That infinity bow sure will be useful. It's one of my favorite enchantments. And how are you liking those new 1.9 boats?
Darn tootin'! It will free me from the tyranny of a chicken farm, for starters. And 1.9 boats are reliable! No more carrying spares. No more smashing them to bits on a squid in the middle of the sea. No more swimming after the stupid things when you jump out & they go scooting 1000 yards offshore.
I've been thinking about posting this update for some time... the problem isn't that I don't have anything to post, but rather that I have had writer's block. AKA I didn't know what to say. I've done lots of exploring, I had my first death (in a swamp biome to the north, while hunting slimes), and wore out my first set of iron armor killing things & getting my EXP back up. Frustrating, and not much fun to write about.
So I'm skipping a lot of that. I don't really build anything in this episode, but I didn't want to fast forward through things entirely. Next time I will be starting a more ambitious build project - promise!
You can't tell from this angle, but Isla Sorna is over twice the area of Nooblar. It'll be a loooong time before I manage to get both islands properly turfed.
The Big Island will eventually be my permanent base, if I stick with this world long enough...
I have plenty of coal by now, but for some reason I like using lava buckets as fuel. It feels like I'm saving the planet or something.
Right now I don't even have wool to make a bed, much less carpets & banners. Clearly, I need to start a sheep colony on my island.
In retrospect, that probably wasn't very reassuring thing to say
It really does seem to rain a lot here. Also, you can just see one corner of the porch I added to the back of my starter cabin since last episode.
These skeleton riders drop nothing of value. I really need to get a sword with the LOOTING enchantment as soon as possible.
Now I've got 8 of these creepy things.
I don't think they can drown, so... maybe it got struck by lightning? The minor mystery bothers me, but eventually I throw in the towel. It'll be quicker to just go find more sheep.
Not to be a stickler, but "Nublar" is spelled with a u...
Clearly, if you have Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar, then the larger nearby landmass should be Costa Rica. I know Costa Rica isn't an island irl, but gameplay trumps realism.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. I will face my fear. I will let it pass over me and through me, and when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Ah! That's clever! I didn't think about it, just let my inner grammar geek out.

It's probably not as clever in Spanish, but it's my island so neener
Anyway if you're curious , there are actually supposedly 5 islands in the fictional Muertes Archipelago of Jurassic Park - I'll probably use one of those for the big one, and another for the jungle island where I spawned. And I'll use Costa Rica for the mainland jungle further west (which I have yet to explore).
Well, that's okay, since you're naming it in English, and as you said, it's yours to do with as you like
Hm, I didn't remember that. It's been ages since I read the books. Your plan sounds pretty good, though.

Do you ever play your survival worlds off and on? Like, suppose you are really dedicated to the world for a few months, then you suddenly gain interest in maybe another aspect of minecraft, or maybe something not minecraft related, and after a few weeks of that, or maybe a whole month or longer, do you suddenly gain interest in your survival world again and go back to playing it a lot? Also, do you actually like the rain? Serious question, because I think I'm the only one who does...

Yes & no. I only like to play one survival world at a time (so this journal world is "it"!) - when I start a new one, the older one always ends up abandoned. However, I'll sometimes put in on hold for as long as a week at a time, then come back to it when I'm in the mood for minecraft again.
Also, do you actually like the rain? Serious question, because I think I'm the only one who does...
I used to hate the rain sound, but version 1.9 toned down the sound effect so I'm fine with it now. I only fish while it rains, because I am too impatient with it otherwise.
Mending is only found, not available through the enchanting table, FYI. Without Unbreaking III on that bow, you might actually have to repair it. However, Mending bows aren't terribly rare when fished from the water. Since you have Infinity—which is rarer than Mending, it seems to me—make sure you leave enough levels on the anvil to combine it with a Mending bow in the future. Mending bows, like Mending fishing rods, for all practical purposes have infinite durability.
Stupid creepers! They are the builder's worst nightmare! Now just get power V and at the right distance you can kill them instantly with a bow!
They are even more obnoxious when they blow up the new 1.9 pathways, because you have to wait for the grass to regrow before you can repair the path. It doesn't work on bare dirt blocks.

Thanks! I've been wondering lately if I am moving too slow - focusing too much on early days. So many other people's worlds are incredibly advanced , with massive builds & stupefying redstone factory thingies.
I haven't found a Mending book yet, but I understand that it might be possible to acquire one from villager trading. I did fish up a pole with mending also, so that gives me hope that I can fish up a bow as well.
You can use your Silk Touch pick on grass blocks to get blocks for placement and path making. That's what I do.
Trading is a good way to get Mending books. Since you have a Mending rod, there is also AFK fishing to consider, which is covered in detail in the thread I linked in my last post.
I'd suggest continuing as you've done and chronicle whatever you like. Personally, I enjoy reading about the early stages more than I do the big, end-game builds.

My short story-like journals; quick-and-easy reads:
I actually discovered a librarian this weekend in one of the 4 villages in the plains near my base who actually traded mending books for 16 emeralds. My mouth fell open in disbelief and I just stared for about a minute when I found him. I quickly herded him back into the library house and locked him behind a counter.

WOW. That is a VERY good deal. You should name him "Fred" because he's trying to give away the store again! Question - I read someplace that a villager will only do one specific trade 3 times, is that true?
I don't think so at all! Been following since the start and I enjoy seeing the early days, getting started, finding your first rare things, and how the world is beginning to come together! Been following since the start and still look forward to your updates! The only improvement I could suggest is that you could possibly update more frequently - but I think you already mentioned that you're trying to stay a few episodes ahead in your gameplay so I'm guessing time and having a real life is a factor - so just keep on doing what you're doing!
Thank you! Good to hear I really do wish I had more time for it, I usually only get a couple of hours here & there to play and/or put together an episode. I'm getting faster at it though. My goal is to put up an episode at least once a week.
The day starts off with good news, but later on it is brought to my attention that We Have a Problem..
Just another example of how fences can be glitchy.
Seriously. I'm bothered & appalled by some of the harsh conditions other minecraft players keep their livestock and villagers in. Even the idea of killing livestock with fire to get cooked meat drops, makes me uncomfortable.
Yep, the herd is almost 20 strong by now. Half of them are hiding in my attic / enchanting area.
Feeding time. They can be a tad pushy.
The trapdoor just leads down to the beach. Vines keep the monsters from "seeing" me but I can pass through.
Travelling on the path is SO much faster than trying to weave through & around the jungle undergrowth.
Yes, I'm watching the new season of "Silicon Valley"
Gilfoyle & Dinesh are my two favorite characters of the show - classic "Frenemies"!
And apparently they smell bad, according to Gilfoyle & Dinesh. I don't even notice anymore honestly.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
EPISODE 6 : ECOTEURS
A simple project devolves into a war zone - but there's a silver lining.
Besides, I still don't know what happened to my first sheep. I need a safe place for them.
It's only temporary. No problem!
My inspiration for this is Charlito153's excellent journal. Please take a look at it, if you haven't already!
My goal is to have a relatively safe route to travel west by horse, both convenient and elegant.
The creepers are the worst. They blend in with the jungle until they're right on top of you.
That's me doing my best "Richard Nixon's Head" impression. Arooo!
Get it? Infinite Power? Because it has "Infinite" and "Power IV"? *crickets chirping*
... as long as I'm far enough away that the flame has time to finish them off.
Actually, it's more like if Legolas & Katniss had a love child. This bow makes me seriously awesome.
The only thing that saved my... hash, was jumping off the bridge. My armor is still unenchanted iron.
