This is great! Do you not take fall damage if you fall on slime blocks?
Bring up more updates!
#moreupdatesfromtheotherdews
Thanks a lot!
The mechanics of the slime blocks are a lot of fun! Not only do you not take fall damage, you bounce up & down a few times before you finally land. And if you hook up slime blocks to piston based contraptions it's even possible to launch players/mobs a good distance. Just make sure you don't hold crouch or you'll twist your ankle when you land (take fall damage).
Hey just an idea for your head wall, if you get blown up by a charged creeper (the one struck by lightning) or let it blow a zombie you can drop your head as an item on the floor in exchange of dying so if you can make charged creeper farm (Since you have a lot of cats making only creeper sorter is a lot easier!) and die to it with a zombie you can collect that heads!
Thanks for the tip! It would be a good way to add some variety to my head wall, I was aware of that feature of charged creepers, but I hadn't given any thought to farming them for this project. I'd always just assumed that mob heads were unfarmable in vanilla because of how random lightning is. I've been playing for a while but I've never had lightning land near enough to me to hit a creeper, (or a pig or villager for that matter). I'll look into a few farm styles and if they look fun to build I might give it a try.
At the moment I'm starting the pathway through the roofed forest. I managed to get the birch saplings as well as some nice flowers. (I still think that rosebushes should deal damage like a cactus when you walk through one). I can't decide whether I'd like to build Baba Yaga's hut or the Shoe-House first. I'll probably be using it as a mini-base while I build in this biome and those two seem like the most livable structures. Here're my 'inspiration' photos for what the structures will look like.
This is Baba Yaga's hut
Baba Yaga is a witch from eastern european folklore who lived in a living house that walked around on chicken feet.
And here's the shoe house
It looks like a very kid friendly image which is weird because it's basically a rhyme about an abusive foster mother.
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread.
Then beat them all soundly & sent them to bed."
I plan to start showing people my world once I get my first farm done. It might even be a weekly thing. But I'm wondering, should I make a new thread every time I get a big project done (if I did it wouldn't be weekly)? Or should I keep on adding on to this one like you. I kinda feel like making new ones would either get annoying or get me in trouble.

You already answered your own question then. I would keep adding on to the thread.

Starting your own journal is a great idea, I look forward to seeing it! I'd recommend that you keep adding posts to the original thread rather than starting several. Although occasionally making a separate thread to show off a big, recently finished project is usually ok as long as it's not done too often.
No real update at the moment, but here's a neat action shot of a skeleton shooting me as I build a path.
Taken split second before the arrow you see in mid-flight, just above the skeleton, hit me in the face.
I also faced off against a very well prepared zombie at one point. He had almost a full leather suit (hat & pants and an enchanted leather tunic). I felt a bit bad about killing him, considering the effort he must have went to gearing up like that. (sorry no pic of him)
.
.
(I know that's how some zombies spawn naturally. I just like to come up with RP reasons for things to entertain myself, and a zombie going through a 90's-movie training montage makes me laugh)
That skeleton was sended by direwolf20's enemy the Enderman, go after them.
I really like what are you doing.
Ha, thanks!
And there's just another very minor update today.
I found a nice spot for the shoe-house and cleared the trees from the area. I had my silk touch pick with me so I managed to get a few giant mushroom blocks as well.
The mushroom was just beside the pond but I didn't take a pic before I removed it.
I had to terraform away the small pond that was in the way before I laid down the outline for the footprint of the building (no pun intended).
This really isn't the best shot, but the round part in the foreground will eventually be the dome-shaped toe area of the shoe where the dining room will be. The heel on the other end will have the kitchen, which will lead up to the bedrooms in the second and third floor in the shaft of the boot.
Hopefully as I build, it will become more obvious that this is meant to be a giant shoe.
I am having fun planning out the shoe-house. It's equal parts base and sculpture. Just from doodling plans on graph paper, it should look pretty similar to my inspiration photo (fingers crossed).
The area where I'm building still isn't completely mob-proof, but it's nothing a few dozen more torches and fences can't solve.
Hey do you have a enderman -xp- farm? If you have one would be cool to see people's designs, if you don't why don't you make one? Definetly worth the effort!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, & this is a little embarrassing to admit, but I've actually never killed the dragon on any survival world I've played. And I've only ever even been to the End once or twice on a server I used to play on briefly. It is a goal of mine to beat the dragon on this world, but since they'll be updating the end in a few months when 1.9 comes out, I may wait until after the update before I go to the end for the first time.
Generally I like to leave endermen alone when I see them, the same is true for spiders during the daytime. I'm naturally a bit of a pacifist so unless a mob poses a threat to me, I like to leave them be. As a result, I only have two eyes of ender so far which I had to buy from a cleric in one of my villages. I gave myself a small challenge to see if I could get to the end without killing an enderman. So far iirc, I haven't killed a single one so far on this world. I may still build an enderman farm eventually, but it's fairly low on my list of things to do.
I am looking forward to seeing what the new shulker mob will drop. It might be fun to see if I can design a combo shulker/enderman farm once the update comes out.

I just finished my enderman farm today. They are very worth it! I get from level 27 to 30 in literally 20 seconds, and from level 0 to 30 in probably 60. Plus you'll get tons of enderpearls. I can understand you waiting for 1.9 though. Although, if you've never fought the old dragon before, you might just get murdered when you're fighting the new one (who will be a lot harder).

Wow, it's been a while. First of all, sorry for taking an eternity to update this thread!
I've been away from minecraft for about a year, but I'm finally getting back to my favourite world. The first thing I did was finish building the shoe house. I had to run back to my mesa base halfway through to get more baked clay, but it's finally up! (I do still have to decorate the inside though) Here are the pictures so far.
Before the roof and windows were added:
And after the roof & windows:
I will try to keep updating this thread, without year-long pauses between posts. (again sorry about that, but hey, life happens)
If you are still looking for a Savannah M, try going to
Friendly suggestion: put stuff like that in spoilers. It's the reason I don't give out my two-year-old SSP world's seed; I don't want people telling me where unexplored locations are at.

Glad you did!
Great journal! Cool world! Very interesting, entertaining, and nicely written. Good pics, too.
I also have a vanilla large-biome SSP world and recently returned after an extended hiatus. Unfortunately, I very recently missed my world's second anniversary, July 2, due to a move and a trip both. I've taken a couple other long breaks from Minecraft, which is probably common.
When exactly did you start your world? Do you know the date? Certainly quite some time before this thread, I'd imagine, if you're draining a ocean monument first thing.
It seems to me, from both my own experience and from reading here on the forums, after one solid year, a vanilla SSP world is still pretty young, but well founded. A two-year-old world has at least a few pretty impressive builds, especially to those who never stick with worlds for very long. After three years, it seems, there's at least one, if not more, truly astonishing builds.
Would you be so kind as to upload a new save again? I'd like to run your world through MCMap. I can post the result if you'd like. I have a newer, mid-range computer (i5-6500, GTX 970), so it completes the process fairly quickly.
Thanks for posting!
