everything except my diamond pants and some arrows. Respawned, got the pants and arrows, started mining to level back up, fell in lava, placed water, got stuck inside an obsidian block. Died lost a fortune 3 diamond pick, rage quit.
After having the basic frame for ages, I've finally committed to the rebuild of the pub/tavern after initially being unsure what materials to use for the walls. Decided against the ultra-modern look using snow/or white wool and the mediveil look. Instead I'm going traditional with wood, oak beams, jungle plank walls and spruce floors. I had to lower the initial ceiling though as it was to high up for the ceiling beams.

The old tavern from 2011 before demolition:
I just have to change the downstairs floor now to spruce planks also, then I will begin in the roof. I will probably have two or maybe three, depending on length, insertions in the roof with windows. Based on the pub/tavern from the kingdoms mod, once the roof is done I'll furnish inside.

Due to the other whitelisted vanilla server I had going down, I joined another one with another close friend and built another villager prison, this time using villagers from an actual village (not from the Purification Station).
I also made a double-spawn experience grinder which works amazingly.
I have been having more fun with ruins, this time on a SMP, and I left it "to be discovered." The extreme hills biome makes for a good temple mount type of ruin, and you can only find the entrance if you keep your eyes open at sea level.

The view at the top of the stairs
The spring that channels water into a waterfall off the back of the mount
I kinda went mining, went to the nether and I didn't die! I felt bad for whoever fell in lava with a fortune III pick because ironically I just enchanted a pick on level 30 and got Unbreaking III Fortune III
Some things I've been doing around my newest base, which is about 1200 blocks south of my original one:
First I got my IC2 machines line set up, and made 2 Medium Voltage Solar Arrays to power them, as well as a Geothermal Generator as backup. Then I found a few lava lakes nearby underground and collected all of the lava into cells for the generator. I have around 2 stacks worth, plus another 5 I brought with me from my original base. I have yet to set up a solar flower (energy collector/anitmatter relay/energy condenser array) in EE2, so I do not have the capability yet to duplicate lava buckets. The collectors, as well as Red Matter, are both going away with EE3. Those are among the more OP items in the mod, though there are some others.
Then I set up a small 4/1 Mk III solar flower just for charging Klein Stars, and made 2 Red Matter furnaces.
Once the base was established, I expanded to the east and added my enchantment table and potion brewing area.
Later I put a wall around the area made out of stone bricks, with wooden planks, fences and torches on top. The top is a 2x2 walkway between the fences, while the wall is 2w x 6h. The entire thing is 62 x 76 blocks.
Next I set up farms for wheat, flax (from IC2, drops string and flax seeds when harvested), pumpkins (2 rows of 18), melons (1 row of 18), and sugar cane. The pumpkins I put to use to make Jack-O-Lanterns which I have used to light up the entire ground inside the walls. There is 1 every 5 blocks apart.
My current project is building a house. It is going to be U shaped, 39 x 22 on the outside, with the legs of the U being 12 x 10. Those areas will be 2 floors high, while the center 12 x 15 area will be 3 floors high. I just got back from mining a lot of clay, so I may have enough to complete the house. I have not been relying on EE2 for any of this build, instead harvesting wood from my tree farm (the floors are all birch), pumpkins (using Jack-O-Lanterns in the house for lighting), and the clay I've mined. There's loads of it under water. I'm literally finding it everywhere except by or in desert biomes.
I finally made a second portal in the nether and passage way connecting the two. Now I have a shortcut to link my spawn (island) with where I going to build a ranch.
Constructed a smallish cattle ranch at what was the terminus of my South Road. An ongoing WIP.
Modified a river-spanning bridge just south of the new cattle ranch. An ongoing WIP.
Went on an lengthy exploratory expedition, traveling far from home. Discovered my first desert temple. Two real-life days later I found another. Thanks to YouTube videos I knew to avoid the traps. (They were fairly obvious. I like to think I'd have spotted them on my own.)
Found an Extreme Hills biome not generated an older version of the game. Bored a stairwell down to diamond level. Mined my first emeralds. Unearthed a decent amount of diamonds too. Encountered my first silverfish.
I had a creeper blow up really close to my chicken farm, blowing up a couple of chickens and also blowing up the fence, allowing everyone to escape. I was really dreading having to find chickens again, then having to get them to follow me all the way back to my house. Then I realized that I still had 64 eggs. Broke 32 of them and got 5 chicks to come out. Cool! Now I have a chicken farm again.
I've also started building more portals to link various areas I've found in the overworld. So much easier to get to the closest NPC village now. Also built a portal shortcut to a second abandoned mineshaft I found weeks ago. I happened to write down the F3 coordinates, so built a portal to get there.
I finished the outside part of my new house, then dug out two 20x16x5 areas under it to move my workshop, chests, IC2 machines, and EE2 setup into it. I also set up a 17/5 Mk III solar flower in the base near an Alchemical Chest and my 2 Red Matter furnaces.
I also demolished the part of my old base that housed the enchantment table and potion brewing area, and moved everything into one of the 20x16x5 spaces. On the opposite side of that area I put 3 Coke Ovens and 2 Blast Furnaces (both Railcraft structures). I was kind of concerned at first that the lava generated in the latter when smelting iron into steel would set the wooden floor of my house above it on fire, but it did not.
Into the second area I put all my chests, IC2 machines, MFE and Geothermal Generator, my 17/5 solar flower and the rest of my EE2 setup. The machines are along one wall, the chests (all from the Iron Chests mod, most are gold, 2 diamond) along the back wall, and on the opposite wall from the IC2 machines I put the EE2 structures.
Now that the old base is empty, I need to finish working on the house. The interior needs walls and the second and third floors (the back center portion is the only 3rd floor area) need windows. I still have my bed in the old base on the same level as my minecart tracks, so it will need to be moved. I plan to either leave the tracks in place as they are, or run some elevator tracks down to ground level.
I will eventually upgrade the entire rail line between the bases to high speed; that will require a lot of gold, blaze powder, and smelting iron ingots into steel in the blast furnaces
I have the gold music disk 2256 if you want. I don't really care about them myself
In a week, 15% completion.

But at least the North wall is done.

Also been trying to create a brand new, unthought of design of mob tower using tripwires, cats and villagers.
