I am on my 3rd world (resetting twice). The first time all my villagers disappeared over the course of a couple nights. ( no signs of zombie villagers). The second time I created a new seed, put up a fence around the whole village, torches EVERYWHERE. Added more housed so they would breed. Three different times, and still no villager babies. As I was still planting torches because mobs were still spawning in the village, I was killed by an enderman. Reset to my spawn point, it took me a minute to get my bearings and then I made my way back to the village to find it a ghost town. what happened? Then, I went to my chest, and it was completely empty. Obviously I was a little mad about that. So I reset the level. I have started again. My question is, how can I keep my villagers safe besides using a couple iron golems. I don't think that is a guarantee anyhow. And why aren't my villagers breeding?

Babies:
Not only do you need to have enough doors, you also need to feed the villagers or have brown-robed villagers feed the villagers from the crop fields. (Any brown robe villagers will harvest and plant and feed.) Villagers will eat bread, carrots, potatoes. They need lots each. Your easiest way is to have the brown-robes take care of it. It is not a quick process.
Disappearance:
You need walls, torches at all xxxx5,xxxx5 and xxx0,xxx0 coordinates, torches on building tops, torches on wall tops, torches inside buildings. Check block lighting with F3 (must be 8 or above.) Even then a "zombie siege" may happen if the village has 10+ doors AND 20+ villagers. Your simplest zombie siege defense is to always be sleeping or elsewhere at midnight.
Or maybe the villagers all fell down a crack?
Anyhow they're not supposed to disappear by themselves.
Don't know what happened to your chest items... playing in 1.8 and regressing to 1.7?
I guess i should have pointed out I am playing on xbox one. I have the latest update for the game. I am unsure how to "feed the villagers".Also I am having issues with the wolves I have befriended staying where I put them. They just keep popping up everywhere I dont want them to be.
I don't know much about Xbox, but the breeding rule for villagers is you need 3x as many doors as villagers approximately. (And one side of the door should have more roof blocks than the other within 5 spaces.)
