The funniest time i died was when i was mining diamonds, **starts crying** i was mining underneath myself **sniff** and i fell in lava. Then i found water and got in it before i did. Then in relief **sniff** i was taken back in the lava by water. Then i was dead. By the way the water was running into the lava.
I was on Hardcore and on a tall cliff. I was being chased by a group of five creepers and in my panic I tried to jump to a jungle treetop not far from the drop, but didn't go far enough and fell to my death.
(This is a true story)
I was extending my watchtower, and I felt bored. I decided to jump off it to see what would happen, thinking that I'd land in the lake near it. Landed two blocks away and died from the 45-or-so block fall.

The pen is mightier than the sword. I keep the sword for the day I run out of ink.
Spawned 5 withers to test out my base. I was battling the final one, he had only a couple hits left til he died! Skeleton shot me in the back and I died.... I laughed so hard at the irony

One time in SMP, me and the server OP were around the spawn, the Op flew up (Creative mode), got a fishing pole, baited me and threw me up into the air and landed back down only to die.

I remember trapping myself behind a glass wall because I was trying to make a lava fall behind cause it looks cool but instead I trapped myself inside with my first ever diamond pickaxe and died.. I had that pickaxe for a few hours too...
The most hilarious instance was on an SMP server around 1.2-1.4 beta.
This was soon after we got Multiverse installed on the server (or some other multiple-worlds mod) and we were going for a Nether Trip. we were all in a skype conversation. And we were discussing what we would need. I was animate that we ought to have iron armour in case somebody accidentally aggro'd a pigman, or in case we needed pork or something. And that we should bring some good equipment. Everybody was ready but me, and they were all "COME ON" and I was all "It's the nether man, we need to be prepared, you guys are gonna die and I'll laugh".
So we go to the nether, and meet up on the other side. the portal is housed on a short bridge extending over a lava ocean. First thing I noticed was a ghast, so I went out on the bridge to kill it. I strafed to avoid their fireball.
Apparently, there was a hole in the bridge. I fell to my death and died in lava not 15 seconds after we started. I didn't say anything. about a minute later one of them was like "hey wait... BC where did you go" "uhh... I died like 10 seconds after we entered the nether, man" and lolz were had by all involved.
I was about to explore a mineshaft I had found on an extra-hard multiplayer server.
I got up to the mineshaft, fought off a zombie, and doused the area in lava for a bit so it wouldn't reanimate (as I said, extra hard).
I started walking, and the floor turned to wood; there was a cave below me.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a charged creeper hit the ground behind me and exploded (charged creepers randomly spawn and explode if they take any damage). I survived with two and a half hearts...
...but the bridge broke and I died of fall damage.
All I said was "what the ****" and went back in in a mad dash to get my stuff... only to be slain by reanimating zombies halfway through the cave.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I was on a non-vanilla server with a plugin (/launch) for donors that launched any player high in the air. One guy was doing it to himself and a few others at one point, and I asked for it. I shot very high up, and tried to do /home before I fell too far. Didn't work.
I was spelunking once and pillared up with gravel to get some coal. Except I used my lava bucket instead. Several stacks of iron and a bunch of other assorted valuables were lost, but it was still pretty funny.
Or maybe one time a creeper blew up and caused a gravel cave-in, which killed me.
I was mining obsidian in a ravine for a nether portal with my friends on my private server. I told one of them to guard me from mobs so I wouldn't have to multitask. He decided he needed to collect some coal, so he ran off. Finally, as I was still mining, a creeper falls from one of the ledges and explodes, dropping me into the lava I had previously blocked up with dirt and cobble. Oh, that was terrible but funny.
I was playing a Vechs Super Hostile map called Waking Up and was at a crossroad to different areas. this crossroad had lava covered by glass in the center. Well it turns out that there was no glass in the very middle block which i fell into. in an atempt to escape i tried to break the glass separating my forward operating base and the lava. I broke the glass releasing myself and all the lava into my base burning my chest of loot, then I burned to death. After this I quit the map for now with no good weapons, armor, food, little wood, etc.
P.S. If you like a chalenge you should go check out Vechs's Maps.
Guys, Minecraft is serious and should be taken super seriously. (lol)
At the very top of my head: Recently I was in a cave and was mining some iron ore when a creeper suddenly came to my right side (good thing I was being cautious enough to look around to see it) and so I backed off to get some space between us... right into another creeper that I didn't see and blew up. Then I blew up again from the original creeper soon after before I could get my bearings. xD
The thing is is that I THOUGHT the place was lit enough to be safe. Either there were some entry ways that I missed, or I should probably turn my brightness down a tad. Thankfully though, I had the cave entrance marked by Rei's minimap mod (I love that mod so much). So I was able to find it again and continue on with my adventure. c:

Sheesh, lol. You must really like a good challenge.
Well one time I happened to be fighting the ender dragon. And as I was distracted shooting the crystals the dragon decides to come and hit me. And as it did I went flying up into the air and fell into the void. Gg dragon. I lost a really good enchanted suit of iron armour a bow tonnes of arrows and a decent iron sword.
I know say to myself when ever I'm in that place to pay good damn attention to whats going on around me.
Another time when I was playing survival for the very first time I was building my house and it was becoming dark so I went inside. After being getting really bored of sitting there I felt like I could build the rest of my house without problem. Bad move indeed two creepers sneak up on me and I was dead. Deleted the world in rage lol.
Whats yours.

That was a bad time.
Then i said. I have died once. Why spider.
Check out what i was like
