In my main world I mainly eat baked potatoes, carrots and melons. I carry wheat and mushroom stew with me but hardly use them these days. I never eat the meats any more as I prefer just to breed them these and only have stacks of chicken and steak when I've been super breeding for feathers (for arrows, now on my 8th stack, though most are collected from skeletons) and leather for bookcases for the library respectively.

Maybe you could tell me. Do you have alternate uses for feathers? I'm building up with them, and I have three infinity bows.
Maybe make written books for trading? Make 1 written book, stacks of book & quill (feather), and copy the written book with the book and quill(s). But really, just trading the paper by itself is easier.
Other than that, not much. We need a feather block now! Something you can fall onto and it reduces the fall damage maybe? Eh, it'll never happen.
On topic: I like to change food types each time I go through a stack. Makes me feel like they "taste" different, and keeps things interesting instead of just spamming wheat at cows all the time.
Next I plan to make a gold farm so I can eat those tasty golden carrots.

Everfree Server - A small & friendly survival build server for older 'Crafters.
It takes a lot of time and work to farm, unless you have automatic system, but then you would have potatoes/carrots.
It isn't very good food, worse saturation and normal food value than many other easy to get foods.
Is it just because bread is so easy to get early on?
If you eat 3 bread at a time you'll get a pretty good amount of saturation; one bread has 6 saturation so three will restore 18 points, nearly filling up your saturation (20 max); this is my typical eating habit since only poisoning and the rare close creeper explosions take more than a heart or two by the time my hunger gets down that far (this also applies to baked potatoes, which are the same as bread in 1.8, and even before (I still play an older version) if you ate three you only gain two more saturation points (only saturation really matters for health regeneration as you need 18 hunger to heal), I also frequently eat two at a time, restoring 12 hunger and 14.4 saturation). I've even forgotten about my hunger until I started to starve on several occasions.
As mentioned, abandoned mineshafts can have enough bread in chests that I can solely subsist on it while exploring them, cave spiders and all (see above about poisoning, as well as Instant Damage from witches, which are reduced by Protection on armor but I only have two pieces with it, reducing damage by 30% on average (14.3 hearts of damage to get down to 0 health); my armor is less effective overall than unenchanted full diamond - unless you fall of course, as I also have Feather Falling IV boots).
Of course, since you need three wheat to make one bread that means you need a much larger wheat farm vs. a potato farm (4.5 times bigger without Fortune, 9 times with; prior to 1.8 these figures are 5.4 and 10.8 times). On the other hand, you do need to cook potatoes as otherwise they are nearly as useless as rotten flesh, but getting fuel isn't much of a problem; the 2,000+ coal ore I mine in a typical play session spent caving, minus that used for torches and smelting the iron/gold I find, can cook twice the food I've ever cooked (even more if I still used Fortune, which triples the surplus I get after torches and smelting).
Wheat can be used to breed cows though, preferably using a Looting+Fire Aspect sword to kill them, or chickens, as I used to do. Also, enchanting golden tools to get Fortune on a pickaxe or axe (not shovel, as they mine farmland faster) is actually practical for potatoes, since blocks that instantly break don't damage tools, thus circumventing the 1.8 anvil repair limitations.
I eat steak cuz' they're pretty easy to get and provide the biggest food saturation. (atleast I think so.), I also eat apples and cake. This is my main food source.

I eat hotdogs, french fries, cakes, lollipops, burgers, wings, and endermen, ocelots and the all-so-exotic whale.
I usually used to eat bread because I was able to get alot of it but since it had little saturation I decided to move to golden carrots for a while but then I killed a bunch of pigs and had 3 stacks of cooked pork so I ate that and now I usually spend most of my time on Minecraft as an admin so food isn't a worry for me

Yes, but you need chickens for that...
Plus, you get loads of armour from zombie grinders.
I only consider diamond armor to be worthwhile though, and that is a lot of grinding given that there is only a 0.04% chance of diamond armor, out of a maximum 15% chance of any kind of armor (never mind that I've never made a grinder or consider them worthwhile, for drops or XP). The only armor drops I ever bother with are helmets since I don't normally wear one, and even if it were diamond I'd just let it break (I already have one with Respiration III and Aqua Affinity I so enchantments don't matter either).

Meh, I live the poor man's life. Second-hand gold armour 24/7.
Pi, I commend you for utilizing items in the 1.8 update. However, mutton is a somewhat less efficient method than the other meats. It is suitable sustenance when one has just started a survival world, as it also provides wool for a bed. After a bed is obtained, the player should have applicable resources to obtain more efficient and obtainable dietary possibilities. I had a whole spiel written down about the other animals and their utility, but I deleted it to cease rambling.
Alright, but i found lots of sheeps in my world.
Thank you anyways.
I usually go with Steak & Potatoes as my main food options. I always have Potatoe farms in my worlds no matter what & I usually have Cow farms sometimes.
Before I have a wheat farm (and thus also before I have a cow farm), I eat apples. I pick seeds that spawn me around oak or dark oak trees, so I have access to plenty of apples. This is especially true since I use TreeCapitator and therefore have all of the tree's blocks (including leaves) break when I cut one of the trunk blocks with an axe (though it also consumes hunger based on the number of log blocks broken) and have all of the tree's apples fall at once.
When I have a wheat farm, I usually mostly eat bread. It's my food for most situations since it is easy to get (since I just need to get wheat to make it).
Once I have a cow farm, I eat steak when I'm out hunting monsters. I don't really need the saturation from steak unless I'm going to be taking lots of damage, after all.
I also sometimes eat fish. This was more true before 1.7 when I could count on just catching regular fish, though, since I find catching blowfish kind of annoying (I don't really use potions, so they are useless for me) and it just generally seems like a less reliable food source now.

i usually hunt for mutton first, since sheep seem extra common on my worlds, then chop down giant mushrooms if near roofed forest, or cocoa if in jungle. i then farm bread, beef, and possibly carrots. if I find melons early on I make an auto melon farm, if not I autofarm chicken. chicken is usually what I end up eating for the rest of the map, as it is fairly good, close but not quite equivalent to beef, and is very easy to farm without any player interaction whatsoever in a very small space. I almost never farm pigs, as they don't drop anything other than meat, unlike the other food animals, and take carrots, which aren't always easy to find early on. I will hunt them early on tho.

I know everyone else wants you to click their dragons...
When I started out, I ate rotten flesh, apples, and random animals I came across. Later I mostly ate chicken, because they laid eggs and could be bred with seeds. Now that I have a stable farm, I normally eat chicken or beef, but I also bring baked potatoes when I'm exploring as a cheap way to keep my health up.
