I bet this has already been done but i felt it would be an interesting thought for some people to see anyway.
So a friend and i were wondering how long it would take to run across the world of minecraft from spawn point to spawn point. (If the game wraps around) so lets do some math! *Note sarcasm*
So the real world is roughly 40,075.16 Km around (because each block is a meter cubed im just going to stay in metric)
so that means 40,075,160 meters
So with minecraft being 8 times as large it is 320,601,280 meters
testing the run speed of the character on flat ground gives around 4.5-5 meters/sec
Lets just assume on the high end and go with 5
so dividing our distance by our speed gives us 64,120,256. this is how many seconds it would take for the travel.
figuring out how many seconds there are in a day (60*60*24) gives us 86,400 seconds/day
so then 64,120,256 divided by 86,400 gives us 742.13 days.
So if you wanted to run from your spawn point in one direction only and hopefully wrap around and come back to your spawn point, it would take 742.13 days. This of course is not including swimming, jumping, or going around cliffs, pits, or dangers. Of course also if you are killed, well you just end up right back at start.
If you feel like checking the math, go right ahead. i kept getting different numbers from forgetting one step or another. Still 2 years to get around. Sounds like fun
First, if its already been covered, you should use the search function and use those threads. Second, the minecraft world isnt round and if you attempted to go around it you would reach a point where the game couldnt handle all of the memory and would start to crash before you even hit the 8 times the surface area of the earth mark. However some people have used hacks to move their character to the edge of the world and theres video of it on youtube, I suggest you look it up.

Is that Earth days or Minecraft days?
with how he calculated it, its normal earth days, so yes it would take you longer than two years of your life, playing continuously, to do this even if it was possible.

Mining with your sis might be fun, but in the future use a pickaxe. It's more efficient and humane that way.

Actually if you get far enough you'll get to weird terrain generation glitches caused by floating point errors and it'll eventually kill your frame rate.
