Dinnerbone recently tweeted a picture of something he was planning on adding to Minecraft, falling trees! I'm not sure what the mechanics of this are. If they naturally spawn or if you just knock off the bottom block. See the tweet here. https://twitter.com/dinnerbone/status/227757928076148737
That would be AWESOME! I want that now.
It should fall other in different ways, like if rain falls,
trees could be knocked over. You should be able to knock the bottom off and
it would fall over.
Looks like hes thinking about adding fallen trees, not falling trees. I would much prefer if trees didnt randomly start falling down, so I would actually like this

As I said in the OP, Idk if the generate or fall naturally.
What's bad about it?
Not all features are to everyone's liking but this is just a small aesthetics addition.
I just don't like it. If trees came already fallen down, I wouldn't mind so much. If they actively fall (cutting, lighting, etc.) that I would really mind.

you guys make it sound like the wind will blow a whole forest over, I don't like that kind of method, if your cutting a tree, sure, I can understand it falling, but just plain falling over for no reason? makes no sense to me.

Thanks for the response Dinnerbone, the horizontally oriented logs are something I've wanted for a long time. No need to get fancy with things like trees naturally falling over.
a tree falling over would squish your character into the ground, suffocating them like when stuck in gravel. possibly leaving a Steve shaped hole in the ground haha. No slopes, but you displace blocks over a slanted surface, it would just look much like Minecraft.
Plus if it's an entity destroying it with any log block would make for cool realism.

I love Dinnerbone's enthusiasm and his level of community involvement has been beyond the call of duty in my opinion. I'm sure some of you will be spoiled by this.
I like the potential option for orienting wood differently.

This game really does have some of the best developers, when it comes to community involvement. They all seem just as excited about their game as their fans, and it's great.
I think the most advanced we could get with actual "Falling trees" would be making all the logs on a tree drop as an item when you break the base, kinda like the timber mod.
It would be cool to yell "TIMBER" and watch the tree fall. Then the fallen parts of the tree would either be already broken off and able to be picked up or wouldn't take as long to grab.

Do not want.
I want horizontal wood, but not falling trees.
I am ninja'd far too often.
It says on twitter that he also was going to add it into 12w30c but he couldn't finish it in time.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
But if he means adding physics to trees, no. Never. EVER.
