Recently I have been in the process of building a slime farm but there's one thing i'm confused about. Currently I have seen slimes in both chunks but i'm not certain as to whether or not I have slime chunks that are beside each other or a single slime chunk. In particular i'm confused because the chunk with more spawn able surface area has gotten a lot less slimes than in the other chunk. In one of the chunks I have a 16x16 hole in the ground, where as the one right next to it has at least a one block thick wall on it's own perimeter. So the wall is there for not within the area of the 16x16 hole. Now what i'm wondering is if, it is in anyway possible for a slime to spawn on the edge of chunks thus going into the other chunk even though there would be a solid wall with in "slime" chunk.
The only possibility for slimes to spawn below Y=40 in non slime chunks is from the way pack spawning works. The pack spawning mechanic can spawn mobs up to 20 blocks from the initial spawn block chosen, however it is heavily weighted to spawn closer to the initial spawn block, so very unlikely for them to spawn that far. It seems like I remember something about pack spawning might have changed a little in 1.9/1.10 to be in a smaller area, so I'm not sure if the wiki is accurate on the 20 blocks anymore....or perhaps my crappy memory is in error.
With the way slime spawning works slimes should not spawn in non-slime chunks, period, unless it is in a swamp biome between y=50-70; the actual coordinates of the individual spawn attempt are used to determine whether or not they can spawn in a chunk below y=40:
Interesting. So the individuals of the pack spawning mechanic are even checked? I would have thought they might not have bothered with that as long as the initial spawn target was in a slime chunk.

That's because every time a mob attempts to spawn the game calls their "getCanSpawnHere" method, which includes more specific checks, such as light levels and whether there is enough space, which must be applied to the exact coordinates the mob will spawn at.
For example, most hostile mobs share this generic code with certain mobs, including slimes, having their own checks:
Your best bet would be to enter your seed and coordinates into the slime chunk app on chunkbase. It's very possible you have adjacent slime chunks. They are not uncommon. In my newest world I have three slime chunks in a row directly under my base. Unfortunately that base is on a Mushroom Island, but still, adjacent slime chunks happen, and are more common than you might think.
In one of my earlier worlds I have a simple slime farm built on two diagonally adjacent slime chunks (under water).

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
If you post the world I can scan to see which chunks are indeed slime chunks.
My Vanilla server compatible modpack
My modpack that goes beyond Vanilla

I suspect that they are moving over into the non-slime chunk.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

In turn, that calls the same method in a chain of classes (the super call) until you reach the base class for all living entities:
