I’m back, everyone! Just FYI, I started this journal just before I went on my trip, so it started a while ago. There will be a little bit of temporal weirdness. Don't worry, no Time Gears have been stolen to my knowledge.
Chapter 12: Who wants to be a Wizard? I’d rather be a...
So, funny story, I finally got me and person a working server, so I went to get him. I met up with him and we were rushing back, but it becomes night juuust before we can cross the lake. We rush into my old hut, just in time for a giant flaming arrow to hit the wall outside.
So, here we are, crouching in a cold, poorly made hut with no light. I whacked the torch off the wall so it doesn’t tell the zombies outside we’re in here, because they can and will KO the door. We sit like this, barely breathing, for the entire night. By the end of it, Person has hypothermia, so I rush out to kill the bad things guarding the door.
It doesn’t work. At all. Death Thirteen, Death by heroically rushing the monsters guarding the door and failing miserably. I rush back with a mattock and smash them all to death, then get my stuff back and lead us both back to my house. I show him around, and log off for the night.
I come back in the morning to notice that I have very low durability on my Freezy Armor, especially the helmet. Looks like I need a replacement. However, I’m getting tired of conventional armor. It’s heavy and hot and looks too clunky. I’d like to get something better- How about some Mage Robes, from Ars Magica 2? The recipe requires a ton of brown wool, though, and I don’t have any Cocoa beans. I know where a jungle is, but I’m thinking I’ll just leave it be until I get the Desert Novas. I’ll be able to get them over there, too. For now, I’ll just wear chain stuff.
I’ve reached the east coast of the continent, just need to make myself a dock and a sailboat now. I sleep, and suddenly, there’s a funny looking spider with purple eyes. I kill it because being stabbed in the back when not looking is not fun, and it drops this:
Oookay, a spider spawn egg. I have no idea what ill do with that, but that’s cool. Unfortunately, as I’m admiring it, I suddenly hear a distinct hissing noise. I explode, but live with half a heart left. I jump into the water for safety, and hide in a small cave just under the surface I already slept in and lit up.
This is the part where I vanish for two weeks and feel terrible about it because Person’s paying for the server and I wasn’t able to use it with him
Back, and in the two weeks I was gone, a ton of mods updated. I have updated Applied Energistics, Bibliocraft, Botania, Chisel, CoFH Core(I still get the modcycle error though, no surprise there), CoFHLib, Enviromine, Fossils and Archeology Revival, Hunger Overhaul, Mantle, Mrcrayfish’s Furniture Mod, Pneumaticraft, Random Things, Tinkerer’s Construct, Thaumic Energistics(Contemplating removing it though, I’m not seeing much use in keeping it), Thaumic Tinkerer, and Witchery. There have been a couple of config edits, including the fact that I have disabled Iguana Tweak’s disabling of vanilla tools. I’m doing this because, well, frankly, tinkerer’s construct tools get ridiculously overpowered and outclass nearly every other mod. The other people on the server still like the mod, so I’m not removing it, but I’ll be switching to mostly vanilla tools from here on out, and I may drop the Silverfish Swatter. Maybe not- I don’t have any other effective way of getting rid of the little demons. Also, I’ve done... Something, to Random Things, with Dulci’s help, that will make for a much, much scarier world. You’ll see what I mean soon.
In addition, I have added Decocraft and Thaumic Exploration. I have removed Shadersmodcore, Mariculture, and Ars Magica 2. Shaders were nice and all, but having them active crashes the game when Fastcraft is installed, and my overall performance is a little more important to me than pretty pictures. No need to use it as a crutch for pretty things anymore. Mariculture, I wasn’t really going to do much with in the first place, and it was causing numerous enchantment ID conflicts and name weirdness with other mods, so I dropped it as well. Bees > Fish anyway.
I know I was going to play a lot with Ars Magica 2, but I decided to remove it for the reason that it’s extremely buggy right now, and the creator has abandoned the project and forbidden anyone for picking it up or maintaining it. I don’t want to have to carry a mod like that around on a world I intend to keep for a long time(that’s just asking for world-ending problems), so I removed it. I’ll have to repurpose and redecorate the Ars Magica room, but that’s alright.
However, this means that my current quest is fairly unneeded. I had this cool boat thing mostly built and ready to show you guys, but I’ll save it for later. It’s a really small sailboat with a lot of slabs and no sail. It would probably sink in real life, since I’m fairly terrible with boats in Minecraft, but oh well- I’ll either finish it eventually, or just leave it be once I build Maya.
Anyway, with those updates out of the way, I’d better head home. I’ve got a relatively large amount of planning ahead of me to get started with the next few mods I want to play with.
Of course, I have to decide which I want to do first, since there’s three big ones I really, really, really want to try. First, though, I should head back to my house.
Safe and sound at home, but something doesn’t seem right here. Why is the light all-
Oh. Crap. Good thing I got here before that started, or I would be in for a world of hurt. One of the new people you guys haven’t seen yet has already fallen victim to this, he got murdered in his first-night-hole because it wasn’t lit and mobs can spawn whenever they want in a blood moon.
Oh dear lord. Maybe I should kill those lights so they aren’t drawn to them like moths to a flame. Anyway, I’m getting hungry, so I go make some food. Three burgers, because America. I eat one, then I notice-
All my foody food items have a “rotted” percentage. I don’t know what is doing this all the sudden, but I may have to work on making a proper restaurant sooner than I thought. For now, though, I need to get started on this mod before I go insane from wanting to. I tear down my old Infusion Altar, it’s not needed anymore. I need the space for something else anyway.
To start off, I grab 3 books, 2 Iron, some wood, a stick... You can already tell where this is going. I go back down and grab some feathers and ink sacs, since I forgot them. Finally! Now I can get to work. I craft myself a Bookcase and two Iron Caps, and with it and the stick, craft this:
Yup yup, I couldn’t resist. Not even the fear of feeling like I’m copying Zeno could keep me away for long- Thaumcraft’s just too cool of a mod to neglect. I place the bookcase down, whack it with the wand, and get the Thaumonomicon out of it.
Oh thaumonomicon, how I’ve missed you. I immediately read everything, and make myself a Magic Bench Mark II, along with an extra set of scribing tools. I go to start researching Research Expertise, but most of them are question marks.
Oh, right. I need to discover aspects first. I am definitely not going to use a cheat sheet this time, I’m going to use what I know and scan everything instead.
I craft this(Good thing I got some gold off of the infernal mob drops! I knew they’d come in handy), and get to scanning all the things. I go to scan beneath me, and I see this:
I think the thaumometer is telling me I need to shower, because apparently I’m giving off a scent. I’ll get to that in a few minutes.
I’m walking down the stairs to scan ores, and I see this. Ha! A way to tell what a stone is! It’s a total pain to mine with this, but this will definitely come in handy with avoiding nests in cave walls. However, it also tells be down in the bottom right: “To understand this, you need to study things that move.” Awesome, so now it gives you a handy little tip as to what goes into what you’re trying to research. That’s an amazing addition, I am very pleased. Back to scanning.
lol. Who knew burgers held such knowledge?
A TON of scanning later, and I have this. Time to get to researching, which is significantly more fun than actual researching. I would NOT want to be a thaumaturge in real life. It sounds fun, but the amount of research sounds like a total nightmare.
Wow, that was easier than I remember. Well, Research will be even easier from now on, woo-hoo! I’ll hold off on getting Research Mastery for now because it looks glowy and evil and ;_;
Next up is Advanced Node Tapping. After this one, I’m not going to show how I finish a research unless there’s something particularly cool about it. No need to spoil the fun, yes?
That is that, now I can drain nodes faster. Cool, but not what I was looking for. Next up is Node Preserver... Wait, it requires what? I don’t even know what that unknown aspect could even be, I thought I’d gotten them all. Oh well- I’ll store it for later completion. No need to waste time on it, I can’t use it just yet anyway. By the way- I just found out you can store research notes in Bibliocraft bookcases. That’s awesome.
Next up is Gold Wand caps- wait, I can’t do that either? what is this magical aspect that I have yet to discover? I need it, I must research everything. But what could it be?
Also, will whoever broke the thaumonicon please step forward? I am really not liking this. One bit.
This is a research I can do, Straw Golems. I can’t wait to start using them!
Research complete! Now I just need to figure out what to do with them.
I figured out why the thaumonomicon was broken, it was because the texturepack doesn’t have the “buyable research” icon, which means the blame is entirely on Dulci and Misa. Don’t feel bad though, Dulci, I don’t mind that much now that I know it’s not some mod breaking it and being stupid by releasing such a blatantly broken copy of an addon to thaumcraft. I’ll use vanilla texturepack while I thaumcraft.
Remember this node? Draining time! Each of the aspects is just enough to fill the wand but not get eaten up.
I also scan and drain the Sinister node up above my house. It doesn’t have enough Perdito to fill the wand, but I get it about half full on that. Now, I go back down because looking at the aspects on the node made me think of what the missing aspect for the researches. I scan a bit of gold, and check them- sure enough, it’s greedygrabby aspect.
I notice that the area where the crafting altar was is pretty dark, so I F7 it to see if mobs can spawn- sure enough, they can. I place a torch and go back to researching, but I’m not doing it for long before I hear fire. I turn around and- My floor is on fire! I put it out fairly quickly, and identify the culprit, the torch lit it on fire. Seriously? What is doing that? That’s just not nice. I log off for the night and hear reports from the other players that their houses were murdered by lighting too. The culprit is still at large.
I’m getting pretty hungry, so I head downstairs to get some food. When I reach it, though, I find out, to my extreme displeasure, that this has happened.
All my food. All of it is gone. What the heck? Why is this happening? Not all hope is lost, however, because hovering over the rotted food reveals that it is from Enviromine! I knew that update had to have something in it. I check the congif in the morning, and sure enough- Eviromine has successfully trolled everyone in the server. It’s rotted all of my, Yuna’s, and Person’s food, and burned down Yuna’s and Blaze’s houses. I turn both off for now until we have better ways of managing it- I don’t mind it that much, but the others do, especially because Yuna’s house burned down in the middle of a blood moon while I was sleeping. She died. A lot.
For now, I head over to my farm to get some stuff to make sandwiches with.
That’s the gold wand caps research done, now to Node Preserver...
Actually, I just finished it, but I’m sure you’re not interested in looking at pictures of “research unlocked” over and over again. I’ll do Master Node Tapping now.
Master Node Tapping complete. Next, I’d like to make myself some Giggles of Revealing, because I’m terrible at seeing nodes otherwise. First, I have to research it. I finish it(it was super easy), and purchase Enchanted Fabric. Now, I’m going to have to go out and get a lot of wool and string, and scan everything I possibly can in the process.
Before I do, though, I’m going to steal an idea from Zeno and get some markers to mark nodes with. Black for Perdito, White for Ordo, Red for Ignis, Lime Green for Terra, Light Blue for Aqua, Yellow for Aer. I’ll copy Zeno again and use it to mark the most prominent color in the node. It really is such an excellent idea, yes? Please don't hate me for stealing this ;_;
Weird, the marker names are broken for me. I wonder why?
Found my first node, with hopefully many more to come! I need to fill up my wand before I can really do anything, so it’s a good idea for me to be doing- oh, crap, I forgot my shears. Oops. I go back to get them, and head back out. I find another Aura node, this time with Ignis as the biggest- but I am a total idiot and forget to drain it. Oh well- now I know where it is, so I can head back to suck the magic out of it.
I also find this thing. A greatwood tree, with spiders living in it. Quickly, I dive down, and place torches all over the floor, hoping to scare off any spiders before they see me, but alas, one gets out and bites me before I can squish it. I go down into the nest, where they’re all sleeping peacefully while slowly burning alive under the heat of the torches(spiders have a very hard time waking up when it’s warm and light out, that’s why spiders are so docile in the daytime), and grab anything valuable inside. I keep the nest intact, it could prove useful later.
This is the loot within, not especially excellent, but I don’t mind. The base of the tree was in this wonderful little grotto, so I wasn’t able to see the nest before. I’ll remember where this is, and definitely do something with it later.
Good news and bad news, and buggy news. I found an awesome bright node right here, with 80 terra and 35 Aqua. However, also right next to it is a sinister hill thing with a node inside. I hear zombies from inside, too. Not going near that thing.
Buggy news is that the server isn’t noticing I exist on the map, and when I try to place a marker for the node, it kicks me and gives me an internal server error. I remember where I am, though, so it’s okay. I’ll bug zeno about it eventually.
Oh hey, it’s another infested tree, this one out in the open. Let’s go check it out-
Owowowowow stupid spiders, thank god I killed them all, now i just need to regenerate. Wait, is that a witch? Does she seem my plight, and come to rescue me? Have I finally found the one nice witch?
I guess not, she walked up until she was standing over me(I was lying on the ground, bleeding to death), and sneered, and then dropped a potion on me, dissolving and killing me. Death Fourteen, Spiteful Witch kills me instead of helping me.
On the way back, I run into two Lucky Block structures, with a silverwood in the middle. Pretty cool, I’ll have to remember this guy for my own silverwoods. I dub this location: The Tree of Luck.
And now, for a bunch of pictures of me finding more cavespider-infested greatwoods and lucky blocks and maybe a node or two.
HEY, NODE! YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT, I SAW YOU DO THAT, YOU SNEAKY LITTLE THIEF. I SAW WHAT YOU DID TO THAT POOR SQUID. I’M GONNA SPREAD THE PICTURE OF YOUR GLOWY LITTLE FACE ALL OVER THE MINECRAFT FORUMS. HOWS THAT FEEL, HUH? HUH!? YOU SUCK, NODE!
Literally. Huehuehuehue-
This is the loot I’ve gotten so far on this trip. Pretty good loot, though nothing exceptionally spectacular. Anyway, I’m gonna end this now, so that you guys actually have something to read for once in ~2 weeks. Sorry for the wait, everyone! Also, forgive me if this one reads a little weird. It’s been too long, and I’m still trying to get back into it.
Next Episode, More thaumcrafting and maybe another mod~!
Ahaha you updated enviromine with the food rot and the burny torches and the earthquakes and the gases and.. yeah. I didn't update that yet. I've been looking into it and checking it out but I'm not ready to unleash it on my world just yet. Yes, I'm a chickenduck but I also have a lot of recipes that rely on steak, for example and the half rotten NBT data stopped me from crafting them. At least it did the last time I checked. Earthquakes would be pretty cool, though. So would gas explosions.. hmmm
I'll have to check that Thaumcraft folder in the resource pack too. Thanks for picking that up. Looks like it needs a good update. If you wanted, you could just download the Soartex Thaumcraft mod addon thingy and drag the relevant folder into your resource pack. I'm off to check that out now so I'll let you know. Battered Old Stuff has probably updated too so I'll go check that out. I love his textures.
wait. You left hungry nodes on?!! Lucky it was "only" a squid that got pulled in and not you with all that loot.
You've inspired me to get into survival. In fact I have a base in progress along with a huge mine but no diamonds yet.All my old worlds were always on peaceful. This time I started on normal and its going great!
Great to see you posting again! I'm envious of Yuna and Person - bet it's a lot of fun to play in your world even if you do die an awful lot Sorry you can't use Ars Magica but Thaumcraft is a lot of fun. Some of the recent changes and promised changes look really great - I wish I were playing 1.7.10 rather than 1.7.2 for that.
When you say Blood Moon lets mobs spawn anywhere does that mean anywhere anywhere? A fully lit half-slab right next to the player?
I gotta say the rotting food business doesn't look like much fun. I like things that make me do extra work as long as it's varied and interesting (Thaumcraft, I'm looking at you) but I don't like having to do things on a schedule.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.
By spawn anywhere, that means that the minimum spawning distance is brought from whatever the default is(36, isn't it?) to 3. That means that if you're in a dark place, you're totally screwed.
I made a new skin. Anyone guess what who is? First time trying 2x2 eyes.
Chapter 13: The Lucky Node-Filled Chapter
I decided to name this chapter The Lucky Chapter, because this is the first thing I see since the last chapter.
I punch it, and I get... 8 Hay Bales. Okay, not the best loot, but certainly better than certain other “rewards” I’ve gotten before. “Look up” comes to mind. RIP that world.
Anyway, I’ve gotten myself the secondary goal of finding Yuna/Person’s base this episode, I wanna check out where they’ve been living so I can arrange orbital spy cameras rigged to atomic laser things so I can murder Yuna if she tries to witch me send friendly gifts and establish a witchery-golem trade route.
Anyway, continuing to explore southwards along the east coast, as I haven’t actually mapped that area yet. I find another Greatwood Tree with spiders living in it.
The amount of them I’ve been finding is starting to worry me, I may have a serious bug infestation on this continent. I mean, really, the amount of spider trees and silverfish nests is ridiculous. I may need to do something about them at some point, before they really get out of hand, like Spiderzilla did. I go to light it up and grab the loot(it is SO convenient that spiders become docile when heated), when suddenly, I hear some extremely creepy noises. I look around, and eventually, the tall, dark, and handsome culprit emerges from behind the tree.
ENDERMAN DETECTED! ENDERMAN DETECTED! ENDERMAN DETECTED! I want to kill him, but I know that if I use the Silverfish Swatter, he’ll just teleport away. After all, blood is a significant portion water, and.. I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but it seems like swatting hundreds of thousands of bugs with this thing has eventually led to it becoming flammable. Might have something to do with the fiery silverfish, but whatever. Endermen don’t like being lit aflame, so I switch to my axe to take him out.
Oooh, this would be really rough if I hadn’t taken the precaution of placing blocks over my head. As it is, I lose half my health from the Withering. I kill him, but he yields no pearls. Darn, I don’t think I have any at home at all. I grab the loot from the chest, and continue southwards.
After an uneventful while, I hit the southern corner. I start to follow it, and find...
A village! According the Blaze, however, he has plans for this village, and it’s not very close to my place anyway, so I leave it be. Speaking of Blaze, by the way, just after I ran into this place, he dies(well, it was sometime around then, I wasn’t really paying attention), and asks for my help in finding his stuff again. I, being the amazing, inherently altruistic person I am, who was going in that direction anyway, decide to assist him in reclaiming his corpse by protecting him and guiding him there by use of my map.
I find a node at the southern edge of the snowy forest on the way there. Nothing special, but useful nonetheless.
I sneak a scan at Blaze’s back while we’re walking there. Looks like he is an intelligent, farming, trading human. I see much wheat in his future. Also, he has Permutatio, a fairly obnoxious to get aspect... Interesting, very interesting. I can see some uses for this in the future, potentially...
Oh myyyy~ Look at this beautiful little thing. Marked, for sure, I am SO grabbing this asap. This is a wonderful terra node. Now, if only I could find a node with a larger-than-insignificant amount of Ignis...
Anyway, I finish escorting Blaze over to his stuff, and head south again. I start going down a cape south of that village, and see some islands. I’m about to turn west, when I see something very strange.
Is that... a beacon? If I had a map mod installed, I’d check to make sure I didn’t have a random marker there, but I don’t have either, so I decide to investigate.
What the heck? Is that some sort of magic flying beaconwell? I investigate, and it seems it is. 9 iron blocks and a beacon. I have no idea why it was there, but nobody on the server has anywhere near the tech to fight and kill a Wither yet(my evil pack takes care of that ), so I assume it’s worldgen and loot it as such. I’m now one beacon richer, and I know one thing I can use that for, and there are probably others. Woot!
Walking along the south coast(there’s no TD-filled beach though), I find myself running into another one of these meteor things. In the chest inside, there is-
Another diamond! Excellent! That makes for two diamonds, I just need something to use them on. I grab it and some of the glowstone, and continue my walk. I still haven’t found Yuna Base 1, despite hearing from Person that it’s on the south coast. It must be quite a ways away.
Blaze found a magic wishing well and tossed a coin in. This was the amazing, hilarious result. He actually survived exploding, but a random sheep decided to kill him. RIP
Ha! I’ve finally found the Yuna Base! Let’s check it out- Hopefully they won’t mind. Don’t get the wrong idea, it’s not like I’m going to inspect for evil witcherystuff or anything. Baka.
This is a pretty nice place, actually. You can see Person’s heads on the wall over there, I’m glad he’s taken a page out of my book and used them for decoration. I look around a bunch, but all I really find are plants, soaryn chests, and a shower. I go north- Now that I’ve found this, I can go back to my base.
Just in case you needed confirmation that was a beacon, btw. It’s a beacon.
WooooOOOOooooOOOOooo, orderly tools are so spooky, so sinister. Maybe this is a metaphor/prophecy for something? Maybe something about potential dystopian futures that involve mass slavery and mind control, where all the golempeople live their lives doing the same thing, over and over again, all the while thinking they are happy and this is normality, until one day, one headstrong teenage golem breaks free of the control in a freak accident and somehow gains a superpower via a small gold-lined gemstone, who embarks out on a journey to defeat the villainous overlord who started it all, and free the golempeople from her control, and somewhere along the way, meets a fairly useless female golem that somehow managed to break free herself, which of course spawns a romantic subplot, until she becomes captured by the evil overlord as a hostage to make the golemsue give up, so get gets captured and right as he’s about to be put under control again, he has some epiphany about ‘the power of love’ or something, which of course makes him turn into a supergolem and engage in epic climax war with the evil overlord, eventually emerging victorious and saving his femalegolemfriend and rescuing all of his people from the control of the overlord, and everyone lived happily ever after until the evil overlord respawned, got her stuff back, and nearly killed the protagonist before tossing him out into a wasteland island with no life and assuming control of the golempeople once more, prompting a sequel that will inevitably end up even more terrible than the original.
Oops, did I just randomly ramble into making the plot for a generic PG-13 adventure movie, all in one ridiculous run-on sentence? I think I might have. Let’s get back to the present, and stop worrying about the future.
I’m about halfway home when this happens. I immediately lock myself in a 1x2 hole against a cliff for safety, and sit there for a few minutes, before eventually deciding to just log off and actually write the writey portion of this. That’s why the style of my journal has changed, btw, I can’t just write as I go anymore, since I can’t pause the game. I have to remember how I felt afterwards, so it doesn’t really sound as interesting. Sorry! I do everything in chunks now, and I try to do them as soon as possible.
And we’re back! A couple days later, actually, real-life hasn’t been particularly kind. Today, I’ll start with a picture of a meteor crashed into a meteor. Not to mention, it’s a meteor with a chest inside.. crashed into a meteor with a chest inside. What luck is that? Pretty lucky. Let’s go check out what is inside the chest inside the meteor crashed into the meteor with a chest inside.
OH. MY. GOLEM. LOOK AT ALL THOSE GEMS! HOLYCRAPTHERESSOMANYGEMSANDTWODIAMONDSANDAKREKNORITEHELMET!
OH MY GOD! IS LOOT LIKE THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? I JUST GG’D THE ENTIRE METEOR MOD. RIGHT THERE. INSTANTLY. HOLY CRAP.
In other news, this node has a weird shadow around it for no apparent reason. I remember to fill my wand with the perdito inside this time, though.
This node looked like it would be a nice aqua/terra node, but it’s actually a nice aqua/herba node. Sneaky plant aspect sneaking into my nodes. That sounds like something golems would worship. Hmmm...
Whew! Almost home now. First thing I’m gonna do is max out my meteor shield with this utter overabundance of red meteor gems, so that the landscape won’t take any more damage than it already has. I scale the mountain to check the sheild, and I see...
Interesting, does the shield automatically collect blocks from the meteors it smashes for me? It looks like it, cause I didn’t put these in. So that’s what the inventory there is for... Interesting, I may automate that eventually. By automate, I mean automatically suck out the items it grabs and put them somewhere else. For now, though, I just take the stuff it caught and put the meteor gems into the upgrade slots.
Now, with that done, I need to find a place to put this Beacon I found. I’m very pleased with myself for finding it, now I can apply some minor status all over my base.
Eventually, I decide on this spot. It’s in the convoluted staircase between my bedroom, my kitchen, and my trophy room, and it seems like a perfect little spot to put it in. There’s a problem with this, though, and that is that this is a beacon, and beacons have to be able to see the sky to function. I placed it in my underground cavebase, so you can probably see the problem here. To remedy it, I dig a 1x1 hole straight up, get lucky and don’t hit any silverfish or other parts of my base, and eventually reach the surface. I place a glass block there, and one in the hole above the beacon. Beacons, as far as I know, can go through glass, so this is fine, effective, and safe.
As it’s just a 3x3 beacon, I only have the option between Speed and Haste, so I pick Speed, since I’ve been noticing moving around my base is kinda slow, since it’s pretty spread out.
This is what the beam looks like going up there. It goes straight through the glass, so it works just fine, and I now have a minor speed boost whenever I’m in my base! Woot! Anyways, though, now I’m getting really hungry, so I head down to the storage room I have yet to sort and put the food chests in the kitchen for. I grab some stuff to make burgers with, and go to make a few.
I go to make it, but- ugh! the hamburger recipe calls for a raw steak, not a cooked one, and all my steaks are cooked. Darnit- I make due with just a grilled cheese. Now, one of the people on the server lives in the spawn forest, or, well, they sometimes live in the spawn forest, because half the time they’re dead. Catlover has requested my help in making a shelter that won’t be exploded(he’s on his 6th house by now), and in making a smeltery to actually make tools with the hordes of copper and tin he’s finding. I go to help him, but I’m not sure what I’ll do, but I’ll try and help anyway /o/. On the way there, I grab as many food plants as I can, to make up for my losses during the Great Rot. Yuna and Person keep telling me to come see something they’ve made. I’m not sure what it is, I’ll check it out once I have helped Cat.
Found another node on the way over, it’s a very big terra node. ANOTHER very big terra node. Is a single node with ignis too much to ask?
Met cat at spawn, instantly scanned him. Catlover is apparently a dark, moving, crafting human individual. I’ll leave him to decide on what he thinks of that.
I gave him a bit of food, and he instantly decides to toss me these. Dear lord, how do you die that much? That’s simply ridiculous. Anyway, we waste no(read: a lot) time, and head to the remains of his house. It’s a sad sight, there’s craters and holes everywhere. I fill them in with stone, and we both sleep inside.
Even more heads in here, wow.
He also tosses me some lostbooks he’s clearly not interested in reading. I’ll take them home and stow them away in my bookshelves. Anyway, I forgot to melt down the stone for seared bricks to give him, so I leave to go visit Yuna and Person- I’ll bring him the bricks later. On the way there, I ruin into a crater with this floating over it. I laughed. Poor Blaze, my pack is too evil.
Also, quite nearby, I found an oxymoronic node.
Sinister, bright, with aqua, terra, perdito, and zombie aspect. Not something you see every day, I didn’t know sinister and bright could happen in the same node. This makes for the... second bright node I’ve found? I think? I can’t remember if there are any more aside from the other one in the middle of the forest.
This is something I notice a lot around freezarate meteorites. I’m not sure what causes these strange taller snow blocks(weren’t they supposed to be in an update at one point but never actually made it in or something?). I’d like to know if they’re replicable, they look good for decorations.
Perdito, Terra. Nothing special, but I love how this one looks for some reason. Maybe I’ll capture it purely for decoration at some point.
I’m almost at Yuna Base 1, and I saw a node, so I went to go check it out. I look at it, and...
What the heck? A bright, aer, tentacle node? Since when was there a tentacle aspect? What even- I should be wary of this thing. Who knows what it could turn into, I don’t even know what this tentacle aspect is made of. I think I want to capture this thing anyway, though. It’s best if I can contain it before it does anything perverted evil. Plus, it’s a nice, pale pink color.
What is it about perdito nodes that makes them look so good? Like, seriously, it doesn’t matter what else is in the node, if it is perdito with another aspect, it just looks awesome. Weird.
I’ve arrived at the Yuna base, and I instantly scan Yuna. Yuna is apparently a wooden humanoid automaton/puppet studded with gemstones, according to the thaumometer. Interesting.
Yuna gets a scan, Person gets a scan, Cat gets a scan, Blaze gets a scan- everyone gets a scan! Person is apparently an orderly, water-loving gluttonous person. I have no idea how accurate all of that is, honestly, I’ll have to ask him how much he likes swimming in right angles while eating very large amounts of food. Anyway, we walk inside, and I get to see all the new stuff they’ve added since I was last here.
This is the first thing they show me, and it is adoraaaabllleeee. I want one- Oh, Yuna gave me one! Awesome! I wonder how you make them. You can’t see it since I can only take screenshots, but it bounces up off the ground in this adorable little dance every few seconds. I am SO taking this cute little guy home <3. Now, they want to show me something in the backyard, which is probably what they wanted me over here for in the first place.
This is Nessie, a plesiosaur. I’m amazed, they’ve managed to create an enclosure for and cultivate a plesiosaur, in their backyard! I try to scan it, but it’s too weird/complex/old/alien for me to understand it. Shame, I’d love to pick up clues as to how to construct one of these myself...
<3 Yuna even let me feed him, she’s so nice.
Right outside their base, I find this- a node with a decent amount of ignis, finally. Hopefully they won’t mind me either stealing or swapping this one with another... Yuna lets me drain it, and lets me know that apparently, if you drain nodes too often, they might become Hungry Nodes. Oh dear, that sounds like an extremely unpleasant thing to have happen. I’ll have to be extremely careful with which nodes I drain, in that case. ;_; scary nodes are scary.
They have a bathtub and shower. Finally, a chance to wash myself off. The water’s cold, but I don’t mind. I really need to get around to making one at my own base, it feels so good to be clean again. I keep my adorable, extremely huggable potato friend with me, hes soo ccuuuteeeeee~
Well, it’s time to head home. Fortunately for my cleanliness, I found a Crystal Wing in a chest somewhere in my explorations, so I take the opportunity to test it out. I give Yuna a farewell whack with the Swatter, and whoosh myself home.
Looks like it worked nearly perfectly. It dropped me on top of my mountain, but that’s to be expected, it’s not like any winds can reach inside of my house. Speaking of, I really should work on getting some ventilation in. I stow all the stuff I got from my scannery adventures away for reals this time, and read the books Cat gave me before I went to Yuna’s place. This one is especially noteworthy, and I feel it’s the perfect thing to end a chapter on.
Next chapter: More thaumcraftery, and maybe finally getting around to furniture.
"I sneak a scan at Blaze’s back while we’re walking there. Looks like he is an intelligent, farming, trading human. I see much wheat in his future."
That cracked me up. Lol. So what makes for a dancing potato? And just what is that betentacled pink hentai aspect in your screenshot?? Also, just checking, you did disable food rotting, right? I've been thinking about trying it but the main thing I want to know about it first is whether it breaks recipes. Say a recipe calls for a raw steak - would a steak that has rotting metadata on it still work? If not then I don't think I could possibly use it.

No idea what the hentai aspect is, it's some weird latin word I can't spell. The dancing potato is from botania and is apparently made by tossing a potato in a mana pool.
I disabled it, mostly because things rot when you're not around on servers, so I log off for the night and come back to find I have no food. The rotting doesn't break vanilla crafting table recipes, I think, because I was able to use some in pam's recipes. It will probably break, say, AE autocrafting, though. Also, rotting food wrecks storage. Seriously. The different rottings don't stack, so getting them to fit is a nightmare.

Yeah storage would be a nightmare. I noticed they have a freezer and an esky though. I wonder if that avoids the storage problem (maybe even some of the long term food storage as well)
I was thinking the food rotting would be intolerable on a server. Actually even not on a server I find it seriously unfun - a 2 hour expedition and all your supplies rot. Bleah.
So what's the mod that gives players aspects? That's really cool if it has any relationship to how people play. And the Soylent Green aspect of it is hilarious.
If overdrained nodes turn into Hungry nodes, that could really mess up a node room!
"Bright" means "generates Vis faster" so it's perfectly compatible with Sinister. I assure you people can be sinister and bright at the same time! Azanor used to call them "Dark" nodes and that did sound funny.

Hey guys, look what I found lying around the house. Ignore my horribly ugly hand.
Chapter 14: Decoration, Renaming, and Giggles
I’d been putting off putting the signs for these heads down for some reason, this is what it says now. Anyway, welcome back, everyone! Today, I was struck with inspiration- I’m tired of living in such an empty fortress. There’s like, nothing here! Far too utilitarian for my tastes. As such, today, I am going to decorate. Starting with my bathroom. Most of the bathroom things require nether quartz, which I fortunately have plenty of thanks to the lucky block structures. I don’t actually have any nether quartz quartz, just a ton of the blocks and pillars. A ton of crafting, placing, and piping later, I have a bathroom, with freezing cold running water.
I’ve already got an idea as to how I’m gonna heat it up, but I’m not quite ready for it yet. Also, the little room off to the side, that’s the toilet.
I’m very pleased with myself, because now I finally have a proper bathroom. Next, I’d like to make my bedroom more than just a room with a bed in it. It’s where I sleep and have fun, so I might as well make it as such!
This is what I decide to use the first of my diamonds on, a Jukebox. I have a couple of music disks(2 13s and 1 Cat, still working on that collection), so I make a rack and put it above the jukebox. It doesn’t look very good there, so I make a table next to the jukebox and put it there. Eight million decorations later, and I have a cozy new bedroom.
The corners of the room were feeling kinda dark despite them being above mob-spawning limits, so I put some lamps above them.
Complete with a computer and computer desk, something I dearly wish I could have in my own room, this is an excellent bedroom. Pay no attention to the fact that the computer can only look at Minezon.com. Also, I made a towel and put that in the bathroom. You can see it poking out from behind the shower there.
That moon above the bed makes everything feel so much nicer for some reason. The little creeper plushie next to my bed is adorable, by the way. I assure you, I will have zero nightmares about waking up and seeing a tiny creeper next to me. The clock is really cool, it actually accurately tells the minecraft time of day. If I recall correctly, it used to be just static, and that you had to right click on it for it to say what the time is. Now you can actually read the clock face. I’m actually kinda interested to see how it would interact with a day cycle extender mod.
I’m very pleased with myself with this room. It feels really homey, and I can’t wait to decorate the rest of my house the same way.
Also, I hate wearing armor everywhere, so I put this thing here. I put everything but the camel pack on it, since I kinda tend to have problems with remembering to drink without it.
Now that my bedroom is done, I’m going to go get the lava needed to melt down enough stone to make Cat a smeltery. I can’t find the pool I used last time, so I end up going all the way to the southern forest to grab some from a lava pool I can see on a map there.
Four full portable tanks of lava should be enough for a while. With them filled, I head back to my house.
Wow, the beacon is really noticeable, even with the sun that close to it. Amazing, really. I’m so lucky to have found it~
I’m sitting out here admiring how terrifying Hardcore Darkness is, and I suddenly hear an explosion, really close by. I’m sure it’s not a creeper blowing up a torch or something, because I took care to avoid placing any outside. Then I look up.
What... I thought the meteor shield was supposed to stop meteors from hitting! What the heck? Why did this land? Did my shield maybe get destroyed or something?
Nope, the shield is fine. The only explanation I can think of is that the shield only protects against meteors large enough to destroy terrain, and let the little ones that just sit there free. That’s... Not exactly ideal, but I guess I’m okay with it if they’re never large enough to destroy terrain. Maybe I’ll erect a physical shield sometime in the future, once I have an overabundance of glass or something.
Anyway, I wanted to automatically pour the seared stone into the cast, I’m four redstone short of being able to make a Liquid Transfer Node. I look for other alternatives, and eventually come across the Redstone Clock, which costs exactly as much redstone as I have. I craft it, and place it above the faucet.
Ugly, but effective. The redstone clock emits one pulse per second, and the faucet automatically pours its material out when it gets a signal. I also put a hopper underneath to automatically pull out the bricks once they’ve hardened. While that’s pouring I head upstairs to check just what the hentai aspect is made of.
...Ew. Meat and Hunger? That sounds like something out of a Horror story. I’ll definitely have to capture that node, before it does something both horrific and perverted.
Anyway, by now, the bricks are done pouring, so I can go and take the stuff to Cat to get him a smeltery. He lives in the middle of the Birch Forest, so he’s been having a lot of problems finding the gravel and clay for grout. Right before I leave, Blaze also asks me to bring him some Dark Oak Saplings. I have plenty and a couple planted, so I grab 20 to bring with me. I’ll drop them off at his place once I’m done with Cat’s smeltery.
The trip there was uneventful, and I completely forget to take any pictures while I was there. Essentially, I made a duplicate of the smeltery I had outside of my hut before I moved into my mountain. It’s right next to his hut, on the top of the mountain he’s on. I also give him a block of aluminum brass, and pour him an ingot cast using a spare brick. I leave the rest of the brass in the smeltery for him to make the other casts with, and he promptly pours eight ingot’s worth of brass into the casting basin, which means the entire thing is wasted. sigh
After that, I head over to Blaze’s place, down on the forested southern coast. On the way there, I hit ANOTHER gigantic Terra node.
I wonder what I should do with all of these. Should I stabilize them and use them to charge wands? No, no wand needs that much terra... Should I put them all in a room with each other and see what comes out? Should I make a Tower of Terra and use them for decoration? I really don’t know what I should be doing here. A Super Node of Terra sounds neat, but I really don’t know what’s the best thing to do with them all. Maybe I should make a Tower of Terra, then.
Anyway, I reach his place, and drop off the saplings. He’s trying to make a mountain near his base, like, a lone spire on the coast, and he’s making it SQUARE.(don’t give him too much crap, though, he was, at least, creating irregularities on the sides) I, of course, wish to help him see the error of his ways, and help him round it into a significantly more natural base. I’ll leave him to do the parts after that, he’s not an idiot.
All the while I’m doing this, I continue to forget to take screenshots, so I have nothing but text to show for it. I’ll take more if I see anything interesting on the way back. I’d like to do some more decoration once I get back, but I need to make more Deco Clay for that, and the only one I have much of is Lapis Lazuli, and I can’t seem to use the Botania dyes for it. Unfortunate, I’ll have to figure out how to get enough Roses and Poppies to get the red, and actually set up a cactus farm for the green. It’s easy enough to do, but I’m being really negligent with my farms this world for some reason, despite this world being the world I’ve needed them most. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been exploring so much? I’m kinda glad I didn’t put any special dungeon generator mods in, because if I had, I would just be spending the entire time going through them. Actually, no, I wouldn’t, because the mobs in this pack are waaay too crazy for me to even think about it. In other, easier modpacks, though, me and Blaze were known to run through the dungeons and get a ton of loot and not know what to do with any of it because we never actually made a base or even a place to store it. Those worlds got boring, fast.
I don’t know why, but Blaze’s place is eternally a total mess of mobs. I had to run inside his house and hide for ten minutes like this multiple times, because of the insanity that kept creeping up from the sea. Speaking of insanity, I found out something horrible: Being at low health decreases insanity very, very quickly. Hunger Overhaul essentially makes that hunger regeneration take far longer, too, so I went insane, fast. When I was about to leave, some sort of weird meteor hit near Blaze’s mountain, which was made entirely of silverfish cobblestone. We killed most of them, but by the end of it, I was at such low health I went insane again. Now, here’s the embarrassing part: I didn’t KNOW I was low on sanity, so when a fake enderman appeared directly on top of meand made the most horrifying sound I’ve ever heard in my life, I screamed like a little girl, directly into the microphone(I was skyping with him at the time). The worst part is, since I was the one that was insane, he couldn’t see or hear anything that was happening. I don’t know what he thought, but I was so, so, so, so, so, so, so embarrassed. Just... ugh. I was not expecting that, not one bit. The Insanity overlay never appeared, probably a bug with Enviromine(I still haven’t updated us after the Great Rot update).
As you can see, I’m walking home, and my insanity bar is very much empty. I suspect it won’t rise until I get my health back.
Finally home! I forgot to bring my crystal wing on the way there, so I had to walk home. I also found another Lostbook from all those silverfish, and it’s full of horrible jokes. Like, really horrible. I’ll show you the first page.
Ugh, aren’t they awful? The entire book’s full of them.
<3 My world is so pretty. I love Minecraft, so much. It lets me see and build all these amazing things I never could in real life.
I accidentally lost my thaumonomicon earlier, a hungry zombie ate it over the sea, so it fell to the bottom without me noticing. I’d forgotten they do that. I may want to invest in a botania magnet, despite how much I hate them in dire’s server play. Anyway, I made a new thaumonimcon, thank goodness all my research is stored in the Thaumic Cloud. Hmm, maybe I should retexture the Thaumonomicon to look like a kindle, that would be hilarious.
I named it something different this time, and started reading it once more.
By the way, I can’t really decide whether I want to go educationmode on thaumcraft like I did(briefly) with Ars Magica. I certainly wouldn’t mind doing it, can you guys leave me a little bit of feedback as to whether you liked that or not? I’ve only really showed off the early-game stuff so far, so I wasn’t sure if I should spend the time explaining that. I plan to make very extensive use of the mod and its addons, so I feel like it might be a good idea to show off how to use the things in it. I dunno, you guys let me know if I should!
Anyway, I want to make myself a set of Giggles of Revealing, and to that, I need to make a couple of thaumometers. It uses almost all of my remaining gold, but I have enough to make them and the Giggles themselves. Also, I get to do something I’ve been itching to do for like 4 chapters now, which is scanning the thaumonicon.
Huh, that’s kinda disappointing. I expected more, but it is a fairly early game item, so I suspect I shouldn’t have really expected anything. Oh well, at least I have it scanned now. I make the Giggles, and scan them too.
Now, that’s more like it! Lots more aspects. This is what I expected from the Thaumometer, but I suppose it only shows its true potential when it’s bound together with gold and leather and a little bit of magic.
I look like... I won’t say her name here, you’ll see it in a second. These things deserve to be renamed to that(even though I rename everything anyway).
I also made some boots. I don’t actually have the string to make the rest of the set, but at least now I’m not running around barefoot on marble flooring in a icy forest. Yes, yes, the magic in these shoes is very good for keeping one’s feet warm. I’m not one for boots, but dang, are these effective. I feel so nice in them, I can even focus vis better! Now, I’d like to make the next kind of wand, one I’m planning on sticking with for a while. I want a Greatwood core, so I go downstairs to get some of the greatwood I collected, and-
Oh COME ON! How did I manage to collect ONE LESS greatwood than I actually need!? Well, I probably need a lot of greatwood for other things anyways, so I guess it’s okay. I get to go get some more, now, and preferably some saplings with it. In addition, I can now use my Giggles of Revealing to see all the nodes I missed with just my thaumometer.
Before I go, though, I want to make some gold caps to bring with me. You’ll see why in a bit, I have a plan. A glorious, devious, clever plan.
The first step in that plan is to go out and find a greatwood tree to knock over. On the way there, I find a lot of nodes. I took way too many screenshots of them, which I’ll keep, but I’ll only show the notable ones. This is one such node I stumble upon north of my base.
Oh my. A normal node, with Vitium? This thing must be just at the edge of becoming a tainted node, I’ll have to stabilize it as soon as possible. When I looked at the node with my giggles, it actually had the aspect as a questionmark, since this is the first thing I’ve found Vitium in. The pink of it is actually very pretty for a node, but still, it’s taint. Taint is bad.
Look very closely at this image, you may have to zoom in to see it. You see that? Three nodes, all naturally in the same screen. Amazing, really.
This is the biggest of the three. It’s an absolutely ridiculous Terra node. I wonder how high the aspect amount can get...
Okay, I’m very mad at myself right now. That giant node was about 5 blocks away from another node, a terra/aer hybrid, and I got so wrapped up in the size of the pure terra node I forgot to take a picture. You’ll have to just take my word for it, maybe I’ll go out and take a picture while I’m recharging my wand.
The Coven Witch, I neglected to ask her name, seems to be the guardian of this haunted barrow. The Greatwood Tree I was looking for is nearby, so she, probably out of boredom, decides to watch as I chop it down.
The view from up here is really nice. I’m thinking I should turn down the rates of dropping for the meteors, honestly, since they’re just wrecking the terrain. On a server like this, even one every night is just too much.
Plenty of greatwood, probably, for anything I’ll want to do with it other than building. Now that I have that, I can get to what I wanted to do. I’d like to make myself a greatwood wand, with golden bobs at the ends. Not only does it makes me look cool, but it’s also better than the plain old wooden wand in every way. Now, for the second part of my plan, I make a table, and whack it with my wooden wand. I then put the greatwood and the wand into the Magic Table that results.
Combined with the golden bobs and a bunch of magic, I now have myself a very nice new magic wand.
This is the ‘good’ wand, and can be considered middle-of-the-road, so to speak. It can’t do some things, but it can do most things. I mean, I can’t capture nodes with it, but I can craft almost anything. I’ll probably be sticking with it for quite a while. Anyway, the reason I made this out here is so that I can run around and fill it up before I go home! I bid farewell to the witch, who snorts and goes back to watching the bars on the front of the barrow. Now, onwards, for more nodes, and more vis!
Found another bright node, at the edge of the savanna! This one has Bestia in it. That’s kinda weird, but I don’t mind. Actually, it looks like most of the nodes in the Savanna have Bestia in it. Odd, I’d expected more of a terra/ignis mix.
Oh my god... This village has been the site of a total cataclysm. These villagers, I need to organize a support operation for them as soon as possible. In addition, I also need to do something about the Sinister Claw, which acts as a portal to the realm of wisps. It’s possible this caused from a buildup of chaos from it.
Dark magic, for sure. I need to save these villagers before something like this happens again. Truly, I wish I knew what dark personage placed these totems and claws over my continent. I did not see nearly as many on the other continent, though there were... Other eldritch things there. I should investigate it eventually, once I am secure in my ability to live. My new wand is all full, so I get to head home.
I missed this totem before. While I’m scanning it, though, my screen suddenly darkens, and a boss bar appears. Return of the King Slime, it looks like. Something seems different this time, but I pay it no mind. I’d like to scan it, so I get under some blocks and bring out the magicometer.
Nothing. Looks like I just don’t know what the giant blob of death could possibly be made of. It’s not like there’s a Slime aspect or anything. Hint. Hint. Hint.
OW. I knew there was something different about this one, it was an infernal and it didn’t tell me. Whacking it with the swatter lit me on fire, withered me, and poisoned me. I eventually had to start using my bow instead, and now I have like no arrows.
Oh. Wow, the only loot I got from that is a little more blue slime, a yellow heart, and a battlesign. Seriously, a battlesign? Not a useful tool, just a battlesign. I guess it makes for a neat trophy, but... wow.
Renamed my wand.
I’m doing the research for Nitor, which is a pretty, magical fire that burns on nothing, and I see the description for the hentai aspect.
OKAY, FORBIDDEN MAGIC, THERE IS NO WAY THAT ISN’T INTENTIONAL. UGH.
I want to make myself a ranged weapon that doesn’t rely on arrows, since those are being a pain to get. I want to start with a fire wand focus, but it looks like I need Nether Quartz for that. As I’ve said before, I only have the blocks, none of the items, which is what I need for this recipe. I research Frost and Lightning foci too, and they’re the same, I need Nether Quartz for them. Looks like I get to go to the nether. I need nether brick for the Infernal Furnace eventually anyway, so I suppose it’s probably for the best.
While I was in the Forbidden Magic tab, I saw something called an Umbrella Rose. Apparently, this is essentially a black rosebush that spreads by itself. The flower can be crushed into black dye, which can be used as a replacement for ink sacs. I hope it’s considered an ore dictionary dye, because if it isn’t, then I’ll only be able to use it for vanilla things. I’ll try making it, and see if it works.
So, I need to go to the nether, and I thought this looked like a very handy research to have. I know that it has something to do with nether portals, so I went and got it, thinking it would be a way to summon a portal or something. While not as awesome as that would be, this is still pretty darn cool. If I happen to get stranded in the nether because of some stupid ghast, I can relight my portal with just my wand and some ignis. If I recall correctly, it’s possible to get largely-ignis nodes inside the nether, too, so if I run out for whatever reason, I can recharge it that way.
Renamed my giggles.
I’m going to end this one off here, with a picture of the lake at night. Next cha- ah, who am I kidding, I might as well just call it an episode, I think it’s time to get geared up for and go to the nether. In-between this chapter and next, I will be making numerous mod updates and config adjustments.
By the way, guys, remember to tell me whether I should be educational about thaumaturgy. I'm serious, I'd like to know what you guys want to see.
I liked it, yes. I now think I need to install Forbidden Magic, and I wouldn't have known that before. I wouldn't have known I needed a Hentai aspect either - and I wouldn't have known there was an alternative to ink sacs. My squids are seriously rare. Great episode
Very fun episode, as always. I actually like you calling your posts chapters because they are WAY longer than my episodes!
Yeah, the useful stuff from Thaumcraft pretty much requires going to the nether. Golems are the main exception. I recently found that the Repair enchantment really chews up Terra, so there *is* a use for it. I don't know why, but something about the generation algorithms favors large Terra Nodes- if I find a node over 99 Vis it's basically always got Terra.
Nitor is useful for making other things (like golem controllers)- and is practically a necessity if you've got those flaming torches.
I am really curious what that Hentai aspect does - although maybe you won't be able to discuss it on this family-friendly board.

On explaining mods - for purely selfish reasons I'd like to see some on Tinker's constructs, which seems pretty complicated, and to have a fairly demanding upgrade path. Also stuff on the numerous hazards of your pack, especially rare stuff like meteor strikes. I would be really ticked if meteors were smashing my base and I didn't even know how to handle them.

Chapter 15:THE NETHER IS HELL
And we’re FINALLY back! It’s been too long, I will not be making a massive update like that for a loooong time. Now, straight on to what I wanted to do- As mentioned in the last chapter, I need to go to the nether. I have glowstone from looting those house things, but I need quartz, netherrack, and a bunch of other stuff. I have the portal ready- I just need to prepare myself and go in. However, before I do, there’s a couple of things to note.
The nether is dangerous, in many, many ways. It’s full of terrible evil mobs, it’s hot, it’s full of lava, it’s got lots of sharp cliffs, but most importantly, it’s HOT. I’ve already devised several methods to combat it.
This is the first method. Tons, and TONS of cold water bottles. I will need my armor when I go in, and I can’t have the strongest one taken up by a camel pack. Hopefully this is enough. The next method will solve two of my problems and assist with another.
Kreknorite. I specifically made a configuration change in this update to Kreknorite armor. Instead of having all the same stats as other armor, enviromine-wise, Kreknorite will be a powerful insultator. All kreknorite I’ve found in chests has been with Fire Protection IV on it, so I assume this is a native property of the metal. It won’t cool me down all on its own, but it’ll keep the ambient heat out for a while. It’s not perfect, but it’s far better than plain old iron, which will actually CONDUCT heat and make me get hot faster. It works both ways, too, so to cool off, I just leave the nether and take it off. In addition, it’s STRONG armor. This will help significantly with the nasties like Passive-Aggressive pigmen. Finally, every one comes pre-enchanted with Fire Protection IV, and with a full set of it, I’m practically immune to fire. I could go swimming in a lava lake if I wanted- that is, until I died of Heat Stroke. This stuff is strong, and for good reason- if I hadn’t found the helmet and chestplate in a chest, I wouldn’t have enough chips to make the whole set. This stuff’s hard to get, since krekorite meteors are rare, and cool quickly.
Did I mention it looks awesome? It looks awesome. You can also see my cute little ears, added by a Tails update, poking through the top. Now that that’s taken care of, I should figure out my food.
Tons of food, mostly pies. I can’t fit it all in the lunchbox, but that’s okay. I go downstairs to make sure there’s nothing I’m missing, and I remember I have that Ectoplasm stuff from the flying slimes of fail. Now, I recently found out about this AMAZING item from Random Things, which is the mod that adds the flying slimes.
It’s called the Spectre Key, and all it takes is an iron and one of those Ectoplasm items. Now, this will be veeery helpful in the nether, but I’m not going to spoil why just yet.
Remember that research I did, the one that lets you light portals with the wand? I don’t want to risk losing my Greatwood wand, so I’m going to bring the wooden wand instead. It still has enough ignis(I THINK) to light a portal, so it should be OK.
Now, if you read the changelog, you’ll know, but I made Snow blocks cold. Really REALLY cold. This is so that we’ll be able to make ‘safe rooms’ in the nether, places to cool off and just chill.
Okay guys, everything is ready, it’s time to- AUGH, I NEARLY FORGOT TO PUT MY ATLAS BACK! God, it’s a good thing I am writing this before I go, that could have been terrible. Now, everything’s ready, time to go to the nether.
Okay, that’s pretty close to lava, but at least it’s not floating over it like some spawns I’ve gotten. Also, what’s that weird looking thing on the ground there?
Apparently it’s some weird chest called “Undertaker”. I’m GUESSING this is added by Gany’s Nether, because it has an item from Gany’s Nether inside, this Dimensional Bread stuff. I loot all of it, and since I’m kinda hungry anyway, I try one of the breads.
Invisibility! From bread! OMG! Okay, so, now that that’s looted, I get to work on the portal shield. Now, some players would just make a cobblestone box around it with a wooden door and call it done, but I don’t want to do that. The way I want to make it is, I want to have a central platform with the portal on it. Around that, I want to have a 2 block wide pit, which will have some kind of pointy pokery thing at the bottom. This is so that I can essentially save myself from pursuing pigmen, without angering even more pigmen around me. I’ll make it out of plain old cobble at first, but I’ll make it pretty later. As I’m placing down the first layers of stone, though, I suddenly get hit by an arrow! Off to the side, there’s a Zombie Pigman with a bow. Now, for some reason this passive-aggressive pigman decided to just be aggressive with me, so I’m hoping I can kill him without angering the other pigmen too.
No luck. Death Fifteen, Death by Passive Aggressive Pigman Swarm. I killed the bow pigman, but then I got swarmed by about 5 heavily armored ones. I couldn’t kill any of them before I died, too. Geez, these guys are really tough. They got through my Kreknorite armor, which is supposed to have strength on par with diamond, in just three hits. Ah well- I’ll just log off for the night and wait for them to deaggro. I hope that works, I can’t fight guys that strong with just my backup gear.
Going through, the next day. I go through, completely naked(Actually, I had a helmet) and hoping the pigmen are gone.
No luck, I’m ripped apart instantly. Okay, let’s try going in with a sword and some more armor.
Dead.
Dead.
Dead.
Okay, this isn’t working. I happened to do a little research when I was putting the modpack together(And waiting for the Pam’s update to update for two whole days before I realized I was reading the date wrong like a flipping idiot), and I happened to find out that the Burned Wing that I found in a dungeon chest somewhere doesn’t act like the Crystal Wing, instead of bringing me home, it will randomly teleport me somewhere within 500 blocks. Now, normally, that’d just be a lame-o gimmick that would probably get you killed, yes? I think I might have found the perfect use for it. I need to get into the nether, and use it instantly.
Honestly, I don’t want to go through my front door this time. Good thing the Edged Glass drops when you break it! I’m wearing my freezypants this time, so if it teleports me above lava, those SHOULD freeze it into obsidian instantly. I’m planning here, guys!
Evidently not enough. I go through, and try to use it, but- darnit. It looks like I neglected to realize that the way you GET a burned wing is trying to use a Crystal Wing in the nether. It lights on fire when you try to use it, and doesn't do anything.
Dead. I’m losing count of how many times these stupid pigmen have been killing me. That’s bad, I am supposed to be keeping count. Ah well, I’ll just count the heads when I get my stuff back. If I get my stuff back.
Oh, that’s one way to check. I’ll just look in chat to see how many times I’ve been wrecked by pigmen.
This is all I have left, this armor and a bow. At least, in terms of weaponry, anyway. I do happen to have this mattock, let’s see how OP we can make it.
First step, time to use my second diamond(and gold block) adding a modifier. Pricey, but I hope it’ll be worth it.
I’ve used all my rotten flesh(who knew it’d be this useful?) on upgrading this thing with Smite, let’s see how effective it is against a plain old zombie.
Not very effective. It took 4 hits, where the Swatter took two. Okay, to add more modifier spots, I will need to level it up. In plain old tconstruct, this wouldn’t be a problem, but with Iguanatweaks, it doesn’t work like that. A tool starts with no modifiers, you earn them every other level as the tool improves. You can, of course, add three using gold block/diamond, diamond block/super golden apple, and nether star, but those are all expensive as heck. Paper parts work too, but it’s still... not particularly effective to use much of that.
What luck! As I was applying some more Smite to this thing, a blood moon hit. Perfect for me, actually, because I need more rotten flesh for more Smite. Oh, and yeah, that’s a club or something he’s got.
TONS of rotten flesh. Excellent, this should be plenty for the rest of the Smite I’ll need. The way you make the Smite for Tconstruct tools, by the way, is by applying Consecrated Soil to the tool. You get that by smelting Graveyard Soil, which you get by combining dirt, bonemeal, and rotten flesh. Simple, but you only get one per, and even with the giant mass of rotten meat from the Great Rot, I didn’t have enough to really put on much Smite.
Testing with maxed smite in every way.
While waiting for a zombie to show up, I turned around and saw this.
Dear lord that’s beautiful. I love this texturepack so much, thank you, dulci. <3
Can you see the glowing creeper face in the darkness? I can, and it’s really flippin creepy.
Okay guys, it’s done. It’s the best it can be. It’s tough, holy, regenerating, and extremely effective as a weapon versus the undead. The question is- is it enough to kill the pigmen before they can kill me? We’ll find out. If this doesn’t work, I’ll have completely run out of options and have to cheat to get the stupid things away from my portal. I don’t want to do that, at all, but if it’s for the preservation of fun, I’ll do it if I have to.
Time to go in.
Yup, I had to cheat. The two hours I spent upgrading the mattock were wasted, the stupid pigmen threw me into the lava pit behind the portal before I could even hit them. I fly up, an ash-bird rising from the flames(that’s how phoenixes work, right?), and kill every one of those STUPID. FLIPPING. PIGMEN.
This is the aftermath of the portal camping pigmen. So many graves, so little inventory space. I make a chest outside of the portal to place the stuff in, and then this happens.
Oops. Looks like the immense amount of heat I accumulated by falling into a pit of lava carried through the portal. I died nearly instantaneously. I go back, and start getting my stuff back. I dig one of the graves(HANDY TIP: SHOVELS WORK BEST ON OPENBLOCKS GRAVES!), and suddenly, I was lit aflame! I looked in my inventory and saw that I had a “burning wing” item there, which was probably causing it. I left the nether, and got this achievement.
Cool, I didn’t know Crystal Wing had achievements.
That’s a wisp.
Okay guys, this is my general idea for my portal room. I’m going to have the entire thing out of tough materials, though if there are any tough glass materials that don’t require a nether star(hinthinthinthint), I would love to use them too.
Essentially, it’s going to be a big, tough dome protecting the portal. At the edges of the walls is a 2 wide, 3 deep trench, with trapdoors connecting the center island and the door. Hopefully, this will keep the pigmen from camping my portal again. Hopefully. We’ll see.
That’s a wisp.
Okay guys, the room is done. I’m completely and utterly insane from the horrifying, nightmare-inducing “one-two-three-four, one two-three four” and “wheeere aaaare yoooou?” and “I’m gonna fiiiind yoooooou” and “I just want to play with your...”
But it’s done. I’m safe, for now.
I can’t mine the nether quartz. Who’da thought? I need a better pickaxe to be able to mine it. Oh well- I needed an excuse to make it anyway.
Alumite Head, Slime Rod, Netherrack Binding. It’s sticky, pink, and part of it is from hell itself. I feel this is the perfect name for it. Now, I doubt that Nether Quartz Ore is harder than Obsidian, but just to be sure, I’d like to do some mining to upgrade the mining level.
Awww, where did these cute little guys come from? That’s adorabllleee~!
They totally want to eat my face off, but they’re so adorably unable to do anything it’s adorable. Then they died for no reason, and I got sad.
This is how you get breathable air this far down, folks, you just have to plant a tree in a big enough room, and whamz! Free air. This tree is so hip, it’s totally underground!
Huzzah! Repair as my first free modifier. Awesome! Alumite is kinda expensive, so I’m quite happy with this.
Hah! A little more mining, and I have my Alumite pick able to mine Ardite. If that’s not enough to mine the nether quartz, I don’t know what is.
Another adorable little dude! I wonder where these guys keep coming from. I don’t think there were any slime pools, so I’m really not sure.
To the nether! Let’s see if this new pick can mine the quartz now.
It can! Awesome. Armed with this new pickaxe and the Holy Mattock of STUPID PIGMEN, I mine some nether quartz. Having mined all the quartz around my portal, I move on to other places, looking for a couple of things in particular.
That’s a wisp.
Ha! I got myself an ethereal essence off of him, since he was trapped in this little cave. I’ll be able to use that for... stuff. I dunno what stuff, but stuff, definitely. Yush, stuff. As I’m walking out, I see some quartz, and mine it. Suddenly, as I’m leaving the spot the quartz was at, an explosion throws me into the air and lets loose a lavafall on the place I was at. Jesus- what was that? I look around, moving away from the lava, and suddenly, another explosion appears where I was. I look around, incredibly startled, and realize there’s a ghast bombarding me. I couldn’t hear it, because the ghast shooty noise is apparently much less noisy than the ghast talking noise.
Wow, the nether actually seems kinda beautiful with Misa’s, in a horrible, terrible, grim, dark, hellish way. I like the way this looks a lot more than the vanilla bright red.
As I’m admiring the view, I am suddenly reminded that the giant floating hell-baby is still there. I manage to hit him with a single arrow, which is enough to kill him. Thanks, Power 1! No idea what it means by right click on obsidian to plant. I know nothing about Gany’s nether, which I suspect is what adds that. It, Special Mobs, and Tinkerer’s Construct are the only things that really add anything to the Nether with this pack.
Look what IIIII foooooound~
Yup. Stumbled upon this in one of those “Undertaker” chests. Huzzah, potions without having to find a flippin fortress! Now I just need some Soul Sand to plant it in.
Wat. Tilled Netherrack? I don’t even- how does that work? Whatever- I take the spooky wheaty stuff, it’s used to make the thing to make the Dimensional Bread.
Um, guys, look what I found in one of the Undertakers. Yeah, that’s right, End Stone. Normally this stuff is a TOTAL PAIN to get, requiring either going to the end to mine it, or pouring liquid ender over obsidian in a smeltery. Both require a lot of Ender Pearls, which I don’t have. I’m lucky to have found this, I’ll be able to make some cool stuff with it, like Sky Blocks.
Found myself some soul sand! It’s covering this really pretty curved cliff. I mine a bunch of it, and leave. The terrifying noises of the ghasts and knowing how open I am is making me really nervous.
I was right to be nervous! I was digging away, and I suddenly found this little monster eating me from behind. It scared the crap out of me. He’s smaller than a normal ghast, though not as small as the little itty bitty Twilight Forest ones.
Some sort of magical sugar cane that gets nourishment from lava. The nether is a strange place...
It’s called a Glowing Reed. Okay, cool. I wonder what that’s used for.
Got a free Luck on my new pick. Lucky!
I ran out of space to stuff all the stuff I got from the nether, so it looks like I’m gonna head back. Fortunately, I have gotten everything I was looking for from the nether. For now, that is...
Anyway, I go home, it’s night, but by now I know the way to my front door by memory. I stumble my way across the ice, fall into freezing water, and make my way inside. I put away most of it, but grab some Netherrack, 8 Soul Sand, and 8 Netherwart. In addition, I made this.
You can make them out of all sorts of things, like stone, diamond, cobalt, ect. I only have iron, so I make it out of that. It should be enough for now. I should probably explain what this thing does. This is the Iron Saw, from Forge Multipart. If you’ve played with the old Redpower microblocks, these work similarly, though they feel a little more restricted in just how you can place them. I dunno, maybe I’m mistaking it for terrafirmacraft’s miniblocks.
If you’ve never played with either before, essentially, this saw will let you cut up full blocks into slabs. Sounds cool, right? It gets better. You can cut that slab in half to make a Panel, and you can cut that Panel in half to make a Cover. This allows for some pretty neat creations, but the next part is that you can cut THOSE even further, in the other direction. You can cut strips, corners, nooks, posts, all sorts of awesome stuff. I’m going to show off one of the ways you can use this here. The best part, though? You can place multiples of them in the same block. It works with pipes, wires, torches, or anything that is designed to be compatible with Forge Multipart.
Here, I’ve placed the soul sand, and the nether wart above it. However, something you’ll probably notice, is that around it, I’ve made a little barrier of Nether Brick. It’s not a full block, these are Panels. In the corner is a Post, which makes up for what would otherwise be an awkward indent. If you can’t tell already, these little things can make for some AMAZING creations. I look forward to using them extensively in the future.
One thing to note, though, don’t try and build entire houses out of the things. They have to render each of the little parts in every direction(as in, if you have 6 covers in the same block to try and be clever and conserve building materials(you get 8 covers per block), it will render all the sides of the covers in every direction, no matter where you’re looking, for all six of them), and since you can place multiple of them in the same block, it can get laggy, fast. Use them artistically, but use full blocks for the base. It’s essentially the same rule as using Nitor for lighting. It looks really pretty, and it works really well, but use too much and you get some serious FPS drops.
This is another example of what you can make. I made a little table out of nether brick to place my Brewing Stand on. What do you think?
MUAHAHAHA, GROW, MY MINIONS, GROW!
If you were to ask me what my favorite part of vanilla minecraft is, My answer would be brewing potions in my Dark Oak house on a Savanna Plateau. Potions are one of my favorite aspects of vanilla, and I was saving that blaze rod I got from the Kreknorite meteor for a brewing stand. In order to actually make useful potions though, I’d needed Netherwart, which is growing behind me.
First set of potions I make is a trio of Potions of Instant Health II. Hunger Overhaul makes being at low health very punishing, so having these will be quite handy. In addition, I make some Potions of Night Vision, which are actually useful for looking at things other than deep underwater thanks to Hardcore Darkness. Also, just ‘cause, I make some Potions of Strength II. I had some blaze powder, and you never know when you’ll need to viciously 1-shot some random creeper.
Here’s the contents of my backpack now. I wish we had some sort of Portable Potion Shelf, but ah well. This’ll do. A bunch of cold water, and some potions. I don’t have the materials to make more just yet(well, I could make a TON of health or speed, but I don’t need speed, and I have enough Health), so this will have to do.
Now, now that I have Nether Quartz, I can get around to making those wand foci. The ones I’m interested in is all of them, and while I have enough quartz to do that, I’m limited in other things. The three foci I have researched are the Fire focus, the Frost focus, and the Lightning focus. They’re all pretty easy, I have all the stuff to make them.
Or so I thought. First things first, though, I should make a Focus Pouch. This thing is awesome- Normally foci would hang around in your inventory, taking up valuable space that could be used for things like water bottles, or backpacks. Now, Foci are normal items, so they can just be put into a backpack. Why make a fancy backpack that requires gold, magic, and leather?
That would be because while this can only hold foci, you can put foci directly on your wand from it, as if they were just hanging around in your inventory. With a backpack, you can’t do that. Also, any foci you take off of your wand will automagically fly straight in, instead of sitting around in your inventory.
Got the fire focus, easy stuff. I don’t really remember where I got the fire charge, but I got it from somewhere. Somehow. Who cares?
Shock focus, easy as well. I always get a kick out of the fact that the central component is a potato.
And then I get to the frost focus. It costs a diamond, so it’s pretty expensive, but I have that. I go downstairs to get it and the Aqua shards, but- Wow. Are you kidding me? I don’t have any. At all. I have diamonds. I have Nether Quartz. I don’t have AQUA SHARDS. I LIVE IN A SNOW BIOME. I HAVE MORE FIRE SHARDS THAN ANYTHING ELSE, AND I LIVE. IN A SNOW BIOME. WHAT WHY WHY IS THIS HAPPENING HKVSKYFGBKSBD
Okay, so I can’t make a Frost focus. Oh well, Lightning works almost as well as a ranged weapon. It can’t arch, and it’ll charge creepers if it hits them, but it’s still got significantly more ammo than a bow. Oh, did I mention: I have two Apprentice Aer rings, so it’s a little bit cheaper than any other foci to use.
However, despite Shock being a decent ranged weapon, only having two energy-damage-based wands in my pouch feels kinda lonely. I’d love to have three, so I decide to research the next two foci: Wand Focus of Excavation, and Wand Focus of Equal Trade.
Now, I said I wouldn’t show any more researches, but this is just too funny. Who’dv thought that Excavation could be so evil? I didn’t. But I did it. Taint, Chaos, Death, Trapping, and just a little bit of life to spice things up.
This is what the pouch looks like with all of my foci inside.
As you can see, holding F while holding the wand brings up this little menu. You can move your mouse to one of the floating foci, and it puts it on the wand for use. From there, you just right click, and it does this.
Or, this, if you choose the other one.
I forgot to take a picture of the excavation focus. Oops. Anyway, now that I can shoot things with magic stuff and dig things with magic, I might as well make myself something to cook the things I kill with them? Not only that, but it looks cool, it cooks just as fast, and best of all, it does it all entirely for free! Sounds too good to be true, right? It’s not! Introducing, The Infernal Furnace.
Don’t worry, there’s nothing dangerous about this. The reason it’s considered forbidden magic is the same reason Nuclear energy isn’t very popular. It would obsolete the very well-known and popular patented Stone Furnace and Redstone Furnace appliances that are often found in any household. The knowledge of how to construct one was only recently deemed forbidden, as a result of the RF&F Co. bribing Thaumaturgic Father, Archmage, and Cross-Dimensional Governor, Azanor. I, a law abiding citizen of Lancer, will never allow such underhanded tactics. Forbidden? What on earth is that to someone who lives alone, far from the reach of corrupt lawkeepers?
To build it, you need 12 obsidian, 12 nether brick, 1 bucket of lava, and an iron bar. In addition, to make it function as a cooker rather than an incinerator, you need 50 Terra and 50 Ignis vis. I go out to fill up at a local Aura Node, and come back.
Here it is, prior to activation. Everything is in order, I just have to hit the bars with a tap of the wand.
Wallah! Amazing, yes? It looks wonderful, not sinister in the slightest. You can even see the little happy face in the bars! How could Azanor have the heart to forbid this thing, I don’t know. The red-and-black color does clash a little with my cool-color kitchen, but ah well. Nothing to be done about it, but I might be able to use covers to make it match a little better.
Furney, I’ll call him. Furney just made me a nice, warm cup of coffee. I don’t drink coffee, but it’s very nice of him to have done it for me, completely for free.
Whoosagoodfurnace? You are! Yes, you are! Yes you are! Yes you are!
Aren’t we so cute together? I love this little guy! He’s the perfect house pet, with Potato keeping my jukebox clean.
I’m feeling like he might get a little lonely, though, while I’m off exploring or just in general not being a stereotypical female, which is only some of the time. Soo, I made him a little friend! This is Chester, he’s a little chest that’s always hungry. He’ll eat anything, he’s not picky. I put him right in front of Furney, so they can always talk and see each other. Chester will pick up anything Furney doesn’t like, and keep them warm and not let them fall on the floor.
Aren’t they adorable? I think that’s a perfect place to stop this chapter. Next chapter, I’d like to do some more decoration, some more thaumaturgy, and maybe get started preparing for a project I’m thinking will benefit me greatly. See you guys next chapter!
To answer your question, I think that's a positively lovely netherbrick table. And I'm not sure about this... Furney... and Chester. Maybe you're growing too attached?
But anyways, it's cool that you're back! That was a totally huge update but fun to read.

Wow, that was easier than I remember. Well, Research will be even easier from now on, woo-hoo! I’ll hold off on getting Research Mastery for now because it looks glowy and evil and ;_;
Next up is Advanced Node Tapping.
Before I do, though, I’m going to steal an idea from Zeno and get some markers to mark nodes with. Black for Perdito, White for Ordo, Red for Ignis, Lime Green for Terra, Light Blue for Aqua, Yellow for Aer. I’ll copy Zeno again and use it to mark the most prominent color in the node. It really is such an excellent idea, yes? Please don't hate me for stealing this ;_;
Weird, the marker names are broken for me.

Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!

Anyway, I’ve gotten myself the secondary goal of finding Yuna/Person’s base this episode, I wanna check out where they’ve been living so I can
arrange orbital spy cameras rigged to atomic laser things so I can murder Yuna if she tries to witch mesend friendly gifts and establish a witchery-golem trade route.Anyway, continuing to explore southwards along the east coast, as I haven’t actually mapped that area yet.
It’s best if I can contain it before it does anything
pervertedevil.
I wonder if that avoids the storage problem (maybe even some of the long term food storage as well)
So what's the mod that gives players aspects? That's really cool if it has any relationship to how people play. And the Soylent Green aspect of it is hilarious.
If overdrained nodes turn into Hungry nodes, that could really mess up a node room!
"Bright" means "generates Vis faster" so it's perfectly compatible with Sinister. I assure you people can be sinister and bright at the same time! Azanor used to call them "Dark" nodes and that did sound funny.

Now, here’s the embarrassing part: I didn’t KNOW I was low on sanity, so when a fake enderman appeared directly on top of me and made the most horrifying sound I’ve ever heard in my life, I screamed like a little girl, directly into the microphone(I was skyping with him at the time).
Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.

That took FOREVER, but it’s done. I’m gonna make like a Dulciphi and give you guys a changelog of everything I did.
Also, sorry,
senpaiZeno, I completely forgot to do educationalness with the Tconstruct this time. Maybe next chapter?Changelog:

Now, this will be veeery helpful in the nether, but I’m not going to spoil why just yet.
ohmygodshemadeitsothatthetinypotatogivesheartswhenclickedomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg
But anyways, it's cool that you're back! That was a totally huge update but fun to read.
