There are many mods out there. Some make the game fair and some, don't. I think Minimap mods are some of the bad ones. To me minimaps are cheating. They allow you to see any op structures in your area, find the biggest caves and warn you when a creeper is about to blow up your house! Imagine times without them. No finding caves so easy, no finding big structures you didn't work for and...well, I like the creeper part <----He doesn't like the last part. Anyway, what do you think? If you don't agree I am cool, just don't yell about it like a 5 year old!

The cavemap and entities radar are optional, and are disabled and blocked on servers by default. It all depends on how you were to use it. I mainly use it for the waypoint feature. It's very useful in Tekkit Classic, since you can't teleport to coordinates, nor turn on keep inventory to respawn. (Which in my opinion, is more fun, since it adds challenge). Another thing it's good for is it's big map. Looking for a specific biome? That's where it's also useful. All in all, it depends on how you use it.

You alright there, mate? This is my signature! Guess what?! It's stupid AND dumb at the exact same time! Imagine that.
As a matter of fact, 5-yr old kids yell about everything - I know, I got two of them.
Back to topic: if I use minimap (which i don't anymore) I switch monsters off. Then it's no cheating in my opinion.
Well, just because yours yell, doesn't mean they all do. It's an annoying generalization.
Minecraft is a sandbox game where the players are free to do what they want and therefore minimap mods or whatever are not considered cheating as long as it is single player.
But in multiplayer, it is unfair because it gives you an advantage over other players. Most servers probably block it, I imagine.
I find it already a little bit cheating if you use the coördinaties in the debug screen. A real man find his way through the world with only a compass and eventually some decent beacons.
To me, cords are fine because it's like using a real compass and a real map. You mark someplace and use cords to get there using a compass instead in mine craft the compass points to spawn! but hey, we all have our own opinions!

It's not cheating I use mini maps to get where I need to go. I still get killed by creepers ,skeletons and still manage to fall into lava sometimes all while using a mini map.
Minimaps aren't really cheaty. Except for entity radar which is really cheaty because it allows you to find players in PvP who are hiding. However, I don't currently use them.
I really do think its how you use it. For me I think it depends on the purpose of the map and what the minimap is capable of. For example: say your trying to simulate a MMORPG experience complete with elves, dwarves, magic and everything on minecraft. every mmorpg player knows that the minimap is just part of the experience. I do agree that some features should be limited, like knowing where other players are on a stealth pvp map. Or knowing where ores are when you dig.
Maybe it would be best to have a settings menu for minimaps where you can turn off and on certain features.

What if the Wicked Witch of the West had huge feet?

I remove my mini map if I go on servers unless it's a casual creative or survival server.

Ah. The good old age-generalization. Jeez man. How about you find an insult more mature than "5 year old".
