Soo, one day I was watching random youtube stuff, and then I saw it, a giant creeper statue. I felt in love. With statues.
My objective was set, make creeper statues, but not just simple creeper statues, creeper statues of all availible blocks, without using any kind of cheats, meaning I would have to gather it using my very own hands and tools!
I tried already twice, starting with the Dirt Creepers, but I didn't even looked properly to a creeper, just guessed the number and built it. It looked awfull, both of then. BUT today I decided to actually do the math for it! How many block will I need? Wich size can I make my creeper in a correct scale? And so, I calculated it all, and i'm going to share with you guys, not only the math, but the progress of my job too. LET'S GO!
I choose to do an 1:1 (1 pixel to 1 block) scale of the creeper, because if divided by two, it'll get messy due to uneven number in the statue =3
Let get it started!
The Head - A simple 8x8x8:
= anyblock
The side and the back of the head are just 8x8, so does the top, no need for graphs for that right? xD Obs.: If you don't want to make a obsidian face, you can leave it blank, guess it works too.
The Body - Creepers body are the same lenght of it's head, 8 , It's height is 12, and the width is half of the head, 4, pretty plain too, its positioned under the head in a way that there are 2 blocks out in the front, and 2 in the back, something like this, viwed from the side:
Head
[] [] [] []
[] [] Body
The Feet - It's pretty dull actually, just 2 lage retangles, of 6 height, the same lenght of the body, and all the rest, and 4 depth each part, the "tricky" part, is how they are positioned under the body, it's actually not connected to the body, it should look something like this, viwed by the side:
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] Body
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] Feet
Yes, the creeper is an ugly guy =3
Now to the math shall we gentleman?
I've done the math for 3 kind of creepers, the Solid, the Hollowed and the Economic creeper
Hey! Now that's better! Savin lots of blocks by doing that! This will be my main kind of creeper (I'll not use obsidian initially)!
You can also save more blocks if you're willing to sacrifice some aesthetic:
Open top of the head: 6x6 = 36 blocks saved
Open the top and botton of the body = 2x2x6 = 24 blocks saved
Wow, you can make a giant creeper with only 240 blocks? Yes, you can, but it will only look good from the front! Since with the 236 you are only able to build the front of the creeper!
At last, a full "blue print" of the creeper statue so you can build your own!
Those smeltable materials will need
N amount of the material + N/1,5 Wood
Wait, wood, not coal? Well, since wood is renewable, and is not used to make torches, i'm going with wood, the processed one, with one trunk you can smelt 6 items, thats good for me.
Similar to the Stone/Glass creeper, it'll need 4x more wood, because you must smelt every piece of clay to turn then into blocks, so Nm + 4N/1,5w.
PS.: The clay to brick block ratio is 1:1, so just N in the formula.
WARNING: Building this creeper might cause your sea level to rise a little. Be prepared for floods.
Snow Creeper
Solid: 4464m
Hollow: 3344m
Economic: 936m
The snow creeper is kinda tricky. I listed how many snowballs you'll need to make the blocks used to build the creepers, so, 4n
WHAT THE HELL? To make any creepers out of solid ore block, you'll need an awfully lot of materials, the formula is 9Nm + 9N/1,5w . Oh my, that's a real lot of thing to mine. I see a world full of clobblerstone buildings, trees and hollow in a near future.
Simple Material Creepers:
Solid: 1116m
Hollow: 836m
Economic: 236m
Those are simple (d'uh). Just get the blocks, and place then in the right places, so the formula is simply, N. =3 Those include Wool, Trunk, lighstone, slowsand, netherstone, obsidian, pumpikin mossy clobberstone and anything else I have missed
TO THE SCREENSHOTS!
The Creeper Brothers: The most basic materials ever! Woody, Clobby and Dirty sit right beside my base watching over it! Oddly enough, sometimes I find some skelletons lurking around then, even thought it's all lighten up o.O
Smoothy there! He is in a dirt spiderproof plataform a few blocks away from my base
Glassy sits on top of ice, over 350 blocks away from my base, the easier way to get to it is by the Nether, using underground ghast-proof tunnels!
How about adminium/bedrock, how are you going to do that? Use some mod such as BedSidian to be able to mine bedrock?
By avaliable , I actually meant the blocks that can be mined/gathered in the game without any mods/outside help, so things like bedrock, sponges, leafs, and things like that, does not count xD
fill it with TNT and blow it up
that would be awesome
I did this with my two flawled ones, it took only 4 TNT to blow each one.
But now i'm building for keeps =3

Man, that's awesome, I may build some creepers heads too, I'll have to expand my backyard!

i made a creeper statue a quite while ago out of cobblestone.

all legit.
i was gonna make it's face obsidian but i calculated that i needed 80 obsidian so i gave up on that idea.
Well, tou can just replace the dirt with obisidian so it takes only 20 blocks =]
Quote from catzalot »
Now I must get a good 1000 Mossy cobble for my statue.
It's really hard to, but not impossible... For those hard to get blocks (mossy clobberstone and clay), I'm allowing myself to use Cartographer to point me somewhat toward it, but nothing more.

Nice, I will make one and blow it up.
Just do it! =D
On my progress, i'll start building it now, but I have only a few hours to build, but i'll rush it the most I can, expent the morning clearing the old ones, then slept =3

well no... if it was smaller then i would need 20 obsidian but i made it to a size that one 2x2 block would be equal to a single pixel on an actual creeper.
and since the creepers face is 20 pixels and 2x2=4 i need 4 times more obsidian. 20x4=80.
I know it's not a full-on statue, per se, but I made a Creeper bust atop the mountain behind my fort.
*img*
It drools lava :biggrin.gif:
Really awesome! I would make my creepers drool lava/water but they are just above my mob trap, so, no can do.

I shall make this.
Go for it =D

Field of creeper heads? Have any pictures of the older on you had?
That actually sounds really awesome. I'm picturing an easter island of creeper heads. XD
Man, if only I had a ocean nearby, and easter creeper island would be my next project!
Updating my progress, I've already made the Dirty and Clobby Creepers (those are they nicknames) and as you can see I am about to axe the hell out of the florests around my house =D

Might I recommend a flint and steel?
I could use it, but i need the leaves to decay so I have more wood, gonna need truckloads of it to fuel the furnaces!
The creeper family just got bigger, Woody joined then! I'll post some pics latter. =3
Now I'll take a break and continue laying underwater traps and building an underwater base before the update hits =D

I've done the math for 3 kind of creepers, the Solid, the Hollowed and the Economic creeper
The Solid
Head: 8x8x8 - 20 = 492
Body: 12x8x4 = 288
Feet: 6x8x4 = 384
Total: 1116 = 17 stacks + 28 Blocks + 20 Obsidian
Obviously, this kinda of creeper is almost impossible to build, but it would be the ultimade creeper statue
The Hollowed
Head: 2x8x8 + 4x8x6 = 128 + 192 - 20 = 320
Body: 2x12x8 + 2x2x12 + 2x2x6 = 192 + 48 + 24 = 264
Feet: 4x6x8 + 4x6x2 + 1x2x6 = 192 + 48 + 12 = 252
Total: 836 = 13s + 4 Blocks + 20 Obsidian
Hey! Now that's better! Savin lots of blocks by doing that! This will be my main kind of creeper (I'll not use obsidian initially)!

Head: 8x8 + 3x8 - 20 = 68
Body: 12x8 = 96
Feet: 6x8 + 3x8 = 72
Total: 236 = 3s + 44 blocks and 20 Obsidian

m = said material
w = processed wood
Woody Creeper
Solid: 1116/4 = 279 logs
Hollow: 836/4 = 209
Economic: 236/4 = 59
Pretty easy, will only need to gather 1/4 of the blocks, and then turn then into processed stuff =3
Glass/Stone Creeper
Solid: 1116m + 744w
Hollow: 836m + 558w
Economic: 236m + 158w
