How often do folks here make backups of their worlds and/or game folders?
Personally, I make a backup after any play session that lasts for more than about half an hour, especially if something major got done during that session. Then again, I make lots of backups of things in general, such as my custom configuration files (for mods) and non-MineCraft things such as games that I'm working on.
What about you folks? Do you make lots of backups? Do you make them regularly but not too often? Or do you not even bother with making backups?
I'm curious.

The source of my intention isn't really crime prevention; my intention is prevention of the lie! Yeah, welcome to the Scatman's world!
I should, but I never make a backup of my world, the only exception is if my world ends up being really old, I put it in a folder so it doesn't spam up the world selection screen, and it becomes my only backup. When one of my major worlds gets corrupted, i'm sure i'll start making backups.
I always try to, at the least before I switch between 1.8 and a lower version. I've found that 1.7 and 1.8 really don't like each other's chest formats, so backups are nice to have incase I accidentally open a world in the wrong version.
I used to backup my saves about 2-3 times a month when I was playing 1.4.7. I haven't done it at all since starting to play in 1.6.4. Time to fire up WinRAR and backup my save.
The main reason I was doing this regularly in 1.4.7 was because of Mystcraft and a conflict it had with RedPower2 marble generation. If you played that version, XCompWiz, the author of Mystcraft, recommended disabling the Cave World and Skylands Symbols from his mod.
I do not know if there is a similar issue with Mystcraft 10.12 (the current version used in the Direwolf20 1.6.4 FTB modpack) and Project Red, and I have only generated 2 Ages so far and haven't run into any issues yet. And one of those Ages does indeed have the Cave World Symbol in it, as there is such a terrain below the surface.
Back in the days before Beta 1.3 (when the chunk save format was changed to McRegion), I would get chunk errors where parts of my world would revert to their previous condition, destroying whatever I had built or mined there. It seemed to happen if I travelled more than 300 blocks in a short time span, but not if doing so by rail. One time I came back from the Nether to find half my house gone. Luckily none of my chests got hit. After that happened, I started using a utility called MineTime to back up my save after every gaming session.
After every play session in a world, sometimes during a play session. I've gotten corrupted worlds before, unless you are okay with losing everything, you need to make backups. Backups have been a lifesaver for me many times, I make backups for every world I care about. My most important worlds, I backup on Skydrive. So even if lost all of my files and my computer died, I would still have my Minecraft worlds. I do the same for other games I play as well.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
I play lunchtime at work so my game save is copied between home and work and i use this as a kind of back-up also - I have a dedicated memory stick i use, and never delete newer saves straight away, i number them, and delete batches of them later on when their a few months old or something.

i actually backup BEFORE each gaming session. But my setup is a little bit different, but it almost forces me to do a non-automated backup each time I play in case I get too lazy. Plus I play on a higher-end gaming desktop and a mid-range ultrabook. Because of this, I keep all of my Minecraft files (including executables) in Dropbox.
I created 2 .bat files in my Dropbox's Minecraft folder - the same folder that the Minecraft.exe file is located. One .bat file is for running minecraft on my laptop and one for the desktop. The .bat files do 3 different things, it creates a backup of my world into a compressed .zip file with the date and timestamp in the filename (so I can have multiple backups per day) then it makes sure the correct settings/preferences files are in the directory to match the rig i'm playing on, then it calls the minecraft.exe file to start the game
Man, not that many people make frequent backups around here!
I make as many backups as I do because I hate having to redo things. Even if it's something very small, I can't stand having to redo it, especially because of a simple accident.
I use a program that my friend showed me. There is a lot you can do with it including setting automatic backups at your desired times and using custom directories. I think it's really nice to use especially if you're like me and play in a world a lot. If you want, you can check this out for yourself:
By the way, if you're trying to install on Windows 8, do not change the installation directory of the program. Otherwise it will not open correctly; causing you to force-close the program.

And, not having learned my lesson, the only other time I made backups was before I upgraded to 1.8
Just testing.
You can just call me Canary.
