redstone inverter (a block with redstone torch on a side)
basically once the redstone dust runs out, replace the last one with any block. place a redstone torch on the opposite side of the redstone dust, on the block. repeat the process to any length. BUT!!! u must have an even number of inverters. for example, if u have only one inverter, the outcome will be the opposite. or have an odd amount if u want the outcome to be the opposite

Why would anyone use that over a repeater now that we have them?

Uh.. it takes MORE redstone to make a regular double inverter then the repeater block we have now, so.. your logic is lost on me, completely.
As for the guy saying it reverses input, thanks tips. Now read the OP and realize the OP is asking how to -extend- how far redstone power goes, not invert it.

"Where the **** is my ceiling?!"
Neither funny nor contributing, sir.

You can also use an invertor. Useful if you're short on redstone. (Although chances of running out of redstone are low)

uh....
You can make the outcome opposite?

Awesome ideas (not mine):
The Aether
Oceancraft
Geocraft
Farmcraft
Google these to find out what they are!
If you're short on redstone.
true true
