So, it seems no matter what server I play on, once I find a jungle biome, I can't manage to find ocelots.
I've done the reading on the spawning of ocelots and how you tame them, blah, blah, but maybe I'm still not entirely understanding, and I am looking to find someone to explain how I can get kittehs faster, cause being a crazy cat lady and not having any cats is diminishing my title :-(
1. When a chunk is generated, do the ocelots spawn at that time and that time only?
It says in the wiki "Ocelots try to spawn on grass blocks or leaves at sea level or higher in jungle biomes. There is a 1⁄3 chance that a spawn attempt will fail. - so is that at chunk generation, loading, any time in the MC world ?
2. Under trivia it says, "While ocelots are passive mobs, natural spawning considers the hostile mob cap rather than the much-lower passive mob cap." - So do I need to clear out all the potential hostile mobs in hopes to get them to spawn once I am in the chunk?
3. If they aren't part of the passive mob cap, I don't have to kill off the sheep/chickens/whatnot in hopes that the cats will spawn?
4. Any other tricks? I've heard rumors that lighting the larger grassy/leaf areas helps, what about walking around with a fish in your hand - is that at all helpful?
Anyways - I'm beginning to want to QQ, so hoping someone can help me get some meow meows soon!

1. I'm pretty failure is the same with ghasts, how whenever they can spawn they have a 1 in 16 chance of failing. So anytime when the chunks are loaded and other conditions are fulfilled.
2. Xisumavoid actually did testing and found that Ocelots aren't actually in the hostile mob cap.
3. You probably will have to kill off some in the jungle so they can spawn.
4. I have no idea, since I never use cats.
Hope I was of assistance!

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Ocelots are rarer these days due to some spawn mechanic (as explained by The Master Caver) that was changed inadvertently when witches were added as a generally spawning hostile mob (as opposed to being just limited to Witch Huts) - I don't rem which version that was. I'm not sure about spawning, but IME its just random and at anytime; in my jungle biome I haven't really reduced the chunk spawned passive mob cap greatly in the area, in fact, I've bred a few cows and pigs in places, but ocelots still spawn occasionally. I tend to find they spawn better if you clear a lot of the ground leaves away from an area and just leave it grass.
The fish only comes into play when you find an Ocelot I believe.

Oddly enough, soon as I posted this and flipped back to my MC screen, there were 2 little ocelots jumping about in some higher tree leaves (I also had been clearing out larger areas of grass, but I guess this proves the whole can spawn on leaves theory)
Of course both of them had to change into black tuxedo cats - when I really wanted two different kinds, cause I "need" 2 gray and 1 black... (Can't ever be happy, right? 😂🐯🐯 - thanks for the responses though!)

Mintutor now works in 1.13!
MrKite & Mc_Etlam ... I salute you!

I think you're SOL on the gray cats...
99.9% sure your random choices are black, yellow tiger, or Siamese.
I have a corral (jungle - like the color of the grass) with zero trees or leaves, ozelots still spawn there.
