On the server I play on, the town names are either generic ("Harbor City", "Townsville" -_-), based on someone's name ("___'s City", "___ville") or from pokemon *cringe*
Take the surrounding area, try to describe it in one or two words, go to google translate and see what it is in latin. So a fortress like area in a mountain range could be Fort Montem or mountain, a forest village could be Arbor for tree. Stuff like that.
Sometimes, towns' names aren't based on where they are or what they're made of- but rather the person who founded it. For creativity, I would take the name of your pet and append it to it's color. Try to use detailed color names, and truncate anything that sounds weird from the name.
For example, I have a dog named Covey, she's a black Labrador. So the town's name would be Black Covey.
You could also take other adjectives that describe your pets and apply them here. Maybe even replace your pet's name with a verb that describes them instead of the obvious dog name. Since my Labrador, Covey, has large paws in proportion to her body, the town's name could be Black Largepaw.
For effect, you could switch the words around to make a little less sense of the words describing your pet. Perhaps Largepaw Black would fit your standards better than Black Largepaw.

Ideas I would like to see in vanilla Minecraft: 1) A grinding machine — similar to a furnace, but breaks down items like a leather tunic into pieces of leather. 2) Recycling — the ability to smelt metal tools and pieces of armor back into their respective ingots. 3) A hammer — used to break down cobblestone into gravel, and gravel into sand. 4) A study — a work bench that takes an enchanted item and a plain book to extract enchantments at the cost of experience.
