So i was just wondering how you all get to bedrock level for your mines. I'm bored of the way i usually do it which is making a 3x3 hole with and extra one block cleared on the side for a ladder/water ladder:

Hey i run a server called -IDon'tHaveEnoughUsersSoI'llAdvertiseInTheWrongPlaceforMaxAttentionCraft-

I think he means the method you guys use to travel up and down your mineshafts.
My method is actually rather interesting. I choose to go up by jumping and stacking a massive column of gravel under me, and go down by digging it up. It may be a bit slower, but it allows me to do a small amount of flint grinding every time I enter my mine.
Personally, I want to get to the bottom as fast as possible, and then branch mine on levels 12 and 16. So I usually do a 1x2 hole. The smallest I can safely dig down with, and not be directly digging straight down. Using ladders on one wall, and torches on the other. I will usually eventually put much glass on the wall opposite the ladders, so I can go down safely without fear of falling. With my exits from the ladder being off to the left or right.
If I'm more in the mood for something bigger or more grand, I'll do a large spiral staircase or something. But I got annoyed with traveling top to bottom (or vice versa) in them.
I used to do a 5x5 hole with a staircase running around the outside. Nice, you find more stuff on the way down but it takes a long time. Of late I've been digging a 1x4 or 1x5 water ladder to get to bedrock, then expand from there.
I glare at the ground and it opens a yawning chasm before me. The only problem is that sometimes the bedrock sometimes moves out of my way as well, so I have to glare at the Void until it gets scared and becomes solid.

Manly blood is both highly acidic AND highly basic, but I'm glad to see you're paying attention.
I dig straight up... that's how badass I am. notch moves the bedrock into the sky for me. but really, I usually just do a shaft like you, or if i am limited on materials, a 2x2 spiral staircase.

A sort of spiral staircase, usually. Each step is three blocks tall. Dig out the two blocks in front of you, then the one below them, step into that hole, turn left, repeat.

I do it all the time...in the Nether.
To get to down to bedrock I use the same method as the OP.
The Sun rises in the North! Now these points of data make a beautiful line...
as in
dig a block
then dig the ones in front until it goes a level below you
and then repeat the second step.
ooooh yah!
With my fists.
