Is it possible to make it so I can have a controlled vertical opening?
I want to make something so that I have a stack of blocks and I can press a button and one falls through a chute, is this possible?
I remember someone did something like this with minecarts, restone, and a door. You set up the door so the minecart is sitting on top of it and once it receives redstone power it shuts. The cart then falls. Whether or not this works for other blocks is unknown to me.
Edit: Oh god! Just noticed Eve Online, lol. I mined then, I mine now.

Bellow statement is true.
Above statement is false.
I just fill up the radius of a tnt block with sand, supported by a redstone torch, so when the button is pressed, the tnt blows away the sand and DOOOOOOWWWWN they gooo.
You can have like sand on top of tnt with a pressure plate on top of both. The put water under it. Put torches on the tnt to support other sand. When you step on the plate, it activates the tnt and all the sand falls, but no envionmental damage because of the water.

I was trying to make an autocannon, like have sand automatically fall into the cannon barrel.
<- ladder
Destroy the sand, and place it back when you go down. Use that or gravel... but gravel sometimes get you flint, and you can't put that back in place.
