Now i just designed a house for minecraft(duh!) and i have dug the design in minecraft and have everything ready to build but i dont know what to build it out of that looks nice, i was thinking wood and stone but i am unsure...so i came here to ask what can i build my house out off that looks nice, sandstone and planks? wood, stone, sand?
*note This is not just a square block derp first build't house its my third on this map its all ready designed and ready, its not a flat roof either one of those ones that go up untill the sides meet type of thing and no i dont have pics
Oh and it is vanilla minercraft so no texture packs or mods, it has to look nice in vanilla minecraft*
Combination of fresh wood, glass, and stone halfblocks. The combination is very refreshing. Put in the extra effort to make the wood pine, and it will be extra classy!

hmm seems nices....*go's to go find trees.....* but what about torchs? arnt we not able to place torchs on stone halfblocks? like i get i can place it on walls and make skylights....(i used skylights once to light up my second floor works perfectly if done right and uses half the torchs needed because teh second floor needs none...and mobs also dont spawn up stairs either!)
You can put torches on "full" halfblocks . . . actually, I guess I should have specified that I meant "full" smooth stone halfblocks. Not just half ones (though you can certainly use them) and by no means cobble halfblocks.
In real life, fish are cursed with the fact that it will never rain for them. In minecraft, they can now live out their fantasies. Notch has a heart for his fish brethren.
Sandstone and dyed wool (esp. blue, imo) go really well together. It tends to give your structures a vaguely middle-eastern look.
i just came back form holidays in the middle east lol.....got back before the protests....but i might go with some mixture of sandstone, wood, full stone half blocks and yes i will post screenshots...though dont know where to put the sandstone....oh and glass thats being used too..
i go with wood, cobble, glass, and smooth half steps... i know a lot of people aren't fond of cobble but i like how it gives a vaguely medieval look to buildings

Man your own jackhammer. Man your battle stations.
Whatever you do, just make sure it's not made out of straw or sticks..
My personal favorite is a mix of wood, planks, and glass; with cobblestone flooring.
I like basic old wood for houses, with a stone basement and brick roof. But on my last house i made the floors of both levels out of glowstone and it is awesome! Was a pretty wide two floors so it took awhile to gather it all but i like it a lot. Lights the whole house up with no torches required, kinda why i did it too cuz torches look to primitive for me.
I make the frame out of fresh wood (The edges, not the actual structure)and use wooden planks to make the rest of the house. I make at least 1 layer (the bottom layer) out of cobblestone and use either wooden planks or wool for the floor. I use fresh wood for the roof and make it spiral to the top, not flat-faced. I usually have a lot of large windows, sometimes taking up a whole wall. The interior is up to you, but I tend to make it the same as the exterior walls. I can make one to show you if this is too confusing.
Since my play is focused on building, not surviving, I play in Creative on Peaceful. This gives me access to all materials at my fingertips, and because of that I like Chiseled Quartz.. Or Obsidian with Chiseled Quartz flooring. Obsidian is highly useful if you are playing with trolllers, as it is inexplodable.
