Professional help: Use a hoe on a the dirt blocks next to the Melon plants.
Professional!!? What do dwarves know about melons....oh never mind.
Feanor is correct.
Although I thought I had heard a rumor that Jeb was thinking about removing the need to hoe the adjoining soil for the melons and pumpkins to grow. I'm fine with either way but not tilling around the plant seems more intuitive.

I had the same problem too. But that was because i had a solid block above my stem. as soon as i removed them and changed it to iron bars my melons grew. i hoped this helped, cuz if it didnt, not sure what you might be looking for...
My melons won't grow either. I'm a dude though, so I didn't really expect them to...
No really, my melon farm won't grow. I got the design from the minecraft wiki, and the farm was working perfectly until around a week ago when the melons suddenly wouldn't grow anymore
It stopped spawning melons around the time where all the plants had fully grown, so I tried removing some plants to see if it would help, but still no bust.
In the image below you can see that
The plants all have somewhere to spawn melons
There is at least 1 air block above every plant
There is enough lighting for the plants
I'm playing on my buddy's server by the way.
It looks to me like we might be dealing with a bug here...
Any ideas? Professional help would be much appreciated.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Ahaha I tried tilling half of the soil blocks and it seems that I misunderstood the wiki article about melons... I was sure there was no need for tilling the spawning soil!
Solution: TILL THE DIRT
Thanks guys.
